  1. different hotels I think, a friend of ours has a family member who works on the backgrounds of the show, and so the housemates get used to being isolated they kinda prep them for a few months (not exactly sure how many but its more than 1) they wean them off society so the house isnt such a big shock..... it could all be BS as Its just second hand information but it makes sense.

  2. BB at the end of the day is a scripted show to some degree, that is how things remain orderly.

The house mates are actually isolated in a hotel for a few months before the show even starts so Im sure they would have been given some "related" reading material or they would have been briefed on handling and basic training, what are the odds that all the people in BB were great dog handlers and knew exactly what to do... I dont think BB could risk it going south.

And I loved Delilah thought she was awesome and kept the housemates sane :).

  3. I'm in NSW unfortunatly but the stairs are an issue which is why Gus is being crated for a while and he needs to be carried up and down the stairs.....

Yep, I knew you were in NSW :)

Barry might be able to recommend someone good near you.

    Edited for clarity.

  4. What is the calcium % in the Artemis? Can't find it listed for them and it always concerns me when you don't have a full analysis.

Where are you located for the specialist? I can't recommend one in particular, but perhaps others can.

Also when did you first notice he might have a problem? Was it before or after you switched to the Artemis?

Go to the US website, click on the product, then click on Complete Nutritional Analysis, which shows the As Fed levels of Calcium and Phosphorus.

You probably already know this, and I don't mean to sound patronising, but it might be helpful to other posters/visitors to the site... The As Fed levels are what you actually get in the bag, while the Guaranteed Analysis is the guaranteed minimum.

    ETA:

I don't know why the Aussie website doesn't have this option

As you have looked it up, you may want to post the % then? .....

The As Fed Calcium to Phosphorus ratio of the Artemis Medium/Large Breed Puppy dry food is 1.5 : 1.1. I didn't mention this before because I wasn't sure which Artemis product TCM has been feeding Gus (I realise he is 12 months old, but not everyone feeds a puppy-specific food).

I dont feed him puppy, he hasnt been on puppy food since 8 months.. he is on adult large

  5. Went to show training last night and I must praise my show trainer once again because she is bloody brilliant, she has suggested that Gus may very well have a partially ruptured crucial stifle ligament and x-rays obvioulsy will not pick this up, she also made me feel inside his crucial ligaments and one side is significatly bigger then the other so she has told me to see Blair at quakers hill vet cross fingers its not completely torn or ruptured because that will require surgery.... (i'm still struggling to get a decent "stand" photo of him I do apologise)

  6. I was just going to say what a good show, it does capture the importance in responsible dog ownership, I have no idea about the rescue itself but I thought it was a step in the right direction in terms of awareness.

  7. Great the xrays have come back clear, hope the verterbrae is nothing.

Having said that I would now take him to see a Bowen therapist or similar. My boy had some gait issues and just could not hold a stack even if he wanted to - he tried but you could see it was uncomfortable. He also would aframe and drop his wither. After some Bowen he stands completely differently and is up and over his front legs. I do have to get it done from time to time to maintain it.

He may have some soft tissue things going on that xrays cannot pick up and I have to say unless your vet is a chiro or bowen therapist as well they will not look for or find it.

I will be taking him back to Green Dale in a months time so the chiro can have another look at him, I think with the combine efforts of the ciro and vet things will start to look a little more up hill, its day 1 of crating for Gus until we can figure out how to block off those stairs! neighbours are going to LOOOVE me :)

  8. Well I took Gus to a Vet that we are very happy with down in Austral, they x-rayed him and said his hips were so good they could score them, spine excellent he said Gus is very structurally sound and that I should be very proud of his breeding (thank dog!!) BUT the end vertebrae may have something going on but it was not pronounced enough to make a call on it and both vets had a gander and said nothing to look into further for now..... steps to take for the next 4 weeks.

    1. Block off steps as well as possible

    2. Crating during the day

    3. 500mg vit C

If there is no improvement we are to go back to have another look at the vertebrae and may start antibiotics if it's an infection.... but I am so so soooooo happy it has nothing to do with his hips, knees, or spine and that Gus is the best temperament Dalmatian to come through their doors :D ( haha they did x-ray him with no anethtetic and lots of handling was going on... Gus wasnt being very compliant, he thought it was play time, he always thinks its play time)

  9. Sorry, OT - but there was a radio quiz on yesterday at work and one of the questions was 'what is the puppy of a poodle and a labrador called' - I failed to resist yelling out "A MUTT".

All the women in the office fell over themselves laughing :D

Reminds me of a dinner I was at a few years ago. One of the women said to me "oh you've got dogs, you'd LOVE my new puppy. I have a Cockerpoo". Mr Ellz nearly fell off his chair when I replied "I pick that stuff up in my backyard every day........"

  10. what has always puzzled me about the oodle

is if you want the advandage of the poodle why not buy the real deal?

there is NO lottery will it shed or not.

it never will. they are amazing dogs and they come in every size available as well?

and their coats are bred to be the less matting than you will see in the x's

    its beyond me.

if you want a oodle GET A POODLE

Well she liked the face of the oodle so I said get a lagotto, they look like what the oodle fan club are trying to mimic IMO...but no not good enough a unpredictable mutt is what they would much prefer... i give up :mad

  11. It is for this reason that shelters desex and any responsible breeder who cannot control exactly who is going to be handling the dogs would do the same. I certainly know some kennel club breeders who desex at 8 weeks prior to sale for this purpose.

Rubbish. It simply is NOT in the best interests of the animal from a growth and health perspective. Responsible buyers WILL overwhelmingly desex their pets and the dogs benefit from their hormones as they grow.

Giant breeds desexed at 6 weeks? I shudder at the thought. :(

    agree 100%

  12. There is nothing much you can do, she is going to get this dog.

Too many questions & she will forget. Faced with cute puppy all sense goes out window.

Stick to have the parents been hip scored & PRA tested.

That's about as good as it gets & its pot luck about the rest.

what makes me angry more than ANYTHING they have had a pup every xmas for 3 years.... people like this should be jailed.... she chases after the pups with a cloth to wipe their mouth after they drink :S she is a germaphobe....

  13. Do you have some pics of gus standing naturally/ For some reason I thought you show him - has a judge/another exhibitor said anything or hasn't he been shown since this came up?

I do show him, this has not come up, but I havent shown him since it got noticeable, I will be showing him at the end of the month... and espinay2 i did feed him innova for a month inbetween the proplan and artemis but his skin flaired up more so i stopped it.

Nala got her first knee done by David I hear he is the best of the best ill give them a call, I dont have pet insurance :( biggest mistake... I will see if I can take some photos of him standing and ill post them up.
