  1. My understanding is you would have had to have had communicated with us previously if you have received a newsletter email(but obviously without knowing who you are, I can’t speculate any further than that). The Twitter alerts are generated by Twitter (not by us) and so I think you can just unsubscribe generally (and you’ll be prevented from receiving any further Twitter based emails, regardless of which account they relate to).
  2. We are located in south-east Qld (Brisbane for the most part), more than happy to answer any questions you might have either via PM or publicly :) No one should have received an unsolicited email from us, my sincere apologies if that has happened. We have been in the process of setting up a website, which is for the most part being done externally, so I am not sure if that is the reason. In any event, this will be addressed and my apologies again. We certainly have no affiliation with NARGA either - just to clear that up.
  3. Given dingos (and hybrids) are prohibited as pets in Queensland, you might want to reconsider the ‘dingo’ reference in your gumtree listing for him. I would also recommend desexing him prior to rehoming.
  4. Interestingly the prospective adopter states her local ranger is happy to provide written confirmation that our dog, based on the photos he has viewed of her, would not be classified as a restricted breed. He is apparently also happy to state in writing, a classification as a restricted breed would require assessment by 3 separate individials, and would be based on temperament. But my understanding is that the legislation uniformly applies to the entire State? That’s not to suggest that will sway our decision at all.
  5. Thank you Aphra. I have no connection with the Lost Dogs’ Home. LDH happens to be my initials. But I appreciate it might create confusion so should perhaps I should change my account name :)
  6. Thank you all very much for your replies and advice. We certainly aren't prepared to put our dog at risk, nor do we want to impose that sort of burden on prospective owners. How very sad the system appears to be. Thank you all again.
  7. We operate a rescue in south-east Qld and have received an application for one of our dogs. The home on offer appears excellent, and is in Victoria. We are uncertain as to the dog’s exact breeding. Fortunately we have photos of both parents, but again would only be guessing as to their breed makeup. Certainly they are larger breeds, potentially with mastiff/staffy/amstaff in the mix. But I can’t be certain. Obviously we want to rehome our dogs responsibly and don’t want to put the dog or prospective owners at any risk. If we were to arrange DNA testing, would that be sufficient? I appreciate I am largely ignorant of the exact requirements of BSL and would appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance.
  8. There are a few rescues here in Queensland who adopt animals out with a ‘desexing voucher’. I am not sure exactly what that entails but I can’t imagine it is enforceable. I am aware of someone who adopted a staffy x puppy from rescue here on the basis that the dog would be desexed at the rescue’s cost at a later age. She attempted to contact the rescue on numerous occasions to follow through with this and had no response. Finally she arranged and paid for the procedure herself when the dog was 8 months old. A friend of hers who adopted a staffy at the same time from the same rescue has simply decided he wants to leave his dog entire.
  9. Sorry PS, I was not at all intending to erode the value of what you were saying. My frustration was more guessing the source of where you would have obtained your information, and knowing you would not have been given a fair, objective assessment from that source. Rescue in Queensland has expanded considerably in the last few years I guess, and consequently individuals involved become familiar with eachother over time, and clashes are inevitable. I would hope that 3R might be judged on how they operate from here. They are new, with people relatively new to rescue, but I am assuming they are well-intentioned. If they don’t operate properly or ethically – then they should be judged appropriately. On the converse PS, I suspect had you asked a number of other individuals involved in rescue in Qld their view on your source, the reply would perhaps have been equally scathing.
  10. I can assure you that you were not provided with an unbiased, objective viewpoint.
  11. We are having the same issues. Enquiries are now almost non-existent, and the feedback from members of the public is that the site is almost impossible to use. Sadly with very few of our dogs now being adopted we are limited in the new ones we can take on. We have emailed PR direct approx. 2 weeks ago with some queries and never heard back.
  12. Just an update - the breeder isn't in a position to take 'Jack' back at this stage, so we are looking now at other options. Sally, I understand, has a place for him - if that ends up being the most feasible option (would just need to work out transport logistics). Thank you again to everyone.
  13. I have been able to trace this fellow's breeder through his microchip details. I have left a message for them to get back to me to discuss whether they want him back - that of course will be our priority. If not, then we will look at alternative rehoming options for him. We don't profess to have particular expertise in the breed so are grateful that if the need arises, there are breed specific rescue options for him. Thank you again for all the helpful suggestions and advice, it is very much appreciated.
  14. Thank you all for your replies. I spoke with one breeder this afternoon - got the impression it might be hard to track down who bred him. When he arrives on Tuesday we will have him scanned for a chip and see perhaps if the breeder is still noted as a secondary contact. I also called and left a message for Sally earlier this afternoon. Hopefully we can sort something out either way. We are more than happy to get his vet work done, but our preference would be that he is in care/his re-homing is overseen by someone who knows the breed well.
  15. Thank you so much for the suggestions. We would certainly liked to have found his breeder as a first option, I just wasn't sure how to go about that as we have no details of where he came from or his owners. He was rescued from a fairly remote area in central Qld but I am not sure if that is where he came from originally. I will see how I go with breeders and will contact Sally also. Thank you again. Trifecta I have emailed you a photo also :)
  16. We are a relatively new all-breed rescue based in south-east Qld and have rescued a 12 month purebred who was surrendered to a regional Qld pound and was due for euthanasia. By all accounts he is a lovely mannered and natured boy who is in great condition. The local ranger was so taken with him that he posted photos around the town in the hope he could find him a home rather than put him to sleep. We will of course assist him and place him in care but I thought if there was anyone who did breed-specific rescue, they might be a better option for him. Thank you in advance. PS I can't post photos here but am happy to email them to anyone wanting to see him.
  17. Exactly. And while stating the order has been to reduce the number of dogs from 60 to 20, it has not been uncommon for over 100 dogs to be on the property. And these dogs are cared for by 2 people. The dog who has been the subject of much of the debate (who was rehomed in Brisbane) arrived with a myriad of health problems – vet records attest to this. Soon after arriving she mauled and nearly killed the adopter’s own dog. The defence was that she had only been in RCR’s care a week before being rehomed and so they were not responsible for her health or other issues – when I understand their own vet records confirm she had been in RCR’s care for over 3 months. I don’t propose to favour one side or the other – but there are always two sides.
  18. Hi, I’m from Best Friends Rescue. I think we have had one dog released to us towards the end of last year but we haven’t been involved in any formal capacity to date. If you could PM me further details, we’d be very keen to discuss extending the relationship further :) Thank you.
  19. This is the cheapest site I've found for Glyde powder, and postage always seems to be quite reasonable as well. http://www.valuevet.com.au/catalog/product...?products_id=98
  20. Thank-you for the advice. I’ll be taking her tonight as soon as I get home from work. I should have been clearer – it’s only noticeable when she is eating or drinking so my first thought was issues with her teeth. This morning she took a bone quite happily from me though before I left for work and commenced chewing away. I will be getting her checked out asap. Thanks so much again.
  21. Can anyone shed any light on what the issue might be. Last night and this morning my 12 year old BC seems to be having issues with one side of her face/mouth in particular. Eating and drinking is a very slow process and it seems to cause her some difficulties (although she is taking in both food and water). She is also salivating excessively, particularly when trying to eat and drink, and some of the water seems to spill back out as though she is having trouble swallowing it all. She seems a bit quieter than usual but other than that, she is not showing other signs of being unwell, no vomiting, no difficulty breathing etc. The affected side of her face also seems slightly swollen. I’ll be taking her to the vet tonight or in the morning if she’s no better, but would appreciate any advice in the meantime. Thank-you.
  22. This from another website: "We need a regular weekly run of dogs of all shapes, ages and sizes from XXX NSW to Brisbane to enable us to assist with re-homing homeless dogs. On a weekly basis there will be up to 10 dogs needing transport and cages will also need to be sourced (by XXX) to transport these dogs safely. Ideally you will need a van of some description that will fit a number of cages in the back. I am open to ideas / suggestions / how you think you might be able to help. Please contact me as we need all the support we can to help these guys." This, I understand, is before any sort of vetting at all and on arrival in Brisbane the dogs go straight into unsuspecting foster homes. In response to their second parvo case, I posted on fb a question about quarantine (which was later deleted by the rescue). The response I had initially was 'yes the puppy was quarantined, I had her separate from my big dogs the day she arrived' (the day before the outing at the park). That seemed to be the extent of their knowledge of quarantine...
  23. saw that post but it is not a username I recognise as having posted to the group previously, so best to call council or RSPCA to confirm all of that info(though i think someone mentioned the council putting signs up earlier in this dol thread?). yep that was me that mentioned the council signs i know at least one person who reported the matter to the council (and was told about signs being erected) and the rspca. i also know the post about the other positive cases is true... but going forward i do hope that serious lessons are learned from all of this. it is very scary to contemplate the repercussions if not.
  24. I understand that three dogs in attendance at the outing have now become ill and tested positive to parvo. Relevant entities have been notified.
  25. Alas, my singular post on the FB page for the rescue group was also promptly deleted and I was banned from the site. I didn't point fingers, or call anyone names, just questioned the wisdom in allowing an 8 week old puppy newly arrived from Sydney to attend a 'puppy day out' which was held in a public off leash area. Essentially, unless your comments are supportive of the rescue, you are wiped. The council has been notified and I am told signs have now been placed at this particular off leash park warning other attendees of the risk. I cringe though now thinking about all those other puppies (none of which I bet have undergone full vaccination schedules) that were at that park with the puppy in question, who later that afternoon tested positive to parvo. I understand complaints have also been made to the RSPCA.
