  1. FD26 ~ I just won a crate off ebay for $36, its a 76cm one, black powder coated with a divider (I probably wont use this but its nice to have just in case). It folds into a suitcase so it can be stored when not in use. I won it last night and it was posted today.

    to all the newbies....

    Bluefairy

That was lucky! The problem I'm having is shipping, it's so expensive to the NT! I can't find a 36" crate under $150 including shipping, but the DD one is $95 all up.

  2. Morning All,

We are going to see our lil man "Boss" on the weekend, can't wait to see how much he has grown. Will be sure to take loads of pics to share with you all. Ordered his bed the other night and some more toys. Though with the amount of toys that Lola our BB has our house is going to be filling with dog toys. Though her's are all pink.

    :D

I can't wait to have dog toys around again! At the moment I'm just inundated with kitty toys. We keep them in a box in the loungeroom, but Melon (our Siamese) must know this because she loves taking them all out for the sake of it. She'll scatter then and then look up at me  Our last dog had just as much fun playing with their toys as he did his own lol.

  3. This has always intrigued me

What happens to the animals when they are all released and we have enjoyment from a distance until we need the land for all the crops we will need to plant in order to feed us and clothe us is this just something no one thinks about till it hits us and we all go "ohhh yeah.... we never thought about that"

It's a bit ridiculous anyway. As if humandkind doesn't manipulate all animals - even the wild ones. I don't really see much difference. I think lots of PETA's 'views' are simply a way to be as radical as they can be, as some don't tie in together very well!

  4. I'll actually be glad if they can hasten some changes to live exporting.

But I don't tend to hate PETA so much. I was vegan and supported them some 10 years ago. These days I wouldn't attatch myself to them in any way or form, but still reckon they do SOME good.

There's a general concensus in sociology that it takes radical as well as conservative activism to bring about changes, so I see this in a similar light.

(again, I stress, I don't mean to say I agree with PETA as a whole!!) I'm just hopeful that it will do some good.

Sorry if I've got the wrong user-name, but aren't you eagerly awaiting the arrival of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy?

If this much of loonies get their way your puppy would be killed to save it from a life of suffering because it is is "pit bull".

These people are not interested in what is best and most humane for animals and anyone who believes otherwise is deluding themselves

No, you're right - I'm waiting for my staffy pup.

But once again, I didn't say I agree with PETA (I most definitely don't). I don't believe they will ever "get their way" because it's so far left field that they won't ever get enough support for their radical views. HOWEVER, I believe they do serve a purpose in 'holding the radical line' - which is an important catalyst for change (of the good sort).

Much the same as I don't agree with a lot of things greenpeace do, but respect that they need to exist, and that their existence serves a purpose.

  5. I just leave them beand stay well away, not much I can do about them as they feed on the frogs. And i like the frogs around.

Don't tell me that! I'm petrified of snakes and we get lots of frogs here. I haven't seen a snake yet though...but now you'll have me worried! Yesterday I was sitting out back (in my suburban yard) and a hawk came flying down and took off with a frog!

  6. I'm not under the impression that all breeders keep a pup from every litter they have? Am I mistaken to think you could become over run with dogs if this were the case? I know she already has three..

Ethical breeders of a grossly overbred & exploited breed such as Staffords will rarely breed a litter without the intention of keeping a puppy or without, at the very least, someone else in the show/performance world wanting the pick - which is quite different criteria to the pick a pet buyer such as yourself would choose.

Sometimes mother nature has a good laugh and none of the pups are suitable for whatever arena the litter was bred for, but the intention is there, and not many I know will make this decision when the pups are so young, even when the sexes don't line up with what the breeder was actually looking for.

    Hi Sandra,

I get what you're saying. The thing is I don't know what she did with the pups before I came along - when I say I got the pick I didn't actually see the whole litter when making a decision. She sent through the pictures of 4 pups she thought may be suitable and we discussed it. I'm quite happy with this breeder and I'm also fairly sure she is a responsible one.

  7. I'm glad you got it sorted, but didn't you say the 1st pic she sent was a pup of a different colour?

Yes. She was black/brindle & doesn't have any white on her. Hard to see any differences with them all together inside though lol.

  8. Here's ours...from the council website:

    Costs

Entire dog - $75.00 per year

    De-sexed dog - $20.00 per year

Licence for more than 2 (two) dogs $105.00 (Plus registration fees for each dog) per year

Wowsers! I pay $18 per desexed dog for 3 years registration. There is no ongoing fee for having the extra dog license. So the cost for me when I get my 3rd dog will only be $54 every 3 years.

I was thinking it was huge, but I've never had a dog in Australia outside the NT so had no comparison! We're moving in a year or two though, so maybe we'll move somewhere where it's not so bad? lol...never know. What's adelaide's costs like, anyone? lol

  9. I don't think she's retaining any from this litter

    :D

    :D

And the point of breeding the litter was..................

I'm not under the impression that all breeders keep a pup from every litter they have? Am I mistaken to think you could become over run with dogs if this were the case? I know she already has three..

  10. It's already here :D

Same... we've had limits for a long time. I just got an exemption from my council.

Disgusting that puppy farmers are given the :D and genuine breeders are going to be hindered.

I'm pretty sure we have limits here as well, but you can apply for an exemption. It goes for dogs, and for cats. And the fee for exemption is pretty steep..

    The app fee was $55.

    Here's ours...from the council website:

    Costs

Entire dog - $75.00 per year

    De-sexed dog - $20.00 per year

Licence for more than 2 (two) dogs $105.00 (Plus registration fees for each dog) per year

Entire cat - $80.00 per year

    De-sexed cat - $5.00 per year

Licence for more than 2 (two) cats $20.00 (Plus registration fees for each cat) per year

The cat one's not so bad, actually..I think that's quite reasonable. Well, if you get past the fact that they have to be registered at 3 months and it's not advisable to desex before 6 in a lot of cases lol, which they have no provision for.

  11. Glad you got it sorted.

This is precisely why I don't send "individual" pupdates to people. I send all photos of all puppies to everybody on a generic type of email for at least the first few weeks, sometimes longer because quite often, I don't know until the last couple of weeks which puppies are going to which person anyway. I always get to choose first and I don't do that until they're up on their feet and I can see what they've got!

It must get confusing! Looking at her litter I wouldn't have a clue which was ours if he didn't have the white foot showing lol. We have another picture of the litter and it took us about 15 minutes to figure out which one he was lol.

I don't think she's retaining any from this litter, we got in first and had the pick. :D

  12.

I was also thinking with five week old puppies she may be very busy!

what sort of puppy are you getting?

Yes, turns out that way! And I think she's having frustrating problems with her internet as well.

A staffy. Here he is  Front right with the white paw! He had a big white stripe down his face a few weeks ago, but as you can see it's fading now. The second photo is when he was 2 weeks old

  13. oops-

    have you actually phoned?

They may be out, or busy...

I do hope you get your choice!

Not yet, I'll wait a little while longer! I hope so too lol, as we're not at all prepared to take on a female. She was a cutie though, why must people constantly tempt me?

I could write a book about this puppy search I reckon, it's been very eventful!
