  1. thanks Cosmolo, the 2 clubs where i live have wait lists, but ill book private classes! Thanks again!
  2. Hi all, i have a mini dachshie who is 1 year old. I have noticed he is getting increasingly noisy when people come over. He will bark when the doorbell rings, then bark at the people for a good 20seconds before he settles down. Still, even then he doesn't want to be patted etc. He kind of sneaks up for a sniff, usually wagging his tail, but if the person bends down to pat him he'll run away barking! I have tried getting him to sit and be quiet before i open the door, but this hasn't been working because he doesn't want the door open anyway, he wants the people to leave! Other than that, I have put him in the laundry before I open the door but he will just bark in there. He had heaps of happy socialisation as a pup, and loves certain people but hates others. i have also tried treats, but he doesn't like taking them from strangers. He barks at the fence too when he hears people wallk past, im not sure how to teach him the command 'quiet'? Any help on his barking would be greatly appreciated! We are on the waitlist for obedience club, should get in 1st term 2011 and he did puppy school..
  3. great CW EW, that's what I will do then! thanks so much for your help
  4. thanks all I gave them a good clean yesterday before i put the first dose in, CW EW did you do it just before the first dose, or also during the course?
  5. Hey Everyone! My boy has a case of gunky ears, no mites etc but the vet thought it might be worthwhile using ear drops for 8 days, twice a day to help clear it all up. I forgot to ask her whether I can clean them during the 8 days he is having the drops put in? I just use cotton wool with malacetic otic. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  6. My boy got half a DR B BARF pattie last night, this morning just a bowl of nutro puppy kibble (with his drooling 8 week old cocker spaniel cousin watching his every move!). Tonight he will get his BARF again with 3 chicken necks
  7. I alternate between this and pro-plan salmon for my boy for breakfast. He seems to like it, he has also tried royal canin dachshund and didn't eat it and ziwi peak but it is too hard for me to have to order online. The nutro I would say is his favourite, he eats the puppy chicken and rice, and looks the picture of health so I would say it's working for him! I have fed him the wet food on occasion too if I have forgotten to de-frost his nightly BARF meal, he likes those too!
  8. ReadySetGo i really dont understand the point of your posts in this thread; You havent really answered any of the questions i have asked.. I do appreciate you taking the time to post in here, and i know your position is roo tendons occasionally and bones daily, so thanks for that! Eta thanks for the reply stormie.. No go with kramar either ill go with the dried natural chews as you suggested
  9. thanks again all.. I might give him one chopped up as skruffy n flea suggested, but i didnt realise they had been recalled previously! I have given him beef tendon before but it shredded all over the place haha but this sort of thing might be my best option. I just dont like the thought of bones in the house, germs etc. The little fella isnt very consistent with chewing on a matt and i dont like having to mop the floors after he's finished. He even drops chicken necks then licks the floor afterwards! Like i said, these are only a rare treat, in fact ive had him nearly 8 months and today was his 2nd greenie. I just would like to have this sort of thing in the house if the occasion arises! Would a pigs ear be an appropriate alternative? Im guessing it wont do much for his teeth, but the bones take care of that really anyway
  10. Thanks everyone for the replies. As I had written in my first post, I give my dog bones pretty much daily (yes, that includes chicken necks/wings/frames and lamb necks etc), I was looking for something he can have on occasion inside the house (I feed bones outside with my supervision so he doesn't mess up the house). Everythings Shiny, I will definitely try the kramar brand next time! Thanks for the recc!
  11. i feed my mini dachshund greenies every now and then, usually after a bath (to clean his teeth haha!). He is just under 4kgs. I gave him the regular size today ($5 one) and he couldnt finish it, too much for him. They are available 2 sizes smaller, but these are quite small and look like they could cause choking. Should i go with the smaller size or stick with regular? I supervise when he chews them! Otherwise, are there other brands which are better for cleaning teeth? He gets RMBs almost daily but i like something he can chew inside every now and then Thanks!

  13. hmmm this all seems so familiar, I believe we are talking about my nephew I'll bring the Alf over and let him at the food, show the big fella how it's done
  14. hmm I guess I am part of the minority, but I don't want to see dogs in eating establishments. I love my boy and we will go to a cafe and sit al fresco while I have a coffee, but I think it's a bit OTT having them inside while you eat a meal. They are dogs after all, imagine if they did their business on the floor in a cafe! And I have to eat in there!
  15. black & tan, smooth haired mini dachshund in Geelong if needed spunkiest little man ever!
