  1. Lovely to meet you both, Katdogs and T. Glad you finally got some Borzoi cuddles, aren't they just divine?!? I think Broker and Splash enjoyed giving the smooches to everyone as much as those on the receiving end. They were so well behaved all day ( and it was a looooong day!) :-) I'll be back there next Monday for General Specials to cheer on my breeder's Borzoi - I'm hoping I might have a chance to venture further afield than the dog pavilion and show bag hall lol. EFS & fat finger typos
  2. So shocked and sorry to read what's happened Hazy Wal! An absolutely dreadful occurrence that no person or dog should ever have to go through. Sending lots of healing thoughts to you, Maddie and Stan.
  3. Katdogs - they are beautiful beautiful dogs! Usually at this show we are benched along the back of the hall, on the outer edge where the public walk, opposite the stalls that are along the back wall selling grooming gear etc. I'll be the the lady with the dark hair and blue glasses stealing as many cuddles from the Borzois as I can :-)
  4. I'll be there on the 11th, being the hitching post and strapper for some friends with their Borzois :-)
  5. I was quite surprised when it was my vet that brought up titre testing as something to consider in the future for my boy with allergy/ immune system issues. (my boy is on the 3 yearly regime, so don't have to consider it until 2015).
  6. Oh gosh Flashsmum, that must have been so scary! Fingers crossed for a good recovery for Harry.
  7. I've just ordered some through Vet Products Direct. I got the 6 pack Blue (X Large Dogs 25+ kg) - price for 1box is $81.18, or if you order 2 or more at the one time, they come down to $64.89 each, plus $5.95 postage. Delivery is always super fast, and their service is fantastic. With applying the Advantix pretty much fortnightly over summer on 2 dogs, the saving of $32 on buying 2 packs is a blessing!
  8. BOB Borzoi - Aust Sup Ch Kenibea Th Chosen One (Jordan)
  9. Four Paws Pet Grooming is a good one. Ros is based outside Maitland, but does all over Newcastle, Lake Mac and into the Hunter Valley as well. She is great with dogs of all sizes, ages and temperaments. I think the phone no. is (02) 4932 6308.
  10. Big stainless metal cooking pots - the ones that are used for stocks and soups. They are good and solid, as well as being tall and narrow (but stable) meaning the dogs can't get their paws in to dig - not that MacDuff would even think of it as he believes his toes will drop off if they ever get wet. :)
  11. Oh poor sweet thing. Hope she continues to improve and gets to go home soon k9angel
  12. So sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Joey, running happy and pain free.
  13. Oh, that's not good Cat. Best wishes to you and you dog and fingers crossed that it's not too bad.
  14. I can wholeheartedly recommend Phillip Adams at Brunker Road Vets in Adamstown. He has been so thorough in investigating and treating MacDuff's allergy issues, which he thought could have had an underlying auto-immune issue. Very happy with him and the rest of the staff there. Is it one of your animals you are asking for Cat? If so, I hope they're ok.
  15. No worries. I'm still trying to find a local one to me in Newcastle for adding to my list :)
  16. Hi BC Crazy, sorry to hear about Sonny and his sore leg. Are you still in the Port Stephens area? If so, Dr Ilona Hudson who I think is still at Noah's Ark Vets (Medowie & Nelson Bay) is a qualified animal chiro. I haven't been to her personally, but I have heard some good things. Might be worth a call if you are still interested in following that avenue for Sonny's leg.
  17. Hi Fordogs, I've just started using Mushers Secret on my boy MacDuff''s pads (regrowth of pads after they peeled off due to allergic reaction) and I've already noticed a difference with the new soft tissue being a bit tougher in just 2 weeks. I'm also waiting on delivery of another product from the US - 'Handhills Tuff N Up Dog Pad Toughener' - I ordered it through Operation Sheepdog Herding ( http://www.sheepdogherding.com/dog-first-aid/tuff-n-up ) and am looking forward to trying it out as I've read some good reports on it.
  18. Hi cat lady, After the experiences I have had trying to find out what was wrong with my boy's pads, I would happily recommend Phillip Adams at Brunker Road Vet Centre in Adamstown. MacDuff was slowly going off his food, becoming depressed, and the skin on his pads started to slowly peel off and then the pads themselves started to ulcerate. After trying several vets over an almost 6 month period, who gave me a range of answers from "he's not depressed - he's just eating less because of the cold weather", "he's not running around as much as he is overweight" (which he was most definitely not - I try and keep my dogs on the leaner side) to "his pads are just wearing off as he is walking on concrete" I was lucky enough to see Phillip who straight away told me this was not normal and needed to be investigated. Phillip has now been seeing MacDuff for going on 9 months , and I am really happy with how MacDuff progressed and is now pretty much stable. After Phillip recommended blood tests, biopsy samples of pad tissue in case it was Lupus or similar and an elimiation diet, it was determined to be a hyper-sensitivty reaction to something (most likely a food) and we are now in the trial and error process of working out exactly what it is he is allergic to. Sorry for the ramble, but just wanted to show the extent to which Phillip was willing to listen to me about how I knew MacDuff was not himself, and then was willing to look for an answer and long term solution, not just a quick fix. Hope everything works out for your dog and his ear problems! :) Edited for spelling boo-boos
  19. MacDuff does this - but he is a smart cookie. Kita on the other hand just looks confused when the bowl moves...but then she isn't nicknamed Princess Fairy Floss Brain just for no reason :)
  20. So sorry to hear this W Sibs. RIP Charlie, there are many who will miss the stories of you
  21. Unfortunately for my dog who is recovering from an extreme immune response and hypersensitivity reaction to "something" that caused the skin to peel off his pads and for his paws to ulcerate, the pathology results of skin biopsies have not been able to identify an allergen. So I can't just "ask the vet exactly what the dog is allergic to"! He is currently on Hills Z/D Ultra as his sole source of food (and has been now for the last 5 weeks) and this has resulted in healing to the effect that no sign of the ulcers or peeling is evident. His coat is back to being soft and strong instead of dry and breaking, and his mood is no longer depressed and lethargic. So for me and my boy, the Hills Z/D has been a god send and I thank my vet every time I see him for putting my boy onto it! Oh, and ETA on forums generally means "Edited To Add..."
  22. MacDuff tends to get Duffy, Scruffy MacDuff Dog, Duffman, Puppy Boy, PuppyWoo and Pork Chop Nikita gets Kita, Kitty, KittyBellBell (or at the moment SmellyBellBell as she needs a bath), Princess, Floss, Flossie, FlossieChops, PuppyGirl, and Klepto (short for Kleptomaniac). My Mum also christened her "Princess Tinklebell Fairy Floss Brain Paris Lara Bingle Hilton" as whilst she looks pretty, she can sometimes be short on the odd brain cell or two
  23. Nikita (Borzoi) does this to me as well, especially when I am lying in bed. She also loves rolling on and snuffling her nose through my hair, particularly when it is wet. She was VERY disappointed when I got it cut short - although she also has a thing for my nephew's No. 2 buzzcut hairdo. Can anyone say "Weirdo!!" ? MacDuff (Deerhound X) is a spooner. When he is not feeling well he will sleep spooned next to me and put his paw on my hand so I can hold it while he sleeps. *rolls eyes*
  24. My borzoi Nikita will do this on a very rare occasion, usually if what she has eaten is too cold for her stomach. Bones and meals are now served at room temp or slightly warmer, and it seems to have fixed the problem.
  25. Hi Josuki, SUI - normally refers to Switzerland CHL - normally means Chile Cheers, Pip. EFS
