  1. I love the catahoulas- shame they aren't pedigree dogs.
  2. Am bulldogs aren't recognised pedigree dogs.
  3. I wouldn't say schnauzers have low enough maintenance coats. Leema to be honest, i am trying to think of a pedigree dog that has the qualities i love in my bull arab type dogs- dogs that i will probably never get to own again once the new laws are here. Not an am staff fan though. Boxers are as close as we have so far i think but welcome more suggestions.
  4. Yep the sighthounds are out because of their build and a few other factors. Admittedly i have not met Erny's RRB but the others i do know have been far from drivey. Border collies and normal collies are out too. I have met a few cane corsos and they don't seem to be very active? Not sure if thats typical or not though. Boxers are a really good suggestion- forgot about them!
  5. GSP's are gundogs i'm afraid otherwise they would have been up there. Malinois are probably a bit too full on i think. Lol at the border collie too Dallies are probably a bit too similar in temperament to some of the gundog breeds. Ridgebacks not drivey enough.. Fussy i know!! I appreciate the suggestions!!
  6. Can anyone give me some examples of some pedigree dogs that may fit these traits? NO gundog breeds 30kg plus short or low maintenance coat moderate to high prey drive Athletic, of solid build and able to be active in warm weather Generally friendly with people but slightly aloof okay
  7. No one can agree on temperament assessment anyway though. Regardless that still leaves one of my dogs in the firing line- never in her life has she shown aggression but she is fearful and would fail any temp test.
  8. I hope you're right megan- but if the dogs Graeme Smith was pointing the finger at were anything to go by- who knows. Thats good advice nek- we usually leave them inside most days anyway but i guess now it will be every day, even if its sunny and gorgeous outside.
  9. The government aren't listening to anyone- except the voice of a scared and ill informed general public.
  10. Thats pretty much it aussielover- except i'd replace dangerous with restricted. Though the media and the policy makers use the terms interchangably. Thats whats running through my head at the moment Megan. I just can't get my head around it either- that someone could come and take my dog and kill it with no process or appeal.. I am freaking out a bit to be honest. Especially as my dogs are plastered all over my website, my car, travel everywhere..
  11. The thing is- how on earth are you supposed to know. I honestly couldn't tell you with any certainty what my cross breed dogs are. I don't think they are APBT but other people might. I just saw Graeme Smith from LDH on spruiking about them being the most dangerous dogs in Australia- and then they showed a dog that looked like one of mine..
  12. Ag minister just said that "if it quacks like a duck, swims like a duck, it is a duck. If it fits the description of a pit bull type dog and if it is not registered as a restricted breed it will be put down after September 30th"
  13. Great.. Can they really just seize and destroy with no right of appeal or process? Guess they can do whatever they bloody well like.. I am very concerned for some of my clients dogs as well.
  14. Are you sure Megan? If a dog is registered with council but the council sees the dog (or a hotline caller dobs the dog in) and believes the dog should have been registered as a restricted breed and kept accordingly, can they seize and destroy at that point?
  15. I do love Canberra whenever i go there PF. But its too quiet and small, and there is no AFL! I love Melbourne in every way- except our policy makers and over regulation.
  16. Scary days ahead. If there is a news report in the future about some crazy lady baricading herself inside her house refusing to give up her dogs- that'll be me. That page is GT but i'd love to see the pics when you have a chance too. I believe American Staffordshires and Pit Bulls are genetically identical?
  17. How can you plan on owning one when its illegal to breed or import them?
  18. Is there any history of DNA tests being used in court for breed id and if so does anyone have any links?
  19. I haven't seen anywhere where it says when the visual code will be released- i wish they'd do it soon because i'd like to know what we're dealing with.
  20. No parentage known so looks like bitsa is it. Is it cheapest to get it online?
  21. How do you get a dog DNA tested for breed ID? Can someone point me in the right direction please.
  22. Thats my concern too bite me. My dogs are registered and contained so my hope is that they should not come under scrutiny. But what if someone with a beef or paranoia calls the dob in a dog hotline? I have no way of proving what my 2 bull breeds are as they are from shelters. Will a shelter having labelled a dog as a Staffy x or Bulldog x be enough?
  23. Its all well and good to say don't buy cross breed bull breed dogs- but many people already have them! This will have a flow on effect to bull type cross breeds in shelters too- who's going to adopt them now.
