FOR GODS SAKE!!! ENOUGH ALREADY about Mark Aldridge,, Moorook and RSPCA....For the final time this case is before the COURTS...Everyone who feels they have a right to check over someone else business and books etc...will get their answers and transparency then..decided by experts not arm-chair social media experts like many of us seem to be..we all have an opinion and often its emotional due to our shared love of animals but if we really love the animals lets just SHUT UP!!! The TAX DEPT and God knows whoever else will sort issues out..In the mean time how about we all not potentially cause any further damage to either side of the case which can potentially jeopodise these animals further. If you have donated Thousands of $$$$$$ to any shelter that is or isnt registered blah blah blah you have a right to be concerned but if you havent just let the case run its course without interferance...Just remember..LOLA has had clear inspections..If all this negativity influences the case in any way what do you think will happen to all the Moorook animals that currently have a home, shelter food, water...Will they all be in our homes being looked after 24/7????? Dont think so!!!!

Im not commenting any further now about any of this,, its negative and taking up too much of my time..I trust Mark Lola and the courts to sort this out

Shame that Mark then has already taken his case to the media and TT - and I would certainly not trust Mark to sort out anything, including his washing

  2. yep, can confess to having been involved looking through a viewfinder at my shot, and taking a couple of steps backwards to get just the perfect framing - and falling off a walkway - fortunately onto some bushes - and yes, also copped the - is the camera OK, before anyone asked how I was. Wrenched my knee as I was falling in my bodies fleeting attempt to keep me upright, but it was OK in a couple of days. And yes, the camera was OK.

  3. not to mention the fact that Moorook have admitted they free range their cats waiting for adoption, as they consider it cruel to have them in cages - no it is cruel to let them roam like that and not be able to be monitored, handled or fed properly, far more easy for cats to be bullies to each other under these conditions, and an injured cat escape notice, plus spread disease through the colony, and the reality is I am sure the real reason the cats are kept that way is not at all for their welfare but rather that meant they did not have to change litter trays

  4. oh, we are going to look at the cattery now are we - thought they were perfectly content with the cats free ranging - perhaps someone (maybe even the independent vet?), has suggested that free ranging cats you want to adopt is not the most brilliant of ideas, and they should actually be contained so they can be fed, treated, monitored for fleas etc, and more easily caught for starters.........

  5. latest update from Mark

Finally back from Moorook, I love the shelter, but must admit, never expected to hear on live there lol, the RSPCA may have headed out of town in that direction, but they never arrived, I have now been up and back around 25 times and stayed up there 4 times, the personal cost is starting to become staggering, but no animals have been taken since the first visit, which is my primary concern. I am falling in love with a few dogs there, but cant have more than our 2, and our Sanctuary babies. Met the local MP this arvo, who has said he will back us up, local council works are only a days hard work away, as for the RSPCA, seems they are still a power unto themselves, we have no orders from them, no animals have any issues, so the only fear is if an animal is dumped there for comes from a local pound that is sick, because Lola would never say No to helping an animal in need, but if court helping one, again she could be charged. We do need to also look harder at the Cattery, so the next working bee, we will do some upgrades. Yesterday we had an independent vet come through and pass every animal just in case, all passed with flying colours. So next weekend I hope we can get a few volunteers up there to finalise the whole shelter. I arrived back there this morning at 7.00am and Lola had been up working since 5.00am, and needs a break, so lets get the place sweet and let her have some time off hey

  6. love this little gem - and sure that events like yesterday will only build the determination of the network to air it - NOT

Annie Greenaway why does it keep being put off?

Mark Aldridge Not getting put off I don't think, just building the story.

  7. This just in, from Marks page

I have had a call. From the federal police, I am still at Moorook, they have asked that complains and screen shot be taken of a certain page and be sent. To ther on line complaints site, this is very serious indeed, they are already investigating the issue in detail, so if you have been targeted or offended, please also lodge a complaint
  8. Interesting point they have just made about how the cats are treated there too

Lynda Hayes I really love your cause and passion, and the care and love you give to the animals you have in your care. But what do you do with the multitude of cats and kittens you get lumbered with? There must be so many, they breed like crazy. They can't all be re-homed, sadly.
Moorook Animal Shelter What Mark means, is that once they are desexed (when old and well enough) and fully vaccinated, the shelter is their home until they are fortunate enough to find a new home. Whilst at the shelter, many are given 'free range' to roam the shelter. Many don't end up getting adopted so to keep them in a cage would be cruel.
Lynda Hayes Ok, great that they are desexed, but giving them free range, may give them the chance to kill the local wild life, I know that cats love to roam, and they don't like to be caged, but, I'm a big fan of wildlife.
Moorook Animal Shelter Lynda, we appreciate that concern but the cats actually help us a great deal in keeping down the vermin which also effects Australia's native wildlife :)

Being a country shelter we can get more than our fair share of mice, which can lead to more than our fair share of snakes, with the cats they eat the mice (as well as the cat food, little gutsos lol!) which keeps the chance of snakes down.

As for the native wildlife (at least birds), I myself can attest that the cats don't really seem interested in the birds- I have gone to the shelter and witnessed birds eating the cat biscuits and none of the cats gave them a second look LOL. It was a bit of an odd sight :)

The cats have it pretty good at the shelter- Batman who was a cat adopted out a few years ago actually ran away from his adopted house and turned up at the shelter only a few days later ready to be fed! (He is currently in a home and hasn't run away again!)

Given the fences they had posted on their website shown in the pictures, they are not going to stop any cats scaling them at all, so sounds like they have cats just roaming at will, plus obviously free feeding from the food supplies - sounds more and more like total lack of control on anything there.

  9. Moorook page back up, and this just on it

The Moorook Animal Shelter has always operated as a not for profit organisation, without charity status. We have never asked for donations, and we complied with rules as we were aware of them. Changes have come into effect from the 1st of March 2013.

Recently we were one of the rescue groups reported to Consumer Affairs based on a complaint that we were seeking donations. Although Moorook itself didn’t seek donations, the efforts of others to do so in our name, has inadvertently made things messy and resulted in confusion.

Charity status became voluntary from December 2012. We will obtain charity status in the future but at the moment we have other things to concentrate on. Such as completing council requirements, legal dealings with the RSPCA, clearing Lola’s good name and the main thing that seems to be forgotten in this is our goal of rehoming dogs and cats.

Whilst there are some detractors who’s motives are questionable and derogatory, we will not waver from what we value and pride ourselves on, helping abandoned companion animals to find loving homes.

So in order to meet requirements and remain as transparent as we have always been we are now operating as a business. We will still run at a loss, as we always do, but we will use the business registration and ABN that Lola has always had.

This really doesn’t change things much at all for us. We still can’t ask for donations or use the term fundraise, but we can accept them if offered. We can request sponsorship, support, and use words such as proceeds to or gifted. We can use collection tins with correct wording on them and we are able to sell items gifted to, us or that we have procured.

Our shop is legal. We are not registered for GST, as this is not required unless you reach an income of $75,000, and we will never reach this.

I hope this clarifies things for everyone. Please, to those people who are PM’ing me wanting to know if they’ll be prosecuted for offering donations, the answer is no. We cannot seek them – you offered.

Businesses who support us will not be disadvantaged by this either. They are legally allowed to offer sponsorship, and we are legally allowed to ask. This is expensed and deductible in their tax returns. Individuals are still not able to claim the support they provide us as tax deductible. This hasn’t changed.

I hope from here we can move on with awareness for no-kill shelters and support for the animals needing homes.

I have made bandannas like the ones below – all are different. Another organisation offers theirs for sale for $10. We’ll let you decide how much you’d like to offer for them – I didn’t make them for financial gain but for awareness. The white ones have the Moorook Animal Shelter logo on them, and the purple ones are just patterned with no logo on them, out of respect for the other no-kill rescue groups that will be at the Awareness Day. They are hand painted, not professionally screen printed, but we hope your animals will look great in them. They are available in Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large

Hmmmm, seems an awful lot of dodging and weaving going on
  10. Always interesting when groups like this that scream how they are all about the welfare of the animals and what is best for them, consider letting them suffer like this is better than being PTS through compassion. I used to say that the best gift when we are an animal owner is being able to do for our pets what we can;t do for people we care about, ie end their suffering and torment, however it would seem that to people like this, that choice should be taken away from us as well, and we will no longer be able to end even our pets own suffering but need to see them go on until last gasp.

Think the comments about how if she closes, that the Riverland will be swimming in dogs are largely typical hysterical overreaction - if that were the case, then surely she should have been singlehandedly rehoming thousands of animals, not the small figures claimed. Certainly appears that the animals were certainly just being stockpiled there and warehoused, and only the raid succeeded in finally getting some of these dogs out of there into homes, not because she is doing such a great job of finding new homes all the time. Can;t see anything on the Moorook page - has it been blocked to anyone not a friend, or have they just blocked me - can;t see any posts from them on either of my facebook accounts on their page

  11. Noticed this on Marks page

The final Council inspection was held today, of the 20 odd orders we have passed 95%, with flying colours, the issues left dont make a lot of sense to most of us, the sections we have not complied relate to a pallet of rubbish and a messy rear shed that has not been used for years, in any event we will get this sorted, working bee will be on the 26th, light work only and some making areas pretty including the new playground area and the new office, final planning applications will now be under way and cover the state of the Art quarantine area....nearly there

  12. the code as it is will wipe out all cat breeding within 1 generation - all kittens now have to have c5 vaccination before sale. Any cats must then be tested to see if they have FeIV / FIV before being allowed to be bred from - if they test positive they cannot be used for breeding. Any kitten you have bred yourself and has been vaccinated will of course test positive, as this is what happens when they have been vaccinated - the test shows antibody reaction. So not only will you not be able to breed with your own kittens, you will not be able to buy one from another breeder either. And that is leaving aside the potentially lethal effects of c5 vaccination in the first place. Given that pounds ans shelters, in their own code which was reviewed in 2011, only have to have c3 vaccination, and catteries are meant to be set up so as to allow absolutely no chance of contact with "outside" cats, the chance of our breeding cats even contracting these conditions is nil. And that is also leaving aside that before a kitten can be sold, it needs to be vet checked to ensure it has no internal parasites or other things - most of which will require swab testing, or blood drawn from the jugular, and about $800 per kitten to get all the results. Given I only sell my kittens for $650, most of which covers their food, litter, vet work etc, and leaves precious little if any left over, it means I will be losing over $800 for each and every one.

  13. given they want Vic breeders to not only have health management plans, but breeding plan and retirement plans for each and every animal in our care, would think that if we have to do it, then shelters certainly should, since the chances that animals coming into their care are going to have medical or age related issues is far greater than a breeder. Just sayin

And had no idea that it was simply OK to just ask other volunteers, or indeed just the vet nurse, about treatment of animals, and do so with their approval, why that is far better than paying a pesky vet, who afterall, has only had more years of training and experience, for their advice, when in Vic, we are going to have to get our vets approval for each and every thing our animals eat, play with, and fornicate with, and indeed for how long they can mate too (or even if they should be mated, and not just retired out in accordance with our vet approved retirement plan).
