  1. I guess it depends on how bad the problem is in the individual dog but Mick has had anal sac problems his whole life & he's had them drained a few times at the Vets. Never impacted or infected, just full but I'll share the "cure" I found for Mick. He used to "bum-rub" ALL the time, it was very embarassing because he'd do it on friend's carpet & in the park on the grass. He'd make grunting noises as he scooted down my hallway. Anyway, a few months ago in an effort to reduce his fat intake, I switched half of his canned dinner with a rice, pea & corn mix. The peas & corn are the tinned variety. Since I switched him onto the corn (just a tablespoonful or so a day) he has almost completely stopped scooting I made the connection when I noticed the complete corn kernals in his stools, they don't digest corn & the kernals seem to be just the right size to help empty his sacs on their way out. Probably won't work for all dogs but it helped Mick.
  2. You can add my dogs to the list of happy campers  It's one of the few products that lists the calorie content on the tin so it's good for me to know how much I can give Mick. It's a much more energy dense food though, way more calories than Pal etc. It would be very easy to over feed your dog if you're switching from a different, lower calorie food.
  3. Ginger's mum, he has injections every 12 hours & is as good as gold with them. No fuss, just sits & waits for me to do it & then opens his mouth like PacMan waiting for me to drop his treat into it! Been on a few US websites & they were very helpful, I was just wondering if there were any/many DOL owners with diabetic/blind dogs & there's a few of us with optically challenged dogs it seems. Mick had a infected corneal ulcer once & it cost me hundreds, animal specialists are quite the opportunists aren't they!?!?
  4. My guys love them & know what's coming when they hear the word "greenie" I think they warn about the green coloured poos on the packet? I know I've read about it somewhere, maybe on the Greenies website. My boy takes a day to finish his one "petite" & his teeth have never looked better, no sloppy poos from either dog though.
  5. You're right, it is easier to hide things from him He's not much of a player, likes his stuffed toy (in a girlfried sort of way ) but that's about it, he used to chase balls but has slowed down a bit lately & sleeps a lot. He hears EVERYTHING, so you have to be very sneaky to get anything past him, like food packets! I have little bells that I use when we're out & he just follows the sound around the park, he goes nuts when he hears me pick them up because he knows we're going out. It's strange how quickly you get used to them being blind, I found myself having to adjust back to having a sighted dog when my female chi came along. Mel, what eye disease does your girl have?
  6. My Chihuahua, Mick is coming up to his first anniversary as a diabetic & has been blind for nearly 9 months. I can't say I've met any other diabetic dogs nor have I met another blind dog & I was just wondering if anyone else has a diabetic/blind dog & would like to share their story/tips with me? Kate
