  1. Morning Dol's

I take my two dogs for a walk every morning and evening

i have a 3yr old and a 11month old, 3yr old is perfect will walk next to me and obeys any commands

BUT the 11 month old pulls and pulls on her lead, which makes it very hard to walk the two of them

i have taken her to obedeince school, but she broke her leg during this time and have started back this week

i might say she is a hand full at the best of times

do you have a suggestion on how to overcome the lead situation

    thanks daccydog

  2. As this dog needs to lose more than 25% of it's body weight, I'd be cautious about too much exercise.

Halve the food. The faster the weight comes off the better. Up the walks as he get's closer to 6kg. If you can swim him (do Dacchies swim?) I'd be doing that.

Word your family up big time..... absolutely no treats. You'd be horrified how many dog's diets are sabotaged by well meaning family members and friends.

    thanks poodle fan

yes there has definatly been some sabotage here from well meaning guests and family who all love him dearly anyWay i have SPOKEN :D

  3. Hello everyone

well i'm back with a different story to tell and hoping a kind doler can give some ADVICE

My 3yr old mini daccy now weighs 7kgs ( breed weight is 4.5kg to 5kgs) i think he is more like a 5.5kgs as what i can remember his mother was a bigger girl too, in his defence we also have a nine month old puppy, and they were swapping over with there food bowls ,and eating the puppy food

Anyway the vet said, tooo big lose some of it , which i certainly agree with as extra weight on a daccy is no good :o

he suggested just give him hills science kibble the light one HUMMMMMM?

Well i usually feed raw meat, vegs , and bones , so to go on kibble is not his thing and refuses to eat it

But what do i do ,

    suggestions will be much appreciated

    thanks daccydog :)

  4. I have an elderly dog and I used to feed him once a day but found he does much better health wise by splitting the meal. He only gets something small in the morning but it's much better than him vomiting up yellow bile.

    hi sheridan

my older dog 3yrs somtimes vomits up yellow bile , is this because he's hungry and nothing in his tummy ?

  5. please be careful.... you cant just give him new food especially if he's on insulin .. it all has to be controlled by the vet ,, meaning insulin and food working together..too much food and he may have higher blood sugar readings, which will result in weight loss

if your not happy with your current vet , change him and find a vet that knows about diabetes in animals

    goodluck

  6. G/day everyone

My 16week old puppy has been trying to eat pebbels/rocks, and as i've got a back yard full of them i'm wondering if any one has some hints to overcome this situation, she is like a vacum cleaner anything on the ground anywhere she picks up and tries to chew, she has a kong which she chews and other assorted toys to entertain herself, here's hoping someone can help

    thanks daccydog

  8. Hello again

I have posted before, a while ago , about my male dog 18mth old( MINI DACHSHUND)

and his dreadful eating habits, by this i mean very fussy

when i brought him the breeder said he was eating dried food mixed with little chicken or beef

yeah sure... no way would he have a bar of any sought of dried food

I have persevered and at times he's driven me mad, he has no problem eating chicken necks, chicken carcass, wont have a bar of lenards pets mince, will eat beef or thigh chicken with white rice & vegs mixed in , i put yoghurt in he's ok .... always worry if he's getting enough "" of the good stuff "'to help with his well being,

I have also bought countless bags of expensive dried food to entice him to eat .... then about a month ago I brought a bag of royal canin ...would you believe he actualy eat a couple of busciuts , amazing, but not enough for a meal. i've also heard a dog wont go hungry ,, well he has gone hungry many a time ... can anyone suggest any thing on this very fussy boy

SORRY ABOUT THIS POST AGAIN ... I'VE NOW FIGURED IT OUT , ( some mothers do have them)

  10. Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding glucosamine tablets or the powder form,

I've just come from the vet (on a unrelated problem and come away with this)

he has suggested that I get my mini daccy on a natural joint supplement as a preventived for the risk of arthritis, he is 2yrs old and has a patella problem, he suggested sasha's blend, (that was the only one on the shelf) has anyone else got a formula that they use, that's as good or even better, i know very little of these formula's, is powder form easier than tablets

    Many thanks
