  1. Just looking to see if anyone knows any groups around Nowra that rescue cats? Otherwise I will google and look up petrescue. Cheers.
  2. I have left this one alone. I hope he contacted the RSPCA. It was odd.
  3. Hi all, So I have just taken a brief call at work and thought I'd heard it all. A gentlemen called Peter has just rung me and asked if he could surrender a dog. I advised we were full but asked for more information (thinking I could help rehome etc etc). He then proceeds to tell me that his girlfriend has been having sexual relations regularly with her? dog since she was 16 - he only just found out apparently - recently the second time he caught her the dog had entered her from the back end and got stuck for 20 minutes after they "tied" so much so that it ripped her behind when the dog was pulled out (large breed) and she had to go to hospital to see someone. I won't go into detail any further because I am still honestly in shock and it is making me physically ill that I actually just heard the conversation I just did. Honestly for the first time in ages I didn;t know what to say except asked him had he contacted the RSPCA and how far did he want to take this? He said he would try them and hung up. After ideas on what I can do to help this poor mistreated dog, All I know is the guys name is Peter. He rang from a private number so number is not displayed. My thoughts are ringing the RSPCA to see what they can do and also hospital explaining the situation so that they may trace it back to a female consistent with that type of injury recently and investigate. Can police do a phone trace to my mobile? And would they? Really other than calling RSPCA and hospital does anyone here have any ideas? I have very little to go on at all. Honestly had I been prepared for the conversation and knew what was coming I would have agreed to take the dog and get it to the RSCPA. Andrea.
  4. Fundraising is a necessary part of a viable rescue but it should not be the focus of any group. I don't begrudge any group if they "make" a bit from some animals as others can severely drain funds beyond belief, especially if you have a run of sick animals. But if you have hardly any animals and keep raising money and already are quite financial then one has to wonder........................ Its your money. Ask questions to the group directly. Every group should be honest and is accountable about where their donations go and if they aren't or your not happy with the answer take your hard earned money where it might be appreciated. :-)
  5. Yes Maree $75 for a few hours from a person I know recently. Simple answer from me. A cat foster carer of mine got a pup recently and a visitor left the door ajar and in a split second puppy ran off. Tracked down at rspca within an hour or so as not far from there. I had to give her a lift there and it was only a matter of hours before I could get her and get there but same price.
  6. We are all busy with our own rescues like you and do what we can when we can. I didn't and couldn't take these kittens but neither did you or anyone else. It's not a competition about who has a bigger load in life or who does more. I am doing what I can. Stop judging others efforts and just get on with the job.... You clearly have your hands full with your trapping efforts.... So I am sure your energy can be put to better use.
  7. Wildthing I am assuming your continual digs at a group for taking kittens from a pound three hours away and taking some semi feral kittens is having a go at me. Not cool at all. You have no f***ing clue what I have or haven't been doing or why for last couple of weeks. I don't have time to go to into detail nor do I need to justify not taking those two six month old cats that I didn't have anyone for or know about because I was too busy dealing with other animals, pounds and issues while dealing with a very sick bub. I do my best, like everyone else. Have a nice day. Thanks for making mine after seeing this.
  8. Good on you for trying for her and also being upfront about her issue and prepared to do the responsible thing if it comes to it rather than her languish in kennels indefinitely. Will keep ears open and fingers crossed for something soon
  9. A quick but blurry photo of my mum holding him above - always on borrowed time when he is sleeping so just put something up quickly - never know how long I will get. Can't see it but he has red hair and blue eyes.....suits his Irish name. Cheers.
  10. Just saw this on my first visit to DOL it two weeks........very sweet of you Nina and everyone - thank you. Life is a bit like sleep when I can and if I'm lucky eat and shower at the moment. My poor dogs and cats are looking lost atm......life is hard but most of you who have had kids have been there and know what its like..... He is the most precious gift ever and I am lucky to have him........
  11. Have heard that next week (last week of this round of spey clinic) is booked out already - might be worth confirming/posting so that anyone trying to get into last week of this lot knows whether its an option or not.
  12. No worries - will add link and summary info to front of GRAS thread also later. Cheers.
  13. Simple answer - yes, your older dog can pick it up if it is in the environment and bring it home into your yard, house etc. There is alot of it around at the moment around NSW and ACT I am aware of, however I don't know how prevalent it is in your state or area. Where you buy your pup from, when they were weaned from their mother (maternal antibodies), their age and how many shots they have had etc etc will also denote how much protection your pup will have against anything your dog brings in if there is something nasty in the environment Hopefully you are going through a registered ethical breeder or rescue group who should be giving you a pup with at least one vaccination under its belt and clear health status/health check first...............in an ideal world it would be two or three vaccinations done and full immunity acquired.............but most people want pups less than 14-16 weeks old so there will be some risk in taking your pup or other dog in public until your pup has had its full course (2 or 3 vaccines depending on which vets you talk to and what age you give your first and second one etc). Good luck.
  14. Have put the two people together. They are having a meetup this week sometime. Fingers crossed it goes well. If it looks like going ahead, Heidi will go to her new owner in mid June when she will be having a few weeks off and will use the time to help her settle in and adjust to her resident cats and dog. Her current owner is happy to wait till then if it all goes to plan. Cross everything you have. Thanks again Brenda for your help with this.
  15. Again - thank you Brenda - I will followup your lead (when I leave work and can actually chase this option up) and go from there. Very much appreciated and hopefully it pans out.
  16. That is not entirely true and makes me sound ungrateful - which I am far from it. The initial info you provided me gave me the impression she was going to be living in a cat run permanently which for a cat used to being inside most of its adult life and around people, would likely not suit But you have since clarified it would be inside/outside setup and sounds like a good solution. Thank you. However, I won't nor should anyone else consider this sorted until I have a chance to speak to both owner and Wildthing's contact to ensure its all cemented. I never count my chickens prematurely........ Thanks again........... will followup when I can over the weekend.
  17. This cat is now dire: If anyone can help, please contact me asap - I am doing all I can to try and find a carer but we have had the worst run of ringworm in nearly all the kittens we have taken in since January and calcivirus in others so every single carer available has been tied up for months for each group/litter we get - treating and then finally rehoming them slowly and trying to get through the backlog of kittens we still have in temp care because of this.........let alone any cats. "Hi Andrea Well, it looks like we've come to the end of the road for poor little Heidi. She's been up on the website for about six months now and no-one has even visited her. Could you remove her from the website at the end of May? Once that is done I'll have to get the vet to put her down." She really is a lovely cat - and apart from getting blocked anal glands and some previous history with gingivitis is really a perfect cat...........not needy or clingy but is affectionate........... She has had enquiries but none have eventuated and its really hard for an adult cat with some health issues to compete with cute kittens at the best of times, let alone over kitten season. She is fully vetworked as expected - she is currently on our website for donation only but that is redundant for us, we just don't want to make her free to good home and attract people wanting her for the wrong reasons. All we want is for her to find the home she deserves. If you can help, please contact me asap - 0401 347 058. Thanking you, Andrea.
  18. Been thinking of you, mum and bubs all weekend. Hang in there matey - you are doing an amazing job! They only have a chance because of you and your hubby. Nothing but kudos and admiration from me for all you have done and are doing for them now. While we can't help physically in anyway, know that we are all behind you every step of the way and are crossing everything we have for this poor little family to thrive so they get to experience the joys of a loving and caring home of their own one day. Take care buddy.
  19. I think I was in touch with them once when they saved some kittens from Wagga some years back - but I just knew them as "Alphadog" - I helped them with a transport and to get them to their carer. I do know they used dogs in rescue situations etc........ they wanted to save some kittens on that particular occassion though although I know it wasn't the focus of the group. Memory foggy though as it was one short period of interaction several years back now.......... although the lady did seem lovely and what the group did sounded amazing at the time. People I would take my hat off to.
  20. 100% agreed - wtf is wrong with some people! Are we brainwashed with that much reality TV now that everyone is a spectator even when real shit is going down that they just watch it?! 100% agreed - me too What a charming sentiment! All for one and one for none! It beggars belief that someone would stand by and not only do nothing but film it while someone is screaming out for help! Absolutely he is justified in being upset no-one nearby help! I would be livid........his injuries could have been even less if more people got involved earlier on......... Its one thing if you are frozen with fear and can't get over there to physcially help but at least seek help one way or another - getting others to help, calling police, rangers, anyone...........don't just stand there like a spectator filming it all! If those dogs pulled that guy to the ground and killed him do you think the grieving family would rather the evidence to help prosecute the person who owned those dogs even if they track them down and get their dogs euthanised and give them a measly prison sentence if really lucky or have someone not get the evidence on film and possibly help save their beloveds life instead??! Shame shame on anyone who witnessed this (including the son if that's the case) and did nothing or worse still filmed it.
