  1. Ohhhhh Sammie, what a terrible time you've had! Poor Asti being so sick, and then making the very tough decision to return Fysher Big hugs to you and Fysher and gentle hugs for Miss Asti. Tomorrow will be hard, no doubt about it, but you are making a very brave decision that will be best for Fysher in the longrun.
  2. Awww! I love Dr Mindy I think Roo and Mindy kind of look the same build- Roo is not that much heavier than Mindy, and she still hasn't got a thick "otter tail" (probably never will ), but Roo's head isn't as long as Mindy's. It's so cool that Mindy can go to Uni with you. My older sister did Vet Science at Sydney too (she's not a vet anymore though), and I remember when she was at Camden- she didn't have a dog to take with her to uni then though! :D I shudder to think about what would happen if Ruby came to school with me! :D Although, did you read that thread about the school in NZ that changed it's rules so that a teacher's dog could come to school? Interesting. I'm not ready for another dog yet (not for a looong while yet! :D ), but I would be very tempted to get a rescue Labbie from Labradog Rescue. My friend Simone recently adopted a mama dog from there (who surprised her rescuers with babies not long after coming to Labradog Lodge), and I think she may have adopted another Lab in the last couple of weeks too, judging by the blog! ;)
  3. Oooh! New puppies!!!! Cangratulations Dandybrush and Sammie on your new additions. They're both gorgeous- what kind of doglet is Willow, Dandybrush? And Fysher is cute and all, but Sammie, Asti is still my favourite Frenchie! One dog and one cat is my limit right now. Maybe when Roo is a bit older...but I'm not in a hurry to go through puppyhood again! Maybe an older doglet....but which breed? Labradors are my absolute favourite of course, but since being on here, I love the look of Aussies too (still to meet one in real life though). Then of course there are Frenchies and Bostons...so cute!
  4. What does reverse sneezing sound like? Koala, Roo definitely will not let fame go to her head- you saw the photos; she could care less Her hoomen on the other hand...well, lets just say I'll have a very captive audience in my class tomorrow morning, so they'll hear all about it whether they want to or not! :D I don't think Roo looks too thin, but I was a bit taken aback by what the lady said about Labradors. Of course we're all very protective of our doglets and their breed, which is why I understand completely about you feeling a bit unhappy about what your brother said. I guess you just have to brush it aside and put it down to him just not being a dog person (for obvious reasons), but it still stings. I love how Elbie and Hoover snuggle up together Mr Koala is such a sweetie for tucking them in No point tucking Roo in- she rolls around in her sleep too much! Last night I checked on her before I turned out the light and she was laying on her back fast asleep She's asleep at my feet right now and was just making little suckling noises- do your dogs still do that? I know Hoover and Elbie will do well in whatever they do- they are both so smart!
  5. Hmmm, that's interesting. Roo hasn't really had much to do with really little kids, apart from yesterday when she met half the population of town! But, I had her Sporn harness on and it made such a HUGE difference. It's actually the only time I've had it on Ruby "in public", the only other times being at dog school, but the one she wore then was a bit small for her anyway and she didn't like it. I wasn't going to take Ruby to the show without it on though- she would have been dreadful! I walk her around my neighbourhood on a flat collar and lead, but LLW is not one of our strengths and when you add all the new sight, sounds and smells of the show....well, you can imagine how it would have turned out And I know what you mean about the sniffing- Roo is especially bad around power poles Damn boy dogs!
  6. Hi Aussie! Good to see you in here Roo had lots of compliments yesterday on how shiny she is. Must be her fancy Labrador food and sardines If it's okay with you, I'd be interested to hear how you and Mindy go with Steve. You've put so much time and effort into training Mindy, and she has always sounded like such a good puppy, that I'm surprised to hear she has any real issues. Roo met some disabled people yesterday and she was so good with them- really gentle and calm. Magical Dog Trainer Lady told me a couple of months ago that Roo would make a good Delta dog (MDTL is really into that too). It's something I'm considering, especially after yesterday, but not right now.
  7. *Ahem* Cutest Dog in Show Voila! 3rd in Waggiest Tail and 3rd in Best Trick. Swag includes 4 bags of food, 3 tennis ball toys and a $10 voucher to the local bakery She was so good- and for that, I really must thank the makers of the Sporn Harness. You are truly geniuses ;) Before we went to the show I took Roo to the vet to check out her itchiness. She was SO good throughout the consultation- especially when he- gross bit coming up- checked her anal glands and then later when he trimmed her claws. He couldn't find any irritation though but he gave her a shot of cortisone anyway. I noticed her scratching a little while ago though, but not as much as before. She's fast asleep now- she's had a very big day! Will have to wait and see what happens with the itching. She's on Comfortis, so it shouldn't be fleas, but then it's a bad time for fleas, so who knows? I had a lady whose daughter I taught ask me today what breed Ruby was. When I said Labrador, she sounded very surprised. "Really? But she's so thin! I've only ever seen them fat!" :D
  8. I really think I should post Ruby down to you, Koala, so you can teach her lots of cool tricks! Seeing as this is technically a photo thread, here are some photos. Taken last Saturday night- Ruby fell asleep with a toy in her mouth This is what I saw when I looked out the back window the other morning... Ruby is too much of a princess to sit on wet grass (Oh the humanity!), so I usually put out a cardboard box for her to destroy/sit on. I was getting ready to pack my lunch on Monday morning when I looked out the window and saw that Miss Roo was cold, and had dragged out one of her blankets to lay on as well! And look! An Easter rabbit! Roo!
  9. Of ocurse we missed you! Glad you and Mr KA had a fab holiday, and that Kuma had a great holiday too. Lots happened while you were away- come visit us on Facebook (If you haven't already! )
  10. G does not look like a happy camper! Glad you're home, Wizzle. Tell WW to stay put awhile longer yet!
  11. I agree! Of course, we are somewhat biased I agree with those that have stated that the "Labradoodle" cannot become "purebred" when there is so much variation in their coat, height, temprement, etc. I have only interacted with one for a long period of time, and he is a gangly galoot, for lack of a better term. At least 2 years old (maybe a bit older), and seemingly no sense- my 10 months old Labrador has better manners. However, in saying that, he has had little to no training AFAIK either. As I am sure others have mentioned already, the "Labradoodle" was a failed attempt at a hypoallergenic Guide Dog- now (imo), people have just been sucked into the DD phenomenom. Personally, I would rather have my Labrador who may shed, but that I can brush easily, than a "Labradoodle" who needs to be groomed regularly.
  12. Oh yes. Ruby used to trot down to the toilet, pick one up, and trot back to the loungeroom with her "prize". Oh dear. She hasn't done it for a week or so though.
  13. Hi Kobi's Daisy We've all been there with puppy problems- Koala just is more brave when it comes to posting Please come back and visit us. DOL can be a bit daunting to new members. Rest assured, we're all very nice in our cosy corner though
  14. Hey Wizzle, I just looked at your sig and realised Miss G is one tomorrow!
  15. I'm not sure about my dog, but I know my cat sits in the window and waits for me to come home from about 4:30pm onwards. My neighbour across the road found it very amusing when I first moved in!
  16. Poor Ava And poor you with the cleaning up and lack of sleep! Hope the chicken and rice settled her tummy. Roo does not seem to be a fan of rice (or maybe it's just the way I cook it! ), so when she is unwell I give her mashed pumpkin, which she loves, and BBQ chicken. Kyojin looks very regal in those pics, minxy Great videos of Echo, Kylie. Ruby has a Buster Cube too, but it's been a bit neglected lately
  17. at the holes. Ruby started a little hole yesterday in what is the only dry spot in her yard- thankfully she didn't work on it today! I am so over this weather! You'd think we were living in a monsoon area- steamy mornings, then it clouds over and pours rain after lunch! Ruby of course decided that she couldn't possibly sit on the wet grass, so dragged her sheet and blanket out which of course got soaking wet! I just pulled them out of the washing machine to put them in the dryer- the sheet has just about torn in two! :D Ah well. It already had a small tear in it anyway which is why she was given it in the first place :p Ruby gave her boyfriend another present today- her favourite toy Cow. She gave him Cow yesterday! This afternoon after she had finished her neck bone, she got Cow out of her kennel and after running around with it for awhile, gave to him, and he took it away! Notice he doesn't ever give Ruby a present! :p Cow is now in the dryer after being washed. I'm not sure how Cow has lasted this long- she is the only toy that Ruby has had since she was a baby puppy that is still intact! Hi KA! Glad to hear you're having a great time
  18. at Raven's photo attempts :D The Furminator is great- I got half a bag of hair out of Ruby on Saturday! I used it on Jasper this morning and got heaps out too. If anyone on here hasn't got one- I think you should get yourself to Petbarn and buy one while they're on special :D
  19. It must be wuv, twu wuv! Yes, except he doesn't give them back!
  20. Awwwwwwww! Look at that face! He's gorgeous Fen! Enjoy the sleepy puppy days while you can My black monster has been giving the GSD next door her toys under the fence (through the tunnel of love) Crazy doglet.
  21. Ruby had a playdate with the GSD next door tonight. It's the first one they've had in ages. She's just about asleep now, but I took her out for a toilet break a little while ago, and something caught her eye outside that she did not approve of. She let out a big booming woof that startled me! I forget that Ruby has a voice Do you lucky Canberrans have a long weekend? :D Not fair! I haven't even had a normal weekend! Stupid post-grad uni course of stupidness Sorry kids I teach- your teacher is going to be pretty grumpy this week.
