  1. I am looking and thinking about importing from USA and was hoping to hear others experiences. What was good and what was bad, who did you use to transport and approximate costs. Would love to know as much as possible to try to predict any foreseeable issues etc.

    Thanks

  2. Well we have two bitches due to whelp a few days apart. Very mad I know but timing for us was too perfect and I want to go back to work full time next year plus I really really want something to show from each of these girls. Anyhow we have reached the 4 1/2 week and almost 5 week mark and one looks like a pud and the other is blowing out her ribs. Cuddling them both on the couch I truly feel blessed to have two lovely bitches in every way and cannot wait to share their love with the new owners of their babies. I am so happy am I mad?!! After 15+ years and 9 litters I am just as excited if not more than the first. I know so much more now but am still happy to learn.

  3. As a vet nurse I find the Hills pet food to be rather poor. It is overpriced and over sold IMO. During growth phase nutrients and nutrition are very important. Being lethargic is a big warning sign that something is wrong. I hope you can help educate the owner. Best of luck.

  4. Hi,

I have a puppy who has developed cherry eyes and was looking for thoughts and opinions on this and some possible Vets in Victoria who will do a good job? At some stage she will be sold to a pet home and the last thing I want is for them to have any issues further down the track. Thanks in advance

  5. So day 61 here and we are all systems go. Holly's temp dipped down at 10.30pm last night to 36.8 deg and this morning it is back to normal. We have had a night of some digging in the whelping box and a few groans and big stretches. She is choosing not to leave her whelping box and was quick to get back in it after toileting this morning. Sometime today we will have our smallest Dalmatian litter ever with a count of 4 on xray. Holly had been water loading and looked like a house but in the last week she stopped this and trimmed down quite a bit. I am secretly hoping for five but four healthy puppies is better than None.happydance2.gif

  6. I had a very traumatic first litter. Our bitch required an emergency c -section and when home back with the babies a few hours later she started to chew on the umbilical cords and chomped down on a few too hard. I rushed in and pulled her away but she had killed two babies by being so rough. I was advised to put a muzzle on her and let the other 12 puppies feed and then take her away for some rest and try again later. The repro vet believed she was still contracting and though she was giving birth to the puppies (still a little sedated from the c-section). I was terrified to leave her alone and once we removed the muzzle the next day she was a perfect mum. Much more settled and relaxed. I did not sleep for quite some time and did a lot of crying. Needless to say I de sexed her as I was too scared of a repeat EVEN THOUGH was told it was an accident and she did not know what she was doing.

My heart goes out to you but it does get easier and better.

  7. Good luck today Kirislin, looks line she is nearly ready!

I have a question, my Leonberger's behaviour is really amped up, she is more clingy, more exciteable, and more reactive than normal, she seems to have morphed into a super watchdog as well. Is this usual? Or do I just have a very, um, special girl?

I'd say that's pretty normal. You will need to be careful that she doesn't do herself or someone an injury if she's become more vigil. They can also injury pups if they fly out of the box to investigate.

My Dally girl who is usually quiet has even taken to barking at the vacuum cleaner. She has become super protective.

On another note her babies are bouncing around her belly with just under 2 weeks to go. CANT WAIT!!!!

  8. I came back from 2 days away and Anna had had a "gutz explosion" lol. Even allowing for the fact that it is her second litter in just over 12 months she is HUGE with 3 to 3 1/2 weeks still to go. Last time she only had 2. She already needs a toilet break in the middle of the night so God help us all over the next few weeks. The ultrasound said "at least 4" but I won't be surprised if we have 6 given how she looks. She looks physically like she did when she whelped last time.

looking good!!! Is the excitement growing? We are going to get an xray the week before Holly is due but I am still hoping the MAX will be 9 puppies but judging by her size at almost 6 weeks I may be praying for nothing.

  9. Try a different protein source, sometimes they might appear fussy but they might want more white or red meat depending on how they are feeling.

Thanks. Did not think of that. Kind of like cravings. It appears if I give her a dry biscuit early in the morning and leaving her breakfast to mid morning she seems to do better. The dry biscuit seems to have stopped her being sick for now. Fingers crossed it is all easy (lol) from here.
