We go to obedience at Leichhardt Dog Training club on sundays. She's moved up to 3rd class and we've been complimented on her progress.

Last weekend though we were doing some recall exercises and as soon as my husband unhooked her lead (following what the instructor did) she thought it was play time and ran off after some other dogs. So i am now doing off lead training in the small fenced park near our house when we're on our own (no other dogs or people).

If I remember rightly, the Leichhardt club classes are held adjacent to an off leash dog park without fencing. If this is still the case, perhaps find a class without the nearby distractions.

Brush Farm club has a good venue, although I've only been to a workshop there - not a club class.

I have never had a problem with the clip on my K9 pro leashes (I have two, in use for years)

I love my K9 pro leash, the leather is divine. But my the clip sometimes mysteriously undoes. Is this generally a clip issue or is it just mine?

What is special about the C-crates?

Are they a different material to the 'usual' black coated wire jobs? Thicker wire?

Their site says

"Zinc silver coating for hygiene, powdercoating your colour choice available" but no more detail and the pics are pretty basic.

I need a large crate and the price diff is pretty steep between c-crates and the oft recommended "vebo" (assuming this is the one available from vebopet)

I just went to Pet Rescue as a user and not a rescuer and tried to search for a dog. I'm using Firefox. I clicked on "small" but it kept reverting to "all" and I ended up with over 3000 listings. In fact no matter what search I tried I ended up with the same number of dogs.

Then I went to Internet Explorer and discovered that things like the search button don't even appear in Firefox. Since Firefox accounts for about 22% of browsers out there, you can probably assume that that little issue already cuts out a fifth of possible adopters.

A basic search for small dogs in NSW works for me using Safari on Mac .. I don't have Chrome installed and hope to not have to download it just for one website...

Edit ... ignore the rest ... I just didn't understand that I was actually looking at the result .... I was expecting a list, not a patchwork of tiny images .... doh.

The adopt-a-dog search on the pedigreeadoptiondrive page won't work for me. I wonder is this related to the changes in the petrescue site (I assume it's just a hook into the Petrescue database).

..... I know they asked for us all to email them, but, as I said no one else sees the reply and they would probably be answering the same question 100 times so seems logical for someone to come on here where we all are and we are the users of PR.

That's fine doing that but all of us who use PR will not see the answers, we all need to know what is going on and if our concerns are being looked into or is the site now complete and we just have to use what we have.

The publicly posted questions (at the PRescue site) are all visible to members and any member can post a followup question or supply an answer.

Those of you that know snakes...I have a question.

We've had a few nice, sunny, spring days and as a result we've seen a few snakes out and about. Then the weather took a turn for the worst and it's back to winter this weekend. So we went for a walk in the bush with the dogs to warm up. OH let his dog run free saying there will be no snakes as it's so cold they'll all go back into hibernation. I kept my dog on a lead cause I reckon once the snakes have awoken they don't go back into hibernation. So who's right?

To the best of my knowledge ... snakes don't actually hibernate ... certainly I've had a dog bitten by a RBB in June (NSW, Rural, Hunter region) - We don't generally see them in the winter but they're there .. I think we somehow disturbed that one while getting firewood - maybe he was hibernating and we just woke him early.

Seen quite a few around this season and no way would I be assuming they've gone to sleep - particularly if a big wet nose pokes in under the log they've found to keep warm under.

I've used them a few times, the last time about 12months ago - no problems.

Someone asked about my heavily tweaked pic in my last post (page 40 I think) - the pic was actually taken in daytime and was as boring as batshit - I just messed with in it lightroom until I had an abstracty thing I liked the look of....

Yes, but you have to watch the horses don't lean on it as it takes a while to soak in.

My little paly shetland was covered in it after ahe scratched herself on the roundyard rails. She was so filthy and greasy. It took ages to get off as it was practically water resistant. :laugh:

We built this for Kyojin when we first got him, but he soon decided that he was an inside dog only so it was a bit useless really. Pity, we were very proud of ourselves. :laugh:

I have fantasies of a large completely raised dog run - too many snakes here to allow the dogs free access outside in the summer.

Hopefully the council and the shelter can sort out the issues and the dogs continue to get a second chance.

Council certainly has a responsibility to ensure they release dogs to an ethical operator and it looks to me like they're trying to ensure that the operator doesn't become overwhelmed.

At the time I was furious, so thought it better to say nothing. If I had and it hadn't gone well it may have escalated and caused repercussions for my Mum, her room-mate, the staff and facility.

That is what (I hope) I would have done, especially if my Mum was in the facility long term.

It would take a level of skill and diplomacy which I don't possess to insert myself into a situation like that.

I've fostered several rescue malamutes and the size varied markedly - from one girl who was a bit smaller than my akitas and a boy who was huuuuge.

Have a look for rescue mals and you'll see quite a variation in type -

Hats off for ingenuity if it is not legitimate! Well the dogs are homeless too and he has obviously trained them well. He will probably go quite well and hopefully spend some on the dogs.

Looks like a total scam to me. I would more likely drop a voucher for a free vet check rather than money - at least there would be some hope that the dogs would really benefit.

I tend to be turned off by beggers/homeless using animals or children as "marketing tools" - although when I go into the city I try to remember to put a few dollars in my pocket in case I pass some poor sod sitting on the footpath in the cold (dogs or not). I figure if they're desperate enough to be there on a wet windy night then who am I to make judgements about what they do with their money.

(disclaimer - just finished re-watching the first series of The Wire ... perhaps I'm a bit despairing of society in general)

To be honest they are the only ones I have ever seen. I didnt know dogs amongst the homeless were as common as this thread has revealed.

Everywhere in the world where there are homeless ... I saw quite a few street people in Madrid last year with dogs - most of which looked pretty well cared for.

That's why Pacers gives them dog food and other things to help them look after their dogs and not money.

From what I see here on DOL - you're doing some great work. Just that it appears (from this side of the screen) that Pacers=Steve and I wonder how one woman can spread so wide !
