  2. My two Shar Pei girls are due for their vaccinations this month and I am feeling a little conflicted about having them redone. Both are older girls (9 & 10 years old)...They are healthy but are getting old for Shar Pei... One has Shar Pei Fever, thyroid problems and has had a few lumps removed…The other suffers with mild skin problems and has also had a few lumps removed. I previously had the three year vaccination done for them. Lately I have been reading numerous warnings about over vaccinating pets / older pets and I am worried that I might affect their health either way. I tend to follow a more natural care plan and would love helpful some advice on what I should do. Most vets recommend it but I often wonder if this is the best advice to follow as they make a lot of money by vaccinating. Please help as I’d like to be able to make a firm educated decision.
  3. Hi all, Lucky Little Paws Rescue urgently need some foster carers for our beautiful rescued Cats & Kittens. If you have experience with timid/shy cats then we would love to hear from you. We have some shy kittens & cats that need some extra love and care to help them become friendlier. We simply don't have the time to get around to giving them all the attention they need to grow into loving domesticated cats! We are based in Adelaide and need foster carers all around Adelaide. Please if you or anyone you know of can help then let us know. Thank you!! We also have some beautiful Cats & Kittens that are ready for adoption (some even love dogs!!) Contact Stef from Lucky Little Paws Rescue on 0406 396 776 or visit our facebook page - Lucky Little Paws Rescue

  5. No..I personally wouldnt Just as I wouldnt buy from a breeder I didnt like
  6. I think these pictures are actually people who work for PetRescue...They must just be using them as examples.
  7. Maybe she was worried that living in a gay household might turn her puppy gay?..Bahaha...Stupid woman... I have a lot of gay friends with pets, and lets just say if I die I hope to come back as one of their dogs!! Congrats on your beautiful new puppy...Im sure he will have the best of homes with you xx
  8. I love wearing black but Shar Pei slobber seems to highlight my clothes. My car windows are also covered in slobber..I saw a great bumper sticker saying 'no that's not slobber on my window, it my dogs nose art'
  9. I'd never feed cooked bones to my pets but they thrive on raw bones. My vet couldn't believe how good my two dogs teeth were for their age. I follow barf & swear by it!
  10. I've been harping on about feeding pets a natural diet for years. People place too must trust into these commercial dog food companies. I'd rather know 100% what my pets are eating. An excellent book to read for those who are interested in a more natural diet is called 'Give your dog a bone' by Dr Billinghurst. Excellent read & life changing!!
  11. Three Cheers. having worked for many years with dogs as guides and therapy dogs ..and having put a big chunk of my life into careful assessment/training/placement ....so that hopefully the public would not be in any way inconvenienced by a dog's inappropriate behaviour ...and that dogs went to those who they could best benefit... I am just a bit 'tetchy' about pet dogs being labelled as 'therapy' dogs at the drop of a hat , it seems. I too have been involved with training and educating Guide Dog and Therapy dog's and 100% agree with you. The very strict process that these dogs go thro is so strict that some dogs that have been specifically bred & trained for 15months don't make it. It would be a massive concern if random dogs were allowed the same privileges as these professionally trained dogs. Thank god Australia has such strict rules in place to prevent this from happening!!
  12. We have our tickets. Got VIP & get to meet Cesar after the show!! Sitting a few rows from the front!! Can't wait..so excited. Adelaide missed out last time!!
  13. My zip broke on mine too. I purchased a cheap pet seat cover from cheap as chips to place under it. It's a really cheap version of The Backseat Buddy, without the zip. Then I placed my backseat buddy over the top. Works great and gives that extra protection without the cost of replacing it.
  14. When you allude to mysterious adverts that no one else mentioned and then make claims to have written something (and then back-pedal and mention taking information from the original article), yes, it gets rather confusing ;) So, you didn't write the article from the OP, thanks for clearing that up. Also the words posting and wrote are two very different things. I never said I wrote the orginal article, I said that I posted it and added some info that was also important.
  15. Think it was you that got confused.... Willow's orginal topic post was that Gumtree had placed this advert on their site, when in fact it wasnt them and it was me who placed and paid for it. I was concerned that the post looked as tho Gumtree had actually made some sort of moral stance against rehoming entire dogs. Especially as it was the opposite and they were quick to remove the advert. I edited my last post because I had made a spelling error?? I fail to see why you are making such an issue of it. Being in rescue you would think you'd be happy, instead you are wasting mine and others time being petty and rather pathetic.
  16. The paid advert that was put on gumtree (see the original link on this discussion topic re: advert placed on gumtree, this is the full advert that I placed) was a paid advert that I placed. I posted an educational article about de-sexing and rehoming dogs. I got some of the information from the original article from 'Fully-Aware' and then added some other important info that was sourced via some other rescue websites etc. I knew that the 'average person' may not know some of this info or even think to look some of these great informative sites up, so thought Id pay for an advert on gumtree under their 'pets section' in hope that it would educate people & help stop so many entire dogs being given away or advertised. Gumtree is an overseas website that write their own rules & regulations (although I wish I was able to re-write some of their pet regs for them) Wow Hardy's Angel..I didn't think it would be so hard to understand?? Hope this makes it easier for you to understand..Not sure how I could make it any easier?? Gumtree didnt place their own advert under the pets classifieds section, the advert was paid for, placed and contents was re-written & edited by me. I placed it exactly as you would if you were advertising a pet but instead it was this article. I titled it 'Please Read Before Re-homing Your Pet' and used some pictures from puppy mills to grab peoples attention. I paid $10.00 to place it on Gumtree, as I wanted it to appear constantly at the top of the listings to gain more exposure.
  17. I posted the article and added some other stats & info that I thought might be helpful for people to know while I had their attention. Added a few extra rescue links etc..
  18. Interesting fact tho: the advert was up for 2 days on Adelaide gumtree. Had over 2000 hits and during the two days not 1 dog was advertised on there that wasn't desexed!!! Also gumtree hasn't refunded my money..lol
  19. Gumtree never placed this advert, I did! I paid $10.00 to list it & thought what's $10.00 if it could educate some people who clearly have no idea. I got many emails from people who were really pleased about the advert being place but also got some hate mail. Gumtree removed the advert and labelled it offensive to others. I am in the middle of writing a response to them but I hardly think it will do much. I always try to contact people on there that are giving away or selling undesexed adult dogs & send them this info. It has managed to help a few dogs so far. I'm going to tell gumtree that I find their rules re:listing pets offensive & very wrong. Was really hoping this advert would help but of course it's been stopped by people who clearly don't care about the long term damage of over breeding.
  20. I'm so sorry for your loss. Poisoning any animal is terrible. I really hope that it wasn't done on purpose by some nasty person. I remember when someone covered the largest dog park in Adelaide with snail bait. A few dogs died & it took ages for the park to be re-opened. I always refill and clean the dog water bowls at the parks - always worried that it wouldn't take much for someone to spike it. Don't blame yourself - try to focus on the good times.
  21. I'm currently completing my degree in natural medicine for animals. Am a qualified small animal massage therapist & pet nutrionist Previously worked for Guide Dogs SA as a puppy training assistant. Also was one half of Shar Pei Rescue Australia but taking a rest from dog rescue for a few months. I own two amazing Shar Pei girls & am currently hand raising a litter of kittens (their mother was killed when they were only 1 week old & are now 4 weeks old)
  22. I have had some made for my Shar pei. They are more like long jumpers with roll necks. I make them out of fleece. If you give me your measurements & don't mind waiting 1 month I would be happy to make her one (just ask you pay for postage & material)
  23. Do her dogs get out a lot? This doesn't sound right??? My neighbors undexed male dog gets out every week...he gets taken to the pound so regularly that he has his own shelter Id disc. It would be great if the council de-sexed dogs before returning them (except people who are legit registered breeders) this would help to solve two major problems... 1) backyard breeding more cross breeds & unwanted dogs 2) people would be more diligent in insuring their dogs didn't escape.
