  1. They're pretty addictive, them leggy, long-nosed hounds! They sure are :D thank you to grizabella for this pic of my Bosco and Nicky Oh the cute, it's too much!
  2. I'd love a Rottweiler as my next dog. Also in the future: More Whippets Borzoi Italian Greyhound Afghan Hound Greyhound Saluki Not likely to ever happen but still love: Leonberger Newfoundland I'm completely in love with sighthounds now after owning my first whippet.
  3. I have a Westie mix and a multi cat house hold, she's excellent with them but as others have mentioned it's the thrill of the chase that seems to get them. My girl will sleep with the cats, walk around with them but if they run she can't help but chase, not her fault, just instincts :) I have multiple baby gates around the house so cats can get some peace from the dogs in dog free rooms if they wish.
  4. Elke (whippet) tells me when she's cold, she tries to get under blankets or comes in to snuggle up to me, I pick up her jumper and ask if she wants it on and if she puts her head through the head hole then on it goes. She's much happier when she's coated! Generally speaking if I'm feeling the cold or her ears are cold and or she's shivering and in a tight ball then it's time for the jumpers to come out. I leave them on her during the day if I know it's going to be cold, she appreciates the warmth.
  5. How exciting, Rottie babies  Hope everything goes really well.
  6. When I occasionally use head halters for different dogs I use the Black Dog infin8 head halter. It connects at the back of the head. http://www.blackdog.net.au/dog-head-halters/infin8-dog-head-collar
  7. Thanks guys! Elke appreciates all your suggestions
  8. Was just wondering if any sighthound people could suggest where I can buy a nice warm fleecy but not overly expensive whippet coat? I've looked at patterns but I'm not crafty in the slightest and I can tell it will end up a disaster  Thanks in advance :)
  9. Mine are all getting new plush beds and some soft toys to kill (thank you Fuzzyard and T&S warehouse sales ) They will also get some treats and a trip to the beach in the morning Christmas day.
  10. She's not a pedigree but she's pretty on par with my friends pedigree whippets in the size department. Both her parents were pure whippets, her dad on the bigger side. She has a little more growing to do but I would say she wouldn't get much bigger. I think the photos make her look a little bigger and lankier than she is in the flesh
  11. I'm super lucky and grateful that I've ended up with a girl like her. She's so easy to live with. She comes most places with me and will just sleep next to me while I'm doing stuff. I've definitely fallen in love with the breed. You're two girls sounded beautiful too As for the signature, I can't remember how to do it
  12. Thought I would pop in and update on the little terror princess  10 months old now, gone so quickly! She's been a dream to train. I'm very lucky that she has excellent recall, have firmly trained this into her from day one and it's paid off. Tested it on a live prey chase the other day at the park when a rabbit ran out in front of her from the bushes and took off across the field, proud of her for listening to my commands and overriding her natural instincts of the chase. I love her to bits and can't imagine life without her. Anyway heres some random photos from her adventures recently..
  13. I have one of these, had it for a number of years and is still going strong, very well made :) Otherwise Kmart sell pot plant holders that would fit stainless steel bowls.
  14. I've always stayed with my animals and always will, as painful as it is to watch, I owe it to them to be there for them. Since I was 16 I have also been there to accompany any shelter animals that for whatever reason need to cross the bridge, it's not their fault they end up in the shelter system, they deserve to feel those last moments of love too. Thankfully we are very low kill so it doesn't happen very often but I will always be there for them too. Sadly the whole dumping old/sick dogs in shelters/pounds is a very common thing these days
  15. Maverick has purple martingale collar & lead. Willow has green collar & lead but her harness has cupcakes on it  Elke has pink martingale collar & lead but her harness is purple & white. That's about as far as it goes, their bowls, coats ect don't match the colour coding and the dogs don't wear collars at home so it's purely for convience grabbing leads and collars when heading out the door with them.
  16. I avoid enclosed dog parks unless they're empty. Much prefer the beach and open off leash areas, my whippet & westie x have reliable recall but my big doofus mutt not so much so I'm just selective where I let him off lead. We generally go out in the middle of the day or when its cold and rainy, my dogs are great with other dogs but I don't really like being constantly accosted by other off lead dogs, especially when I'm now trying to keep an eye on three of my own and just want a leisurely stroll
  17. I taught Lady Long Legs how to wave.. now she likes to show off whenever possible  And just some random cuteness!
  18. Thanks all, I'm pretty smitten with her Will definitely endeavour to make it to a Whippet meet up Kirislin!
  19. Introducing Elke Elke and her brother were only meant to pass through my life briefly as I got them placed in rescue. Apparently the universe had other plans. There was something special out that little Whippet baby with big green eyes. Her brother went to rescue and has found an awesome home and Elke who I took home to foster (yeah we all knew how that would go..) has landed her self a permanent place in my life with my pack. I'd never had sight hounds before but always admired them from a far, I did a lot of research to make sure that I would be able to provide for her needs. She fits in perfectly with Maverick & Willow and has learnt pretty quickly about the cats and to respect them. She's a dream to train and loves getting out and about. With her brother at 11 weeks old.. Now at 6 months old.. I couldn't imagine life without this crazy little character.
  20. My crazy pack <3 They're happier than the look
  21. I have an almost 7 year old border collie x, 3.5 year old westie & a 6 month old whippet. All sleep thru the night - 10pm to 5.30am on work days and 10pm til up to 10am on days off. Whippet puppy occasionally asks to go to the toilet if I get up early in the morning to pee or get a drink on my days off before going back to bed but not often. Westie and Whippet sleep in my room on my bed or their beds on the floor and Maverick sleeps wherever he wants, mainly the lounge room. Last let out to toilet on the way to bed which is around 10pm and have water up until then.
