  1. Hi I have a friend interested in trying the vets all natural product, can anyone tell me if there is anywhere around Templestowe in Melbourne that you can get these products instead of buying online? Thanks Jen
  2. I feed pet mince with the veggie portion off my dogs diet (its the only way'affordably) to get them all to eat their vegies. I have been through more butchers then I care to mention, Now I have finally found someone who is prepared to give me what I want. The main problem I found and yes my dogs occasionally scoured from it is that alot of butchers through in yesterdays manky rissoles etc I actually took quite a few bags back to butchers over the years because of this, most recently when I had specifically asked what went into his pet mince and he LIED to me, he almost wore the mince LOL . The mince I give now is purely minced chicken carcass'. And if this supplier mucks up he too will wear the mince! (Yes he has been warned as a number of people in my area have had the same problems as I have and have also started going to the same guy I go too so I gave him business!) Edited to add, I'm sorry but I would sooner see my dogs go hungry then give them dry food but this of course is personal opinion. My dogs IMHO have never looked better since I changed over to a BARF diet Jen
  3. Off to see my psyciatrist now Sorry but the term NILIF is sooooooooo True
  4. hehehe will have to try NILIF program on myself! LOL, NO jen you cannot have that chocolate until after you've done 100 sit ups hahaha(as if!) Nothing in my dogs lives is free, I paid for the lot! Sorry will run away and practise being good now. .................................................No sit girl you aint getting my croissant................................................... ................Bad Jenny go sit in your corner
  5. Have to agree, rescue remedy did nothing when I have used it. However I like Nervatona performance under stress formula (available at health foods shops) and vitamin B 5 tablets
  6. HI Collie Angel, To be honest I don't see a problem with clipping her off. When you take into consideration her advanced years and the fact that she dislikes being brushed is it really worth the stress on her to groom her. I would clip her, I have seen it done on a number of occasions (on pets that have been brought in with completely dishevelled coat) and the coat is no different once it grows back properly but does seem thick etc untill that time. As Belinda said, fleas can be a cause of hotspots but so can numerous other things, grass allergy or allergys to almost anything else for that matter can cause a hot spot. At 12 years old you would have to be extremely patient and persistent to teach this girl to lie still while being groomed but you will more then likely find that she will never enjoy the task. Make sure that if you do get her clipped that you stay on top of the brushing as her coat grows back, I would also recommend that you wait to clip her off until she is loosing her coat as it will make stripping her out a hell of a lot easier. JMHO Jenny Oh I have been involved in Rough Collies all my life, I just don't own 1 currently.
  7. How do I fatten up a lean "athletic" (cough) dog who insists on burning it all off?? Please dont suggest Satin Balls - she wouldnt have a bar of them I might try giving a morning feed if no other suggestions Chezz if you can fatten up Rosie i'll go heave, she meeds to mature is all, she is not underweight! Jen Just as a guide for you Chezz, Lily my 6 yr old girl weighs 20 kg and Cherry a 1 yr old female (both smooth) weighs in at 19kg
  8. Depending on how big the rough collie male is and how well boned he is I would suggest he should weigh about 25kg. feeling all his ribs and protruding hips is definately underweight. The Goldie weighing 50kg at that weight, bring on hip displasia and a very short life span! That is disgusting any owner who allows a dog to get that fat is neglectful, to much love can be as bad as not enough! JMO Jen
  9. My dogs visit the chiro regularly, we are lucky were I live that we have a vet who is also a trained Chiro and she is fabulous! The dogs I am currently showing tend to go every 6 mths unless they display signs of an injury. Cheers jenny
  10. OK previous post spelling and grmmer may not be up to par, for that I am sorry but I am tired and my fingers get away from me when on a subject I am passionate about. In the end, Just Love your fur babies! Jen
  11. Thank You for your point of view, we are each entitled to our own. However how many clinical studys have actually compared between a raw based diet and a commercil diet? None that i can think of nor find (yes I have searched). Commercial foods have only become popular in the last 50yrs before that scraps and raw was the only option. Before you say yes but canine life span was far reduced 50 yrs ago, this was also a time pre vaccination of pets and before a time when mineral and vitamins where heard of let alone vet visits if your dogs where un well, what ever argument you take there are no winners and no lossers at this time! Until clinical studys are undertaken no one can give a definative answer however I know that my dogs are far healthier on a raw diet then they ever where on commercial diets. My dogs go to the vets for Vaccinations and the occasional accident, this indicates to me that they are healthy. My friends aged bitch is almost 14yrs, she is as spritely as a dog far younger and has been fed raw for the past 10yrs, she was placed under a naturopaths care when the vets failed to help her skin condition, on raw foods her skin condition has cleared and looks like she could live forever! There may be no clinical studys supporting raw diets however the anecdotal evidence is there should you look hard enough. Until someone with large sums of money supports a clinical study comparing Commercial and the Barf/raw diet there will be NO evidence of the benefits/cons of Raw feeding. Thats it brain hurts now and sick of typing, the end of this tail is as gosssco57 says do what you think is right. My 2 bobs worth Jen Edited for some of my crap spellin, I apologise if i didn't get it all!
  12. Be at peace with your beautiful daddy 'Thomas' Miss Maggie Moo I will Miss you alot At peace now Jenny, the girls and the doggies
  13. Thanks Lisa for caring! Happy trialling Jenny
  14. BIG HUGS FOR CHEZZYR! A DAY OVER TWENTY ONE Gosh my eldest daughter is nearly 10! Put it this way, I won't see 30 again! Jenny
  15. OK for the dissection of the day, I should have stayed home in bed! LOL but went anyway. At the AM trial, heel work verging on embarrasing, Kaylas was in a heel what is heel mode Think I was talking a differnent language then she understood, missed her second sit and elbows didn't hit the ground for her drop ( this a problem have been having for sometime!) stand for exam, perfect score, stand stay lost 1 pt kay stood ahead of me. sit and drop stays no worries even when others broke. NQ score of 109. PM trial: Heel work slightly better but still crap, i had slightly relaxed but not much, had children with me who although where some distance away kayla heard them and said OH there they are I'm going that way! Again elbows didn't hit tyhe ground on her first drop and figure of 8 kayla descided i going tht way and being a right toad. stand for exam and stand stay, perfect score, dropped in the sit stay and was fine on the drop stay! NQ score of 80 Came home extremely disappointed in her, my coach was watching ringside scratching her head, Kayla's heel work is usually spot on! So back to the drawing board we go. Things against Kayla on the day where, a) my nerves, I handled really badly in the morning B) it was soooo cold in the morning b) due in season at any moment c) foot injury the day before however didn't present as lame on the day. D) me as a handler and having kids with me, she was always looking out for them which is normal! So what next! Training, training and more training and maybe we will do better next time . On the up side we came home with 2nd in the ring in the morning a nice ribbon and some dry food and 3rd in the ring in the PM trial again a nice ribbon and some dry food! Next time we go to trial I will be recruting someone with a video camera so I can see what a dickhead I look like ! Hello Katey did ya see that lovely person you are Back to training Cheers Jenny
  16. HI Wagsalot, The Dremel is a type of rotary tool, mine is actually a ryobi brand not the dremel brand which was just far too expensive for my needs. When doing black nails it takes lots of care, i like to do them in bright light and a little water(or spit ) on the nail can help you to see the quick. Take a little at a time. Here is a link that may help you with your nail trimmimng endevours! http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/ClientED/dog_nails.asp Jenny
  17. OMG Chezzyr, it is madam Kayla! Gosh when was that taken! Thanks for posting it Jenny
  18. HI Chezzyr, I admit I use a Dremel on all my girls( originally purchased cause I broke 3 lots of Doggy Nail clippers on the GSD) I LOVE it, the collies didn't like it much at first but i do their nails regularly and behaviour is improving just patience and lots of food required for bribery! In general any brand of nail clippers will do the job, if you are overly concerned about doing them, most vets will do them very cheaply (depending on behaviour) Personally I don't like the guillitine style but that is a personnel choice. Cheers Jenny Meant to say, to file, a fine flat 'bastard file' is best, the human ones tend to be too fine
  19. Thanks all, Chezzyr, don't be ridiculous, you put Rosie on that lead and you take her in! Training is Fun, hence I haven't trialled before, I enjoy training I think it helps build a bond with your dog, i'm just an anxious person, it has taken me almost 25 years to recover from anxiety in the conformation ring! You'll be fine Cheers Jenny
  20. Couple of beers sound good but then on the other hand i won't be able to shut up LOL bad score caused by exessive vocals, handler not dog Maybe rescue remedy would be better!
  21. OK have been training Kaylas butt off for ages now, she is working like a dream and we now have 3 sleeps till our first venture into the encouragement class! AHAHAHA I know she can do the exercises (if anything she is probably ready for Novice but i'm not!) I am almost praying she comes into season so we can't compete . How do other people overcome performance anxiety? I know that if i feel like this on Monday i will totally stuff up , have Kayla sitting for drops and drops for sits, Turn left instead of right about turn and OMG the list is endless. She is very tuned into me and reacts to every thing i do, if she stuffs up its because my body language was wrong am so nervous that i think i might vomit! HELP Jenny
  22. gotta love Rosie Posie dog she looks happy, hope you are adjusting to having a dog again! Jenny
