Morning Dols
I have a problem with my 8 yr male mini daccy , 1 month ago I went away for 12 days and boarded my 2 daccys , Ever since then he has been unbearable whinging & whining when he gets into his crate at bed time ,he will cry for a couple of hours, I try very hard to ignore it but its all too much and end up putting him in my bed where he seems quite happy ,Given he's 8 yrs old and never done anything like this before , I also realise I'm giving in to him putting him in my bed
sometimes he will go to sleep and settle then about 1am will start his routine of whining can anyone help with suggestions of what i can do
ps
He is usually a very well behaved boy, and he's not cold as he's got warm blankets
many thanks

Thanks again everyone for your kind wishes
Vet still thinks she's ok with the injection vit K, and without vit K tabs ?, Just rest and a watchful eye on her , It may have helped that she did pass a chuck of the stuff in her poo on sunday morning

She should really be on a course of vit K, by the time she shows symptoms it may be too late.
Can you check with your vet?
Vit K should be given for two weeks after confirmed ingestion.
Hi , Just to let you know that Miss Sally has already had an injection of vitamin K early saturday morning ,

Hope your dog will be ok.
I guess the vet told you to keep her quiet, and to avoid knocks/bumps /bruises? Also no hard bones etc which may cut gums...
AFAIK vit. K is given to HELP blood clot ... but it is still very wise to try & avoid injuries ...
Best of luck with the results :)
Thanks everyone ,I've just heard from the vet and she's ok with blood results within normal range, but I've still got to keep an eye on her and if she's shows any sign of illness she is to start a course of vitamin k tablets, and definatly no running around to avoid any injuries ,She's sulking in her create at the moment like there nothing wrong

That's awful. I've never been through it so can't offer any advice on that front but I'd be doing a very thorough search of your property to see if there's any more around before she comes home.
I have done a search and nothing was found, I havent got a large yard , the vet told me that sometimes birds pick the baits up and drop them or a bush rat has found it and taking it back to its nest, if I hadnt found the small piece in the kitchen , i never would have known she had eaten it , vet say's it takes 5 -7 days to go through her system

Hi Everyone
Has anyone's dog eaten rat bait and how was the outcome ?
My female miss Sally woke up early on saturday morning at 5am and wanted to go and pee
I let her out and when she came back in, she was chewing, didnt take much notice as i was half asleep but did say what are you eating, anyway we went back to bed , when i got up at 7.45am i noticed in the kitchen some blue stuff , and realised it was rat bait ,
got to the vet 8.15 where she was given a shot of vitiam k , to stop the blood from clotting and this morning she had a blood test, waiting on the results now should be in shortly
I dont know where the rat bait has come from but i'm pretty sure it wasnt there on friday afternoon cos i was in the garden
thanks and fingers xed

Hi everyone
My male long hair daccy is 7.1/2 yrs old and for the first time in his life , HAS FLEAS although not many at this stage, from ppl in the area ive spoken too say its a bad area for fleas
I have been using frontline plus for the last 2,1/2 months with another to be given shortly ,does this take a while to kill the cycle of fleas Or does this sound ok , poor bub is scratching like crazy
I have been washing his bedding and vacumming every 2nd day to eliminate any fleas in the house
any suggestions if i can do anything else for him
thanks

Hello everyone :D
Very excited here In my last post I mentioned to you that I'd changed his bedding to a pet futon mattress in his create , well what a difference for 2 nights he's been so good and back to normal without waking me up
I now think he was trying to get comfortable by fluffing around with his pillow , silly me I should have known what Daccys are like, they love there blanket and lots of comfort
Thanks again
Daccydog
...so now we can all get some sleep.... (it's an old joke)
thats so true , if only he could have told me he was uncomfortable in there with the crappy pillow he was on

Hi There
100% go for the create , the best thing is to start them off when puppies , so they know the rules or how its supposed to be

He's got no way to know the rules except by picking up patterns. If he's allowed back in the bed at 1am, then clearly this must be within The Rules :D
I only recently started letting my girl sleep on the bed, but the only rule is 'you're only allowed on the bed when I'm in bed'. She's picked this up better than i had hoped, to the extent that she will jump off the bed if I get up to go to the bathroom and wait on her own bed until I get back in. I feel bad disturbing her for such a short outing but it means that the rule is clear and simple for her to understand :)
Also if I get up to let the dogs out in the middle of the night I won't look at them or talk to them, just open the door, wait, close the door and back to bed. That way there's no motivation for them to play at attention-seeking :)
Yes you are completly right and i know its my fault ,Just been too tired with him waking me up everynight, as the kids say TOO EASY !to put him into bed with me
Thanks guys for your tips

Does he sleep on your bed or under the blankets. Most dachies dislike neatness they like to burrow & hide under things ,they do like being with there humans & usually sleep like velcro dogs next to you .
I gather they are in sep crates ?? What happens if you put them in together ?
Ohhh you must of had a daccy at some time , yes velcro is my female.. whether this is right or wrong I let them stay with me in bed till 9.30 pm (i watch tv in my bedroom) then its out for a wee and in to there own bed , maybe i've got to change this habit ?
He likes to burrow under the doona , and is quite comfortable with legs up in the air ,
they have seperate crates a bit squezzy for the 2 to be comfy in, i would think 24"size anyhow i have just changed the bedding in his crate to a pet futon matress that is a lot more stable than the pillow he had previously , Now he will be able to scratch and fluff around till his hearts content
And yes I'm going win this battle as i really do know he is pulling the wool over my eyes true, ,
and i will close the door ....

Hello everyone :)
Your help is needed
I have two mini dachys , love them both to bits , The female loves her crate and will sleep in there all night no problems!!
the other one a male gets in his crate and scratches and fluffs around for ages then goes to sleep , then about 1am decides to start whinning crying etc, so I take him outside thinking he wants do a wee , yeap will do it , then races back into MY BED , snuggles down and everythings fine,.. of course, why wouldnt it be he has got HIS WAY , but its taken me a while to catch on hehehe and really its not funny, he's too smart ,
MY question is how can i break this Habit of what he's doing , I cant get back to sleep for ages and i'm tired
he has a pillow on the bottom of his crate ............? what does your dog sleep on if in a crate
please suggestions greatly appreciated
DACCYDOG the one with dark circles under her eyes and yawning all the time

Once the issues are fixed with AQIS, it will be no longer problematic. But they can't tell us how long, or, rather they can tell us when a container load is being 'released' but the reps aren't privy to what those containers have in them.
ChristineX - may be worth looking at Advance Turkey and Rice. Not a prescription diet but worth exploring.
Hills Science Diet Sensitive Skin still seems to be in supply also- we have no trouble getting that.
Just to add : I purchased a bag of royal canin sensible food yesterday and i think its done the trick , no vomiting, all poo"s looking good too

Z/d is still out unfortunately.
Which RC did you try? Hypoallergenic, Sensitivity Control, or Skin Support? They are all suitable for dogs with allergies and all have slightly different ingredients.
Otherwise if it's for a small dog, maybe roo, sweet potato and a vitamin supplement will see you through until it comes back.
Hi SnT
I purchased royal canin hypoallergenic, the vet assured me that it would be ok , unfortunately it wasn't to be , poor little man
I ended up buying RC mini and a tin of ZD food to mix in , so far he's been ok so fingers crossed till ZD comes back on to the shelf

Is anyone else having this problem buying science diet zd ultra dog food , this is the only food that my boy can have and i've had such a problem getting it , the vet suggested buying royal canin prescipt, but this doesnt agree with him and made him vomit
I haven't been on here a while due to moving , so apologies if anyone else has put the same topic on

Down the hill and slightly across country to Dr Karen Hedberg at North Richmond. About 15 -20 minutes by car. Great vet, very sensible and really caring.
Thankyou

Morning all
I took my 2 dogs to the dog park yesterday afternoon , there were a few newbies there that had no manners, and it occurred to me about DOGS body language and how little i knew about it
for instance there was a newbie there that was being very cautious and his/her tail was pointed straight out ? just wondering if that meant anything
can you let me know different signs of body language and what it all means ,
many thanks

I've often wondered if it would be better to feed my two in the morning instead of the evening as then they have time to do all there business/poop during the whole day ,instead of a six oclock run in the morning to do poop's ?especially as i crate one of mine

I tried supercoat with my mini daccy, (and she would eat just about anything ) the only problem i found is that she did massive piles of poo several times a day
:D , so it was back to royal canin with nice little poos
