  1. 6.1.3 No word that is in the nature of a known prefix or deceptively similar to a

known prefix and no prefix except the breeders registered prefix may be used

    in a dog's name.

Regs on naming pups ,the name would have been refused due to being a prefix

i find this rule rather finicky. For instance if I wanted to name my papillon {prefix} El beshiva, but i can't because thats too similar to the prefix of a border collie breeder in NSW's. Like what impact does that have on the breeder?

Agreed. And it appears to be up to the prefix owner to police this, not the admin people processing the registrations. There'd have to be hundreds of dogs with some version of "heaven sent" in their names, it's obviously not affecting any breeder, so why have the rule in place if it's going to be ignored by the admin staff?

My prefix is Mainstreet, it's not been used yet and might never be, but I would expect there are dogs with some version of my prefix in their names.

If another Border Collie breeder named one of their dogs something that looked VERY similar to my prefix, something that could be misconstrued as being my prefix, I'd jump up and down until it was changed. I don't want to be acknowledged as the breeder of anything other than what comes out of my yard.

Other breeds I don't care. A quick check of the prefix and it's easily noted that I breed Border Collies and no other breed.

That breeder would be me. laugh.gifthumbsup1.gif

Has no impact on me whatsoever. As long as the puppy is cute and black and whiterofl1.gif

Oh and I should add NOT a Border Colliebiggrin.gif

  3. What transfer into my name?

The pup is in the breeders name, is it supposed to be in mine?

I am confused, I have never had a pedigree pup before.

The papers I have say her name at the top and at the bottom, as owner and breeder.

If you look at the back of your papers, there is a section that you fill out and then you send the papers into your state's controlling body. The breeder needs to sign them as well. Then when you are issued with new papers your name will be on the front as the registered owner. The breeder's name will still be where the breeder's details are.

I'm shocked the breeder did not explain all this to you.

  4. Kelpies are very versatile and can also be trained to retrieve ducks ( ;) )

In all honesty my boy is of unknown origins but from the bush, he definitely has Kelpie in there and likely WKC Kelpie - he is a such a sweet boy and if I asked him to come for a 8km bike ride he would be there and if I was sick in bed for a week he would be on my feet all week. He used to live with sheep and was definitely very interested in them but I have no idea about sheep herding so do not if he was doing good things or bad things. He is smart and trainable - I would definitely recommend both WKC or ANKC kelpies, I find that the only difference for me would be a cosmetic one, I think someone with the right breeder/lines could find the right Kelpie for them from either registry.

Also benshiva Toby is heartbroken you think he is a 'mere' Kelpie :p I have owned one of each and have to say from my experience the poster that earlier described the differences was spot on!

Aww sorry bout that Toby. You are very very cute

    For a Kelpiebiggrin.gif

  5. I heard a saying a lot when I was growing up "Never give a Kelpie to a man with Border collies, unless you want to see him cry" I guess it's because BC's are such people pleasers and thrive on being trained and love doing, whereas kelpies are more, "I know how to do this, shut up" kinda dogs. My kelpie also gets really annoyed at me if he thinks he's been treated unfairly and will make it known by being a butthead for the rest of the day. He's also slower to catch on but once he learns it he knows it for life, this doesn't guarantee that he will perform it every time. Sometimes he questions my judgment. I've spoken to a few Canadian farmers who prefer them over any dog, and UK farmers who can't believe we use them so much and value borders much more. Although english sheep are pretty quiet compared to the rough, wild stuff we get out west.

Well of course they'd cry if given a mere Kelpie. Everybody knows that Border Collies are supreme beingsprovoke.gif

  6. With border collies the traditional black and white is probably the most popular.

but the blue merles are the most beautiful, of course ;)

with pugs, fawn is still the most popular, tho I am starting to see more black pugs out and about

Absolutely can't agree with that. Black and White is by far the most beautifulthumbsup1.gifrofl1.gif

and after looking through the latest DOL Puppy Listings I'm beginning to think Black and White may just be the new rare colour!biggrin.gif

  8. There's something a little off, probably deliberately off, about a presenter making much of her clevage while saying male genitalia are gross.

:rofl::rofl: I'm sorry but that is a coffee splurk moment.

The ad sure got your attention, didnt it, just as it got the attention of everyone else commenting in this thread so it must be working on one level or another  Even if it makes you cranky because she has her boobs on display. One thing is for sure - you wont be forgetting the ad in a hurry.

    Katherine Heigl ROCKS

Thisthumbsup1.gif It's obviously working to some degree. It has people talking about desexing dogs!!!

    I thought it was hilariouslaugh.gif

  9. The puppies take everything off the poor mothers. She's going to look like she's been dragged through a hedge. It can take up to 6-12 months for a bitch to recover from a litter. She'll be fine

Slightly incorrect benshiva. The female body is designed to carry a pregnancy, give birth and feed the offspring.

In humans the hair grows luxuriously and falls out when the baby is around 4 months old, with some women they can be almost bald. They also lose weight around 6 months of age.

Given that dogs have a 9 week pregnancy and an 8 week feeding cycle, 5 weeks could equate to the hair loss age and weight loss of the pregnancy stored fat.

Both recover quickly with sound nutrition.

My dogs DO have sound nutrition. I'm only going by what I've experienced with my coated dogs and their recovery times from their litters. It DOES take them 6 months minimum to look in "show" condition again. So not incorrect at all in my opinion. Every dog is different

  10. . Greyhounds are a perfect example. A Greyhound with HD cannot run so they simply do not exist in the gene pool. Despite their size there is no need to hip score racing Greyhounds. Apart from Greyhounds, HD and ED are very much related to the weight of the puppy at a critical stage of their development.

I would disagree with this, plenty of greyhounds have been bred from that can't run, after all they are the 5th cousin twice removed from the current top dog! ;) Why they can't run is often not investigated.

You are absolutely right there Rebanne.

  11. What pay money to see a trainer who thinks its ok to hit and kick dogs? no thanks

I have never seen him "hit"or "kick"a dog...

The show was FANTASTIC at Newcastle and I think he is amazing....and it showed in the training of one special dog in 5 minutes.

    Just "my"opinion..

Wouldnt have missed it for anything.

I was at the Newcastle show too! I thought he was fantastic.

Love Ceasar. He was very entertaining. The Q and A in Newcastle was pretty good.

  13. OMG a tablespoon of salt to a cup of water would be torture on a poor dog! Please OP do NOT do this. That's way to harsh a mixture to put on a cut. frown.gif

A TEASPOON to a litre of water would be more like the concentration I'd use.

  14. Any sport can be bitchy, anything that involves passes or a winner can be bitchy.

Go past those people and find the ones who are not. I know some wonderful people in showing, obedience and agility. I know some I wouldn't waste my breathe on as well.

I agree!! Conformation is my thing for want of a better word. Agility is my husbands domain. We've both tried our hand at obedience and we've both spent a lot of time around the rings at all three disciplines. For those that think it doesn't exist outside the "show" world open your eyes. There are some VERY nasty people in all three disciplines. Find the good ones and stick with them. I must be so lucky because the people I hang with at shows are fanbloodytastic!!! We have a brilliant time at shows and we ALWAYS welcome questions from newbies. Just seek us out and start askingthumbsup1.gif

  15. I understand your statment, but I just thought that they had a higher authority to answer to  which is what seperates the ANKC from other registries ( dodgies etc.)

I am trying my best to leave her to it, but she keeps involving me with every little thing.

now she wants me to help pick a name.....i dont even want to do that.....i think she should wait until she receives said puppy...

Tell her to stop involving you then. Tell her you want nothing to do with it and don't want to hear about it. When she tries to talk about it with you tell her you're not interestedshrug.gif
