  1. RIP Ocar Man. You were a credit to your breed. Always happy always smiling, loved a swim but only with other dogs or it was a bit too much like exercise, and who will ever forget your tyres that you loved playing with sooo much.

No more pain just free happy running with my Khesahn.

  3. There is a new plan out and for the life of me i cannt remember the name(will check it out if you like)

I have contact daily with people that have spent thousands of dollars on surgery for there dogs but not many have insurance and most of them wish they did. This new plan has a range of things they cover for including most if not all surgerys they do not exclude certain breeds for certain procedures (e.g rotties with hip and elbow probs)will cover rehab costs, will cover a certain amount if you were planning to travel and have to cancel due to dogs illness or injury.

I will certainly be looking into this when i get my new rottie baby. Learnt the hard way when Khesah got sick and had to scrape up money for vet bills.

  4. I have had this problem in my greyhounds and my Rottie, can be hard to treat because as you say they seem to be getting better then pull up lame again.

You must rember if your vet sees alot of greyhounds (racing ones) they will probarly err on the side of not wanting to spend too much of your money as most greyhound trainers will take the wait and see approach (unlees the dog is fast) (have lots of experience here have vet nursed in greyhound clinics for 13 years). I would ask for an xray just to be on the safe side and maybe consider some swimming as it is low impact and will burn some energy.

  5. Had quite a bit of experience in this area with my rottie and also clients that we see at work. Metacam worked well for my dog along with a herbal remedy called joint yoga you should also keep your dog active with swimming if possible as this is a non impact exercise.

Cartrophen works well in some dogs as well as sasha's blend Glucosamine tabs are great but you need to ensure your dog is recieving the right dose.

  6. We sell them where i work, $25 a pair most dogs do adjust to wearing them after the inital period of "oh my god what is on my feet" I find if you put them on and then take them for a walk or play a game they tend to forget about them. Avaliable in 8 sizes with biggest being for male malamute or big shepherd

  7. I think just like a normal tumor they are suseptable to bleed the vet told me Khesahn would not be in much discomfort maybe a small headache like sinus pain and did prescribe some pain killers but on the whole i found that she didnt need them and was her usual happy self upto the day i had to do the horrible deed but then i could tell she was ready and prolonging it would have only been for my sake not hers.

The brown mucus will be from dried blood inside her nose.

Give her a big hug and kiss and think happy thoughts.

  8. Hi David

Unfortunaltly i can identify with your problem all too well I lost my best friend in the whole world my Lovely Khesahn a femal Rottie to a nasal tumor in Feb this year.

The first i noticed anything was wrong was a nose bleed in November last year at the time i put this down to her bumping into something. Then about 3 weeks later anotherone and i booked her in for a scope to be put up her nose to investigate. The day before she was due to go in she had a major bleed and was rushed to the vet they gave her a GA and scoped her nose and found a tumor in her right nasal cavity. This was devastating to me my options were to leave it and let her live out her life we were given about 8 weeks or try chemo and maybe prolong her life by a max of about 12months I opted not to give chemo and as it turns out i would not have had time to get more than one treatment in anyway. The bleeds progressivleygot worse and i had to have her put to sleep on the 2nd of Feb a day i will never forget as long as i live. I hope your outcome is better than ours and i truley feel for you if you would like to talk or need any advice just drop me a line.

  9. We have treated quite a few Danes and Dobs with wobblers some before and some after surgery (if it was warrented) I would either go back to your vet and get him to refer you to a specialist or go somewhere else for a second opinion. Usually a MRI is the best diagnostic tool in cases like these rather than x/rays. If you are in melbourne you can PM me and i will let you know where this can be done.
