Hi guys
I'm trying to teach my dog the "box"- i have pvc pipe on the ground- just
like at dog club and she just doesnt get it.
I'm trying to keep her amused and thinking while she and my other dog are
banned from the club while they have KC.
She runs about 3 steps when i say "box" and gesture, slow sweeping movement
with my left arm, and spins and sits just outside the box to the right of
the box!( We are only doing it at the moment from about 3feet).
Can anyone help me out?
Peri
Kya and Alex

Well Alex is home now.
He was given an antibiotic shot and also some codeine- which has settled his cough. He's looking much brighter than he did this morning.
He's also eaten a little- Hill's I/D diet- very bland!
And he's had some water while he was there too.
Hopefully he's on the road to recovery now.......
:D

I had to take Alex to the vet this morning and leave him there for the day- i woke up to hear him coughing- Mum said he's been coughing badly all night. Anyway he's coughed up whatever he had left in him all over the lounge and carpet- how do i get stains out of the carpet- i would say its from the tinned food i gave him( i normally wouldnt but it seemed soft for his throat)-as the stains are pink to dark pink.
Kya is ok- shes actually coughing a bit more today though.
Alex may have to be put on a drip as he's just starting to go into dehydration they said. If that's the case they will call me.
I'm so upset- but short of leaving him there - there's not much i can do
-
I just had to ring the vet- Alex isnt getting any rest (coughed all night) and coughed up the tablet twice this morning- the third time it was unsavable.
I asked about a cough suppressant and they said as he was on antibiotics that they didnt want to do that.........
He's not a happy boy- Kya is ok- not coughing as much.
-
Also a 25kg and 23.6kg dog

HI Wylie
They are on antibiotics but I would be interested in knowing more about Benadryl. The coughing kept them awake all night, and we have foamy carpet- where they have coughed and spewed!
The vet didnt seem to think yesterday that they would need a cough suppressant (sp)? And the one he was talking about actually knocks them out!
Alex actually coughed up his antibiotic this morning- not a pleasant experience sticking a slimy tablet back down his throat- but they let me so im lucky in that way.

Thanks TigerJack
-
hi gracesmum- yes they can still get it even if vaccinated- my dogs are vaccinated- they had a c6 last year- thats what their vacc card says.
-
Certainly is.
And I was looking forward to obedience comp day on Sunday!!!
Also Castle Hill flyball comp was on Sunday as well!!!
Ah well- they have their antibiotics now and i have informed CDC.
-
It's official they have KC.
The vet was concerned that Alex may have had a secondary infection- but he's ok- just gotta keep them quiet now
-
off to the vet-he just called and wanted us to come in ASAP when he heard Alex coughing!
-
Dogs do not need to go to the vet for kennel cough, it is a virus and they should recover on their own, but it does take about 3 weeks.
That said... there is a danger of them developing a secondary bacterial infection that would need to be treated by antibiotics. As long as they are generally ok, still eating and drinking, and the cough is a dry cough, they should be ok. If they seem to be very ill or the cough becomes wet sounding, get them to the vet ASAP.
Hi Daisy
Thanks for that- is it 3 weeks from the onset of the cough they should be isolated?
It is a dry cough- but one of them is spitting up water when they cough- after they have had a drink.

Ok our shirts were Green with white sleeves- but most of us had jackets or jumpers on- which were dark green, and i think most of us had baseball caps on too which were dk green. one team had, a black lab x kelpie, choc and white border, JRT, and a red cattle dog, the other had 2 lab x borders ( mine) a small yellow labrador, a black GSD X and a b/w border.
