  1. Our beautiful, loving, incorrigible Oscar crossed the bridge yesterday at 8:30am. He was loved and hugged and spoilt in his last days but was beginning to suffer from the effect of his spreading disease. We decided we would not let him suffer and the pain meds were not holding him any longer. He died with dignity in our arms. He was a Labrador loved by many, the destroyer of balls, shedder of fur, and champion licker. Run free beautiful boy xxxxx
  2. There are some seriously gorgous and cute dogs in here!! Great photos too
  3. Who says I'm dumb Mum?? I wiped my feet on the mat My serious, pose for the camera tilt....
  4. Hi! oscar and I would like to come too if we may, we are northsiders too. I saw someone mention Sweeney Reserve - went for a walk there last week and it has been completely 'renovated' by the flooding of the Pine River and was a complete mess. The fenced dog park was completely gone and most of the trees had been ripped out and carried away. There were dead fish on the bikeway but it was nothing compared to the devestation of Wiley Park - all gone! The idea of having it at a 'venue' sounds great - I would not mind paying ;)
  5. The photos are making me laugh out loud ;) Here are some of Oscar: Hmmmmm tummy rubs....I loooooove tummy rubs.... I am only too eager to please...what would you like me to do now?? Snowing? Ris it???
  6. Nothing like some garden renos to cheer you up
  7. Hi everyone..Oscar is much much better this morning. His eyes are almost normal - just look a bit red around the edges still, but the swelling has gone down and the diarrhoea has stopped :D Yes they do like to scare us and I wish they wouldn't!!
  8. Oscar is much better thank goodness. The swelling has alsmost gone down, he still has diarrhoea, but he is much more like himself. ;)
  9. Taken 3 hours after cortisone and antihistamine injections.
  10. We have a bit of bush and a creek across the road. I have done a huge critter hunt of the house since we got back from the vets - can't find anything. Oscar is sound asleep. Vet said it would take about 2 days for the swelling to go down. Hope his swelling goes down real quick the poor little thing, must be uncomfy ! He looks like he has been punched in both eyes and he has a fat face.

  12. Back from vets - they think he has been bitten by something. We went through everything else - no change in diet, no new plants, no new cleaning products or sprays etc - came up with nothing. He has had antihistamine and cortisol injections and is now asleep. He looks terrible. I have to take him back if he vomits again or gets worse. Good new - his chest is clear so the kennel cough he came home with last week is better. That's two Monday mornings in a row we have been to the vet - the Vet asked if I had a crush on him
  13. I think it must be he has now started scratching himself madly and whimpering... Going now will let you know what it is later.
  14. Something is very wrong with Oscar (6 month old Labrador) this morning. I have rung the emergency vet and they said to wait for our normal vet to open (Oscar is not unconcious or bleeding!) -Both of his eyes are red and the area around them is red and swollen, he had vomitted, weed and pooed in the family room overnight (has not pooed or weed inside in over 5months) and he is a bit subdued. He is rubbing his eyes and pushing up against furniture and me to rub them. Last night he seemed to drink more than usual. I have checked him over and cannot find any obvious bites or lumps but he looks terrible and I am very worried..... His right eye was infected last week and we have put ointment in it 4 times a day until Friday - when the ointment ran out. Yesterday his eyes looked fine - lovely and clear. ETA he has one dose of his antibiotics (for his Kennel cough) to take. These were prescribed last Monday.
  15. If I try to make a drink with ice in it and NOT give Oscar a cube he will sit and hit my hand/arm with his head until he gets one, open the freezer door and he comes barrelling up from whatever he has been doing to get some ice - only ever 1 cube, but boy he just LOVES it.
  16. :p Our dog sat perfectly still for the vet while she put in the ointment. When we tried it at home it was a completely different matter... The vet did not show me, but thank you the explanations are great - he is a little bit big for me to hold his collar and eye lid with one hand (he is 28kgs big and I am little!!) but along the same lines I have held him from behind, had a bit of hit and miss with the first couple but getting better slowly - he loves the treat (typical lab) so if he can see the treat on the table he tends to focus on that and sit still :p
  17. Just put the first lot in while he was snoozing under my chair - didn't really care - just looked at me as if to say What ARE you doing?? had his treat and has gone back to sleep - must be careful not to squeeze the tube too hard though or with 4 doses a day we could be finished it all by tomorrow night!!
  18. Thanks Mrs TS - also posted in TCL and Health forums - the infection is in the eye - will definitely use the cotton bud - would probably cause less damage if he moves suddenly too. Not having a very good run of things ATM!!
  19. Hi - Oscar, our 6 month old Lab puppy, has been diagnosed with an eye infection (came home from a week in the kennel with kennel cough and the eye infection). Can anyone help with tips on hou to apply the ointment 4 times a day without stressing Oscar out (and me!). I don't want to hurt or stress him and end up having to chase him to put the ointment in. Any tips before I start would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance fro any suggestions.
  20. Hi - Oscar, our 6 month old Lab puppy, has been prescribed eye ointment 4 times daily to treat an eye infection (came home from a week in the kennel with kennel cough and the eye infections) - is there a way to apply this without causing stress to him (and to me!) so that we don't end up having to chase him to do it? I would like some tips before I try so that we can make this as simple as possible - if that IS possible Thanks in advance for any advice.
  21. Tried time out last night - very distressing for all - cried and clawed at the laundry door for the whole time - have tried spraying the rocks with a mixture of citronella and water this morning (as suggested by Lab Lady on the Crazy Labrador forum) - so far he has walked past it twice, sniffed - looked disgustedly at me - and walked on. Will see how long it lasts. Masons Mum - we use ice cubes as training rewards sometimes - he LOVES them!
