  1. LOL my yard always has toys and crap in it LOL i have 3 kids and a puppy. So i have given up with cleaning the toys :) we tend to do i now and again :)

thank you all for the nice comments as well. He is very cleaver and loves working.

he is 6 months old now and has started to hit his teenage hood but im still very lucky he is not too bad.

I really want to take him to the local dog club and train for comps but unfortantly my hubby works away makeing extreamlly difficult to do so.

  2. i have only meet ones treated like babies and not dogs and they where nasty evil agressive dogs. and worse if they where cross malitise.

there was not many if any that i would say where nice dogs. buy like i said they where not treat like dogs more like humans

  3. my boy is an outside dog why.... cause he wants to be.

i tried and tired to make him an inside dog but he is not he loves being out side he is less noisy out there then in. he comes in for a bit then he nicks back off out side.

thats him and i dont mind one bit. i get the best of both worlds. mind you he picks when he wants to spend time with us LOL.

  4. i must say sammies have a way of sneaking into your heart plus they are sooooo dam cute as a pup.

my sis in law gets what she calls ''visitation rights lol" she has Tsar when im away and now she thinks im nuts as i called her more for the dog then when they have the kids

Tsar has his moment lol i say moment as his teenage rebelion lasted a few weeks if that  his naughty thing is he eats the kids toys (i say if they are in the yard they are fair game in this house)

ill have to get some new pics of him but i think i have scored so far with an awsome pup.

  5. first my heart and thoughts are with QLD and the people in w.a with the fire.

but today, i grabed the local paper and a pet shop that open and was selling puppies and kittens had a direction change and now only sells.....

    rescue dogs and cats

i think this is an awsome step in the right direction so please if anyone is i rockingham area lets support horse and pet barn.

i dont know much details as i only read it quickly (babys who would have them lol)

but i wanted to share ;)

  6. what a lovely story.

my pup has been going to the dog park when i was away. apprently it as going well til a german shep was there and he was not a good play dog. he hurt a greyhound and then decided to target my dog (the owners of the other dog where lucky it was not me and it was my brother).

apprently he took a nip at my boy so he hid and a lovely bull terrier ended up putting himself between the dog and mine. my bother had to keep pushing it away as well as it just keept coming back.

took a few people having a go at the german shep owners before they took there dog out.

but that bull terrier was trying to protect tsar and is deffantly worth his weight in gold

  7. this is rocko bogan city LOL they need to be rude to get the bogans to listern
    :laugh::laugh:

i was hoping someone who lives down here picked that up. do you remember that new article saying that rockingham is the bogan capital of w.a

(mind you after going to the shopping centre of late i can somewhat agree with it. the christmas crazeys are deffantly in full force) ;)

  8. there is 3 beaches in the rockingham council that is dogs allowed so they are not 20 mins away. more like 10. there is the one in safety bay one is port kenndy and there is one near the grain terminal. the dogs are not allowed on the horse bit which is the other side of the terminal

i did not get upset at the signs they could have been worse like people with dogs beep off :)

this is rocko bogan city LOL they need to be rude to get the bogans to listern :)

the ones in safety bay where up months ago as i seen them when i took my pup to that beach. as i was driving into every car park til i found the correct dog beach section. the dog beach is not near the ramp its further along.

i also seen them at the rock beach when i went in nov again driving into every carpark til i got to the right car park.

good luck with rocko council i think you wont get much help or responce from them

  9. hey,

i have a samoyed (spitz breed also) I too would say they can be a little more yappy. my boy is quiet at home but can be very vocal while we walk and he see's another dog.

Also dont be 100% set they will be great with kids. I am learning this while my boy loves the kids he has growled at them.

if you want a super loyal, obediant dog dont get a spitz breed. they seem to have a inderpendant streak and are super super smart. they like to do there own thing and sometimes it does not fit into your thing LOL

um yes grooming. unless you love to groom or are prepared to make time at least every few weeks. dont get one.

  10. hey peresphone when i say she said he will always have it in him I dont mean he will do it and i have no hope of fixing it. More that he is prone to doing it so to keep aware of him that he may do this again.

sorry with 3 kids i just quickly type and dont always get out what i mean.

we hope with the training we will do and as the kids get older and the pack changes it will stop. As he wont see them so much as equals. by the time she had left he was already not garding the pigs ear we where using and was listerning and to the 8 year old to leave the treat . so i do see positives

he is a smart cookie this one and is proberly too smart hence this issue LOL.

the big key for the kids is to get him to listern to sit with them which he main does SO if they see him comeing and looking for there food they make him sit so he is not at them for it.

thats why the key is to teach him to leave it and to give. so he or the kids are not put in this position where there is a stand off about food.

I will also join her her training down the rd.

does that make more sence lol. Im not good with explaining at the best of times.

  11. Hey all

i had the lady out today (it was today or not to next week so i was luckey to get today)

She saw him in action which was good and bad Lol

She said like many of you alot will have to come down to management etc but i do have a few things the kids have to ask for a sit if he comes at them if they are eating, which both are able to do. if he does not listern they are to turn away from him. she does not want them confronting him as such as it could cause a problem as he could see it as a challenge.

we are to teach him 'give'and 'leave it'

my oldest did these with him and got him to listern.

I am also to have him on lead while they are eating in the same area and keep up with the leave it etc so he will learn.

so we have a plan of attack and like she said it will be always in him but it may get better as the kids get older as he will eventually see them as 2 legged and not 4, but will be something to always be mindful of.

  12. hey perephone no no defffantly not a francise :) . its a trainer who works down the rd owns a spiz breed and knows them well.

she has alot of experince and i emailed her and her responce was excellent and I was really happy with it.

i also googled her and found alot of recommendations on other dog site for her. so i hope she is good.

  13. Hey all and thank you for all your help.

I agree having 3 kids and removing all food can be very hard and is. i have had a few times yesterday where my 4 year old would grab a yogurt etc and start eating the dog in the house. but i am trying he gets put away or the kids go into a room with the door shut so he can not get to them.

i should have someone early next week coming out to talk to me and deal with this issue inc when the kids are home so thats great.

i must say my kids do not torment him they know that they would loose there heads if they did. and they are just kids that would not even think to do it anyways.

but the baby LOL and the puppy now they are totally different :) they will both sit at my feet and play together. the puppy will get a toy lay straight infront of the baby then the baby will get the toy off the dog, and chuck it then the dog will get it and the process goes again LOL.

or if the baby wants to play he will go to the dog and the above process happens. LOL

hopefully early next week ill have someone out :o

  14. thank you everyone. i have spoken to my hubby and ill get someone in to see what is going on.

he has been a wonderful dog so far this has only been issue.

i believe he respects me he will listern to me. he is really my dog.

and who ever said he sees the kids as litter mates i absoultly think this is the case. He loves the kids but they are his equals or lower then his equals.

Ill make sure all food is gone before he is allowed in the house.

the rest i do anyway as i hate dogs hovering while i or the kids eat.

  15. i picked this breed as i thought they where very family dogs and now this :)

ALL breeds are dogs first. He is behaving like a DOG. Get it out of your head that because he is a certain breed he isn't a dog first and foremost.

I agree totally with Sandra and the others who have said this.

It drives me insane when people come over to me at shows and say oh its a Samoyed, they are fantastic with children.

No, wrong, they can be fantastic with children, it's not a natural instinct in the dog to see a child and think, hey, I have to be nice to that becuase I'm a Samoyed.....

Honnestly it's like Labs and people assuming the come pre trained. ;)

Sorry if that sounded harsh (I'm not trying to bite your head of or anything), I've been dealing with some very weird puppy buyers lately who have said the same thing and it's wearing me a little thin :)

I agree with what Bundy's mum said about children having no food at all around him.

I can't remember how old he is, 5 months?

I think TOT would be great to start with, he sounds like he needs a very firm hand and I can tell you my Sammie's have also been resource garders,

Samoyeds are not soft dogs, they might look it but they are solid steel under it all.

What kind of training have tou been doing with him?

Hi i think i thought that as everything i read about sammies says that they love kids.

i am deffantly not soft on him. I have being doing the k9pro puppy distance course. tsar can sit, drop, stand, stay, wait. he also does the tot. he is very good with me just not the kids. but in saying that he has very litle repect for my hubby (he is not home 90% of the week)

after chrissy or maybe before he will he will be going to dog training down the rd. i was going to go to the local dog club but they do not start back to next year in feb.

She owns sibes and knows the whole spiz temp well so i think she will be a better choice.

  16. thank you everyone its nice to not get my head bitten off :)

I hate failing and i supose thats how i feel. Im going to get someone out to help me as well but im going to deffantly take on what has been said here also.

    thank you again.

i will let you all know how i get on with this and i do know he loves the kids as the carry on when he see's them tells me so

  17. i picked this breed as i thought they where very family dogs and now this ;)

ALL breeds are dogs first. He is behaving like a DOG. Get it out of your head that because he is a certain breed he isn't a dog first and foremost.

yes i know he is a dog he is not my first dog and this is really his only issue but this breed is supose to be kiddy lovers. so that is why my comment is said. its hard i dont expect a purfect dog.

thanks i will try with not letting the kids leave food (very hard Lol) but how to do i get him to repect them? if i say leave it and i did test it by leaveing food he just left it. but if the kids leave it he just takes it.

ahh dogs and kids who would have them :)

  18. this is a dangerous thing i feel

    yep.

    :) Not a good thing ...

Ok - a few things off the top of my head.

1: When kids have food dog is outside/crated/in another area.

2:when dog is fed- kids are nowhere around.

    3 start T O T asap. CLICK HERE

because there are kids involved, I would also suggest you get a GOOD trainer in to observe/advise .Someone here will know of someone with a good reputation . :)

    thank you.

the kids are deffantly no where near him when he eats i leave him in peace. he is good with me i have not have an issue with him. we do the TOT and he watches me like a hawk full eye contact until i let him eat. should i get the kids to do TOT with him as they could both do it?

its more say the kids leave in this case an apple and he thinks he can have it he will growl at them if they try to get it. and the choc they where not eating they had ripped it out of the advent calender and he came in and decided he could eat it. and when he got no was not happy.

oh should say he is away from the kids if they are eating too. as its a big pet hate of mine dogs hovering around while you eat.

i picked this breed as i thought they where very family dogs and now this ;)

  19. hey guys i have come to realize my pup is a resource garder.

i have herd him growl before at the baby if the baby went to grab anything off the pup (he was told off and the baby was removed as well)

now he is getting bigger i have noticed it a few times in the past few days.

he started to eat one of the kids apples and when the older child (she is 9) went to take it off of him he growled at her she got it anyway.

last night i really saw it with my own eyes ;) He went to eat some chocolate off the couch and when the 4 year old said no and moved it further away from his he growled at her and lifted his lip.

good or not i jump up and growled at him said no and chased him out the house.

I have always and im sorry to say until reading on this forum not to take food off dogs etc always done this and now i have not and have a this. :)

oh he does not do this to me and i did not think he would to the others mainly the 4 year old as she does training with him (its so cute to watch he sits and drops she uses the clicker and food)

also please bere in mind my 4 year old is extreamly smart sometimes too smart :)

is there anyway to stop this behavior or curb it as with kids this is a dangerous thing i feel.

im not sure if this helps but this dog is a hoover he is always looking for food to eat.
