  1. This is not the first time he has come to the attention of authorities. It would seem the law has little effect or power to control his actions. Perhaps it is time the dog community banded together for a common cause. To protect our animals and the public from unscrupulous people. Every long jouney it starts with one step. Perhaps we could start with this one. Lets start by posting this warning on EVERY site we can.
  2. Only if you slap the little dog between 2 slices of bread. Yum hot dogs
  3. Well how is a male dog meant to get testicular cancer if he doesnt have any testicles. Same goes for a bitch with ovarian or uterine cancer. Exactly ..... You can't get cancer of something you don't have. (or does lovemesideways know something we dont?)
  4. This is partially true. Desexing a dog or bitch will remove the chance of them getting some types of cancers and diminish the chance of getting some other types of cancer. i.e a desexed dog WILL NOT get cancer of the testicles.
  5. Could you elaborate? Well it's a scientific fact that dog's are carnivores! Dogs have teeth and digestive systems almost incapable of digesting or absorbing nutrients from vegetation or grain. (omnivores?) And their DNA is 99.8% identical to wolves, which are carnivores. And contrary to popular belief, internationally recognised wolf expert, David Mech, has proven that wolves don't eat the stomach contents of their prey - they shake it out and eat the lining. Dogs can and do eat vegetable matter. just look at the main ingredients listed on dry food packets. In most cases the first and main ingrediant is cereal or grain. I have always fed my dogs vegetables as part of their diet and they have all lived to ripe old ages.
  6. This is true... I once fed my dog raw meat and now she goes hunting in the shopping bags and fridge. And she can really murder a steak.
  7. So how old is your Leo? She is 11 years old Still pretty active and spritely for her age I know that may not seem old to some but I think the oldest living Leo in the world is only 14
  8. I'm very privileged to be loved by not only the oldest living Leonberger in Australia but also the Southern Hemisphere.
  9. The oldest living Leonberger in Australia is Pascha. The oldest living New Zealand bred Leo is Pascha She is also believed to be the oldest living Leonberger in the whole of the Southern hemisphere. Not a bad achievment Her long term goal is to become the oldest living Leonberger in the world.
  10. Yes. Although it is a lovely story and shows the undying love and devotion our canine friends give us it has such a sad ending.
  11. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/...-guide-dog.html Pooch has her own guide dog Guide dog ... Leo looks after Ellie A BLIND dog has got her very own dog LEAD - a guide dog named Leo. King Charles Spaniel Ellie has cataracts and can only see shadows. But best pal Leo, a German Shepherd, understands her plight and has started taking her everywhere with him - even fending off any unwanted attention from other mutts. Owner Julie Lander said: "I take them for walks in the park and Leo guides Ellie around. "He is so protective and herds the more boisterous dogs away from her." Julie, from Oldham, is trying to raise £2,500 so vets can operate and restore her sight. She was one of a litter of five puppies rescued by RSPCA inspectors. Julie, an RSPCA volunteer, said: "As well as having cataracts, Ellie's eye muscles haven't developed as they should because she'd been kept in the dark. "The puppies had no light or heating. I felt so sorry for her when she arrived here and knew she'd need a special home. "But I also knew she would be all right with Leo as he just loves little dogs and they took to one another straight away." Jean Spencer, manager of the Rochdale RSPCA shelter, said: "Leo has become her eyes. It's touching to watch them together - she follows him around and snuggles up to him." 12. Hi BF, Where did you get those amazing pics from? I would love to be able to take my girls on the bike with me. but Victorian laws says they must be even better protected than me. the thing I really dont like is the requirement for them to be harnessed to the bike. Restrained for protection is Ok but the restraints need to be breakaways. Not like seatbelts in a car. Unlike a car where you are better off being restrained in your seat and letting the car absorb the impact a bike rider will take the FULL impact and force. The only way for a rider to disipate this deadly energy is to be able to roll free and hopefully burn some of these forces off before the final stop. Hey like they say "A fall has never killed anyone. .... It is just the sudden stop at the end"
  13. You could try Peter the Possum Man. They gaurantee their work. They will come out and inspect your home, seal up the possum's entry point and any other entry points they find. They will then set a oneway trapdoor. To allow the possum/s to exit but not return. After a few days they will return to remove the trapdoor. As others have said you are not allowed to remove a possum more than 50 feet from it's current home, which at the moment is your ceiling and even if you did then others are likely to move in to replace them. So trapping alone will not work. You need to stop them being able to regain access after they have been removed. Oh and they hate being evicted and can be very determined to get back in again. All this can be done from outside and during normal daytime work hours
  14. If your a handy person you can get the possums out of your roof and walls yourself. First seal off all entry points the possums are or might be able to use with a piece sheet metal. You need to seal off any and all possible enty points. They can be very determined to get back in. Important. You will need to provide an exit point for them. If you have a tiled roof this is easily done by sliding a tile back just before dusk to let them out and closing it later in the night before they return. You will need to do this over several days to be sure tht they have all left. It also helps to place some tempting apple pieces out for thm to encourage them to come out. Hope this helps
  15. Thanks Guys I ave a T2 shop close by so will drop in there tomorrow
  16. Ah I knew there was a secret to green tea. I don't boil the water. Yes green tea along with asparagus was suggested because of their free radical properties. Just so you know we have had a little scare. CANCER
  17. Yeah I was told it could be bitter if not prepared properly. Don't worry they will always have access to fresh tap water along with their apple cider vinager water. Edited to add vinager. My girls don't drink cider
  18. OK I will show my ignorance here. Hence why I am asking. I have heard of 'Green tea' and the benifiets it is supposed to have. But what exactlly is green tea? It has been suggested that I start to give my girl chinese green tea due to a recent health scare. From what I gather it either could or might help but if it doesn't can't hurt. So where do I buy it? Safeways?? How do I prepare it? (I really do not want to have to go through a whole japanese ritual of tea preparation) How do I give it to her. Maybe as a subistute to water? Any helpful advise will be greatfully recieved
  19. Hi Chezzy, Rowville Vets have a hydrobath or there is a doggie salon on Burwood Hwy FTG. Both provide service or DIY
  20. (((( Katey ))))) No your not nuts. Your grieving deeply for your boy. Maya was pretty special wasn't he? So open up the flood gates and cry, cry, cry. When I had to finally send my Boy to the bridge I nearly destroyed myself with grief. As Fido said their is dedicated pet grief counselling available in Melb. if you need it. And your girls. Let them help you through this painful time. You know they are trying to be strong for you, (It really is just an act) -- they will be missing him just as much as you do. Sit down with them, have a cuddle and a cry together for your departed friend. It will help both you and the girls.
