  1. Could Somebody please explain on here for me and others, why some WSSDs can be shown and why some can not. Maybe Fanuilos or Saffioraire? I know it has something to do with bloodlines. Speak to me like an idiot because i've had it explained to me before by a friend with a handsome WSSd and I still havent grasped it!

Are those who are importing the breed, collaborating with each other to import lines that will not be too close to each other?

  2. Each to their own. I love dogs and kids!

Some kids are revolting, others are lovely. It's the same with dogs, some breeds I love, some i would never own if it was the last breed on earth!

I completely understand why some women don't want to have children. I completely understand why some women go to the ends of the earth to have children.

There are plenty of women out there who have kids who NEVER should have.

It's all personal choice. Nobody should be judged or made to feel inadequate or guilty because of that choice.

  3. Can you have Iggys and Whippets running together or are they at risk of being "hunted" in a chase or bowled over and injured?

Can you have Iggys on acreage, following you around, or will they break too easily running on uneven ground, over logs and rocks etc?

  4. Yes my girls have stated here too, it's lovely and so are the owners.

I use Hey You Pet Resort in Canning Vale, they are fantastic!! My dog is DA and they have no qualms with having her there and never had any issues. The kennel is kept at a great standard too.

  5. My biggest concern when boarding my dogs is their comfort! I always worry that they are not warm enough in winter and cool enough in summer. Being inside dogs, id like them to have a nice soft bed with their own blankets and toys. I recently boarded them at a kennel that wouldnt allow me to leave their toys and bedding which i didnt like much. I worry that they are not protected enough from the elements such as wind and rain. Although most kennels have an undercover area for the dogs, it never seems enough to protect them fully. It would be nice if they could have a little "indoor" part that they could get into and snuggle away.

But then I have Whippets, other breeds might not need this!

Larged grass areas for them to run is also a great idea too.

  6. So, hypothetically, if my dog bit my child unprovoked, I would euthanase it. I'm sure that even though that is a hypothetical scenario, I too would be judged severely, because although hypothetical, it is what I would do! Im guessing the people who would save a dogs life over a childs, would be the people who would be outraged that I would euthanse my dog instead of putting my child up for adoption! ;)

I find it fascinating that people seem to so happily judge someone over a hypothetical scenario that they are either crazed psychopaths who should never have children, or socially inept loners who will only ever have their dog for companionship.

  7. Agreed Willow. I haven't read the whole thread so i'm not sure who said they would do such a stupid thing, but you are an idiot and to say you would leave a child in a burning house to save your dog is not only morally reprehensible but criminal. I sincerely hope you never have children. NO dogs life should come before that of a child, anyones child.

To be honest, I think you said it to gain a reaction, because I really don't believe anyone would save a dog first over a baby. Or maybe I am a bit naive and there are more psychopaths like you than I realised!

I had to come back again and reply again.....I am so utterly appalled, disgusted and shocked that someone could leave a child to die....as the mother of an almost 2 year old, and a 4 month old, the thought that someone could watch my children dying, go "nah, **** 'em, get the dog instead" makes me want to vomit. I love my animals, but they do not rank above the life of a child. ANY child, be they mine or a strangers.

Someone who could do that does not deserve to call themselves human.

  8. Exactly! The dog was clearly stressed too. The owner had a good hold of him so I'm not sure why he would be fined, the woman went into the dogs space, what else was he surposed to do. Hopefully the silly cow will see the error of her ways and admit fault so the dog is left alone!

Poor dog. Why would anyone put their nose on the nose of a strange dog? Many dogs would snap in this situation. It was a warning snap not an attack and perfectly normal dog behaviour.

  9. Personally I don't feed anything to my dogs or bitches in the way of suppliments when they are breeding.

I just believe in giving a good healthy diet.

As I feed raw with the addition of some dry, I feel the dogs are getting an adequate diet.

The last 3 litters were all fed the same way and it resulted in

    Litter 1. 10 pups

    Litter 2. 8 pups

Litter 3. 4 pups = different smaller breed.

Thanks Oakway. Yes I agree, feeding the diet you do would be adequate. I have never been one to oversupplement in the past, nor treat with prophylactic ABs either, but Ive had a couple of problems and wondered if supplementing would help. Having said that, I havent had a litter for a long time.

Im a bit wary with any supplements, especially ones that mess around with thyroid function. So I think Ill give the Sea Kelp a miss.

  10. Interested to hear the answer on this one. Plan to breed my girl later in 2012 with imported semen, so want to do everything I can to help make it successful and was thinking about this product as I remember reading about it on here. Can someone please tell me where I can get it from?

Frozen Puppies made it Kaffy, but from memory they dont do it anymore? I got this bottle second hand from a breeder/DOLer on here.

  11. I bought a bottle of Boost Ya Girls up from a DOLer but it doesn't say when to start using it on the bitch. Does anyone know?

I have also used Sea Kelp in bitches before their season starts, can I use this still with the BYGU or would it be a bit of over kill?!

  12. Blues and fawns tend to be what the general public want in whippets. Yet you rarely see a solidblue in the ring and not a lot of solid fawns either. Solid black is another color that doesn't do well in the ring for some reason snd I get a lot of puppy enquiries for black too.

Personally I love the black brindle or mahogany brindle parti colours and I've always wanted a red and white parti! What colour do I always end up keeping? Solid brindles!

  13. Hiya, im looking at buying a large kennel run. Can anyone please recommend brands and where can i buy them? I am in Perth. I have seen the Kramar and Petsafe runs, but im unsure where is the best place to source them from.

    Thanks :)

  14. What?! She was non awarded? She is stunning!! How very bizarre?! It was quiet and lifeless last year too :-(

Hope the BOB winners enjoy the worm tablets they're offering as the prize this year  (Though I have to say, it is nice to have SOME form of sponsorship this year. I'm not ungrateful. But worm tablets are a bit...unglamorous! And wI'm not sure Fionni will be thrilled with his prize when it's shoved down his throat )

Just a weird day overall. There were hardly any dogs there and the hall felt empty and lifeless - not to mention stinking hot and stuffy. Judging was all done before 12pm, which made for a very long afternoon. The usual interesting judging decisions - including my own bitch, who was non-awarded! Interesting decision - and interesting reason given by the judge, since she was a two-times European specialty winner  Oh well. Luck of the day, I guess!

No break given to exhibitors over lunch, so the public were there ALL day. Of course, having Irish Setters, that meant dealing with the "they're so stupid!" comments non-stop...which wears VERY VERY thin after the 200th time...

Also, the only warning we had to get ready for judging was the final, "Get to the ring now!" call. Which of course happened while my husband and child were next door in another pavilion. Standing there with two ungroomed dogs, no leads, no numbers, and no handler...a bit stressful. Big thanks to SparkyTansy for all her help...and for nearly having to step into the ring in her civvies to handle my hastily dog lol

Anyway, back on Saturday for BIG with my boy, so we get to enjoy it all over again!

Best of luck to everyone today and for the rest of the week.
