  1. It simply isn't worth discussing a concept that is impossible for certain others to comprehend.
  2. At what age do babies get a personality would you say? Or are all human beings simply moody, impulsive creatures with no control over themselves? At what age do babies get a personality would you say? Or are all human beings simply moody, impulsive creatures with no control over themselves? Personality develops over a person's life. Generally development slows after a person reaches maturity. Babies have a personality in-utero. They are born with their personality.. we all develop as we grow.. but our base personality is there from conception.
  3. Perhaps if certain people didn't respond in a manner that made them come across as a psychopath, then others wouldn't have said it. Hypothetical or not.. it isn't a normal person who clearly and coldly states that they would leave a child to die in a fire over a dog.
  4. I think this thread has to go down as one of the MOST bizarre ones, ever.
  5. I'd choose the child in the burning building, unless my subconcious took over and then I just don't know. But I am curious as to why you think choosing the dog would lead to a very very dead dog? Nor can I see why you think such a decision would lead to jail time. Social censure no doubt, but why jail? Back when I did such work that I might come across a disaster situation, I was always told that there was no legal obligation to risk one's life to save another's. Child or adult made no difference. You were never required to risk yourself for another. And I am assuming a burning building situation involves some risk to the rescuer. Has that legal positon changed? I have no doubt if a hypothetical like this happened, that SOMEONE would kill the dog in question. I said I'd HOPE for jail time, but I also have no doubt if this was to happen and a dog was deliberately saved OVER a child and that there was a possibility of saving that child, that every cop involved would go through the summary offences act, crimes act, or case law just to find something to put them away. Absolutely.
  6. As much as this thread has become full of virtually unbelievable stories about marauding autistic children and teens, touching people's dogs and punching people when they least expect it (Seriously people? WTF!)... there appears to be several psychopaths in our midst. ANYONE who actually believes they could or would leave a child in a building to die to save a dog has something dangerously wrong mentally. Sadly, that sort of person is someones neighbour, family member, co-worker... one can only assume you wouldn't actually have the courage to test that disgusting theory of yours.
  7. It's been a while since I've been on DOL too.. RIP you brave Little Snot! May your heart heal over time MightyBean. xx
  8. Excellent,... 2 more untrained, juvenile delinquent Great Danes will be either dumped in a pound or surrendered to rescue in approx 8mths time.. (or 'the naughty' one will be).. Just what Dane Rescue needs... advance warning... Your friend is totally unrealistic and immature to think bringing 2 giant breed puppies into her life when she is bringing 2 humans into her life isn't going to be damaging to all concerned..
  9. SO much of this really makes no sense.. apart from the fact that it's Las Vegas.. If the dog has come from the US, the chip details would have been changed to a local address whilst the dog was in quarantine here... you could easily contact customs or whatever the Quarantine Station is down there and ask them to check her chip number.. you could do that in every state.. and locate whoever brought her into the country... easy.
  10. Unless people step forward and willingly allow themselves to be test subjects for new drugs then animals are needed. If you have ever taken anything prescribed by a doctor or bought painkillers etc then you have taken something tested on animals. I'm not a supported of inhumane research, but unless we give up modern medicine or people agree to be tested then we need animals in medical research. The funny thing is, you'd get "Oh noes, I couldn't possibly take some untested drug, I might get sick. Maybe first we can test it on.. oh.. wait.." People are happy to protest animal testing but you never see them turning down their insulin, their penicilin or a surgery to save their own lives. Some of them even have excuses for why they can use them (but no one else can). Quoth some idiot who works for PETA.. (and requires daily insulin) "I need my life to fight for the lives of animals." That would be Ingrid Newkirk, president of PETA. Even though there is synthetic insulin available, she CHOOSES to use insulin derived from pigs... who are intensively farmed, housed permanently inside and killed for there pancreas'. She's a hypocrite of the highest order.
  11. Stop feeding your dog 5 times a day. that's ridiculous.. as is your claim that his ribs prevent him from digesting food like a normal dog. Feeding so frequently has taught his body to metabolise his food very quickly. (when people diet they eat small, frequent meals to teach their body to burn faster, therefore, losing weight).. 2 meals per day of a PUPPY FOOD, mince AND chicken frames I would think that whoever reported you for feeding your dog inadequately.. was spot on. Listen to the advice you've been given. otherwise, you are simply being a troll and trying to upset people on purpose.
  12. So very sorry for your loss, Jules.
  13. Thank you everyone. Trying to keep myself busy otherwise I fall to pieces.
  14. I first met Cordelia at Blacktown Pound almost 13yrs ago... before I was involved in Rescue. I was looking for a black Labrador Retriever puppy to adopt (because surely there would be a black purebred puppy there available for adoption! lol) I saw a grossly overweight, very sad Labrador Retriever. I thought she was old and sad and whilst I felt for her, I wasn't looking for an adult to take home. What I didn't realise that day was that she had already chosen me. She was mine and she knew it. It just took me a bit longer to realise. 5 days later, very little sleep and a black Lab who haunted me every time I fell asleep, I finally asked the staff when she was due to be put to sleep... it was first thing the next morning.. her owners had left her for dead. I found out she was only 2yrs old. I'd sussed out that she had some very basic obedience and she was starved for affection. She would smoosh herself as close to me as she could through the bars of her kennel... I walked out of the pound, convinced I didn't want an adult dog with no history... I sat in my car and promptly burst into tears... Cordelia came home with me and she was happy I finally figured out that she was mine forever. It took some time, but she lost her weight (ok, she battled with her weight on and off at times, but never got to the gargantuan 48kg she was when I adopted her!) Cordelia was the reason I got involved in Rescue and the reason I started my own so many years ago. I've lost count of how many foster babies she helped me raise. She cleaned, snuggled, played with and guided babies with her bossy but gentle nature. She was the ultimate nurturer. She loved having puppies around. She was a people person, but more than anyone else, she loved me. Even when I wasn't particularly loveable, she loved me anyway. When others left, when my heart was sad, when friends disappeared, she was my constant companion. She grew up with Sean and recently, has helped my William start walking. She adored both my boys. Cordelia is the bravest dog I knew. She didn't do anything heroic, but when she broke her leg 14mths ago and osteosarcoma was found (and consequently amputated the leg at 13yrs old), she was so very brave. She recovered faster than anyone thought she would. She managed to walk well when many thought she wouldn't. She had a will to live that was, I am sure, for my benefit.. because I wanted her to survive. She tried valiently this time too. She was so stoic and brave but the bastard cancer returned and attacked her elbow. She tried so hard to be brave, but today, she was distressed and she didn;t try to hide it as much. She needed me to let her go. To help her go. She was in excrutiating pain and wasn't going to get better.. the cancer had spread to her lungs and liver. With an utterly broken heart, I said goodbye to my old girl. Genevieve is fretting for her "mum". 1997 - 2011 My gorgeous girl 2wks ago.
  15. i remember about 2 years ago seeing an article in either new idea or womens weekly (i don't read these mags but the girls who i work with do and bring them in and put them on the table)he was answering letters from people with pets. one person asked what is the best breed to get for a flat or apartment>? his answer was a cavoodle, spoodle and all the crosses encouraging people to go and buy a dog from a petshop. also they wanted to know about training and his method was completely ridiculous, i can't remember exactly what he said but it was stupid and would not work. so i emailed him and gave him a serve about him encouraging breeding up of crosses and puppy farms etc etc. and next thing i know he is going into a puppy farm raid and advertising about it on the 7pm project. he changed his tune, i gave him heaps of links and it looks like he did take notice of me or others who also gave him a serve. Sorry, but he didn't look at the links you sent him or take even the slightest bit of notice of anything you may have said in your email. It's highly likely he didn't even read it. He is a HUGE supporter of ACA Breeders which are a HUGE puppy farm groug (they have a few mills).. Don Burke is a pathetic, impotent little man who has a dangerously large ego. He knows the quickest way to get A LOT of attention is to serve up an article about dog breeding and bagging registered breeders... the biggest problem is that the people who DO respond to him are often the uneducated, the bogans and the semi illiterate who carry on like porkchops and hurl abuse at him.. which simply plays directly into his sick little game and it humours him. The sooner he melts into obscurity, the better (and he is on his way there as few under 30's would even know who he was...
  16. This is exactly what the OP stated.. the person she was discussing the topic with had very little knowledge and would never put kids and dogs together and has no intention of getting a dog... all responsible, good choices on that persons part as far as I can see. What's the point of trying to convince someone otherwise when they'll not change their mind? My mother has a nervous breakdown if she sees my dogs near William.. oh well. No oint arguing with her as she won;t change her mind and and I have little inclination to explain anything to her as she won't listen anyway.. I simply keep the baby gate up when my mum is visiting. Easy. No she didn't. She tolerated your potentially dangerous behaviour very well.. SHE was non-reactive and the fact that you were never bitten is testament to her good temperament.. NOT how much she loved you.
  17. Genevieve had it.. she was desexed at 14wks and as she's grown, it's popped out anyway.. never had a season (obviously) and never had a UTI.
  18. That's why the path report suggests liver function checked... crystals aren't going to give you a better reading than that pathology report..
  19. Huh? It's on at Rosehill Racecourse every year. But yep.. lots of stalls... and show bags at stalls Everyone LOVES getting showbags full of crap lol!
  20. A very old, very funny joke here...
  21. The lack of answers regarding the breeder of her Pom is concerning enough...
  22. You do understand that the concept of 'an for an eye' puts you into the same catagory for violence and abhorrent behaviour as the people committing crimes against animals and other people., don't you? (and saying you don't mean to be harsh but they should be killed really doesn't make sense)..
  23. I think I posted on your FB page Kristie, but if you need some big dogs for Miss T to feel safe with, Gen and Cords would adore her and give her a confidence boost.... you're welcome here any time
