  1. I don't think they are very overweight... I have seen some greyhounds and think "geez, thats not 'fitness' thin-ness (racers), thats a skinny pet" Pets don't do anywhere NEAR the amount of exercise as the racers do and to keep them as thin on the muscle as racers isn't doing them any favours. (I.M.O.) I would say my guys are more plump than fat... admittedly, the ACT pet greyhounds I have seen are MUCH skinnier than the vic ones I've seen. I took some pics today, I dunno if you can see, but look at how well they are doing on their little diet!
  2. My blackdog ones. They are a year old in that pic. They still look goooood huh???? Look how happy Radar is to wear it
  3. Mine are blackdog ones. They look good for ages too, none of that 'tired' collar look.
  4. 1/2 cup of pellets, 1/2 cup of veg and a fist sized blob of meat tonight. We all did a bit more exercise too. I tied a stuffy to a string and ran around while they tried to get it. PHEW! I'm stuffed. They seem happy enough. Is it silly to say I think the results are showing already? I see ONE rib!.............Sometimes
  5. I'd love to swap to roo but this is a small town, the butchers don't stock it and the nearest OTHER butchers is 100kms away  I think I'll continue with the cup of dry less and see what happens. If it doesn't work after a few weeks, I'll switch to lite food... and if THAT doesn't work, they'll get less again. They still came up for lovey cuddles today after I got home from work so they still love me
  6. I can't be brutal with my wussies! They are toooooo spoilt. I don't mind slow results. Its probably best that they are slow or my OH will start fattening them up again!
  7. Well, their dry food was cut by 1/2 cup last night and I only gave them 1/2 this morning instead of a full cup too  I feel like a meanie. I have to do it when OH isn't here because he thinks they are fine. Lucky I'm the one in charge of feeding everyone... or unlucky... they wouldn't have gotten in this state in the first place if I wasn't feeding them! I'll have to post an updated pic in a couple of weeks won't I? Do you think cutting back a cup of dry food (the regular stuff, not the lite or working dog stuff) will be sufficient to see results? They are now on: 1/2 cup of dry food for breakfast 1/2 cup of dry, 1/2 cup of veg and <500g pet mince for dinner
  8. I know! I look at them and think "I wish!"
  9. I'm thinking I'll just swap to 'lite' dog food to keep them at a steady weight noisy. I don't mind non-toned, pet greyhounds looking a bit chubby and happy... hell, I'm the same way, not unhealthy but too chubby if you looked at my BMI These guys will NEVER look like a grey in training because they don't do anything! If I tried to make them look that way, they'd be starving. They just don't have the muscle tone. OH says they are good, I'm the one worried about their weight!
  10. nor would I! they should lose a bit naturally over summer, they usually do. If anyone has a dog needing fattening, send 'em here.
  11. here ya go! Also taken tonight. The cat isn't fat, he's just a really big cat... seriously! No, really!
  12. I think a bit of chub is okay for a pet, I'm not to much a fan of the boney, muscley look (have you met my OH??? like I can talk!)... I'm just having trouble deciding if they are TOO chubby.
  13. Oh geez... you gotta look at the piccies first!
  14. I just posted new piccies of them tonight and made a poll... you get to vote if you think they need a diet  http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?showtopic=78075
  15. Gingko and Radar tonight Gingko doesn't like the camera. Gee their coats look good though, don't they?
  16. They'll be okay. I just fed them. 1/2 cup of kibble (which I'll change to lite kibble when I get to the store) 1/2 cup veg and 300g meat each I also smooshed it over the bottom of the dish so they'd have to lick around to get it out, instead of eating great lumps quickly. They will be fine. Its me you'll have to worry about, I'll be feeling down and out for a few weeks because I can't spoil them as much as I want to Maybe more cuddles will make up for it
  17. So only 500g of meat and a cup of veggies ONLY for dinner????
  18. I'll give it a go... The weird thing is, Gingko (the white one) is almost right, he has a couple of vertebrae and some ribs, all he does is a little walk and sleeps all day... Radar is the chubby-bubby and he is the one who runs and runs like a loon!
  19. They don't need to lose a HUGE amount because they are big boys and I like to have them one or two kg over racing weight anyway. Here's the daily diet (this amount each): Breakfast: 1 cup of dry food OR 2 chicken necks Dinner: 1 cup dry food, 1cup veg, 500g pet mince. Twice a week I substitute the veg in dinner for either 1 egg, 1 cup cooked pasta, 1 cup cooked rice I am working on recall so they get about 5 small cbit (1cm sized) liver treat per day.
  20. Here are their before and after shots: This is what they looked like when I got them
  21. Its not that I don't want to use any of the advice... I just want to find the right one for us. I KNOW my dogs are fatties, OBVIOUSLY I'm doing something wrong at the moment, I'm just trying to find out how I can get over it with the least emotional scarring to my boys (and me! )
  22. They are always hungry... I don't want to cut down the amount they eat, just start them on a low fat version. Someone suggested Swapping the kibble for boiled cabbage but I think that'd make them farty!
