I feed one of my dogs Eukanuba FP Reponse, which is one of the veterinary Eukanuba foods. He does very well on it.

This is not necessarily the case with PLN. The mode of inheritance is unknown.

Gomez, if the dog is losing protein from the kidneys, it will likely be protein losing nephropathy (PLN). If the loss is from the intestines, it will be protein losing enteropathy (PLE). Unusual to have a non-wheaten terrier suffering from a PL disease. If it's PLE, it's likely the dog has suffered from intestinal bowel disease or some other illness that has damaged the intestinal lining and then developed into PLE. PL diseases are eventually fatal but if caught early enough can be managed for a long time with diet. Clinical signs (PLN): * Listlessness/ depression * Decreased appetite, vomiting, weight loss * Ascites, edema, pleural effusion * Increased water consumption * Increased urination (less common) * Thromboembolic phenomena & hypertension (less common) Clinical signs (PLE): * Vomiting * Diarrhea * Weight loss * Ascites * Edema * Pleural effusion Not all dogs will show all these signs. The following tests should be done and they should *all* be done: 1. Biochemical profile, including: * Total protein (TP) * Albumin (Alb) * Globulin * Creatinine (Cr) * Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) * Cholesterol (Chol) * Sodium (Na) * Potassium (K+) * Phosphorus (Phos) 2. Complete Blood Count 3. Routine Urinalysis, including: * Specific gravity * Dipstick * Urinary sediment 4. Urine Protein/Creatinine Ratio 5. RECOMMENDED but OPTIONAL: * ERD or MA test for microalbuminuria. If doing UPC, these tests are not necessary. 6. RECOMMENDED but OPTIONAL: * Fecal API test The relevant information for testing, even if the dog is not a wheaten, is on the American wheaten club website. My wheaten died of PLN two years ago.

I only use it for treats and very little at a time. It's 30 per cent fat. My dogs love it but it's really too expensive to use as a main food.

As I have dogs prone to sebaceous cysts, I tend to wait unless the lump looks like it's growing. If the dog is not prone I'd be heading off to the vet.

Unfortunately, the problem stems from next door. This isn't my dog I'm talking about, however (in either household!).

In terms of protein, it's good quality protein that counts rather than the amount.

Sorry - still confused! I pay $500 a year and get up to $12,000 a year in cover ($6k accident/ $6k illness). This would mean me paying $1,000 a month into an account to equal the level of cover that my insurance provides. One of my dogs is ineligible for insurance and the other has no health issues thus far. Insurance is fine if you can afford the premium upfront. I can't.

Instead of buying insurance, I pay into the vet's account each fortnight.

Are the ones you groom Irish coated? one is but the other 3 arent. they are lovely dogs all of them! ps i dont think you were bitchy at all in your question... Because if the groomer is unfamiliar with a breed then perhaps, just maybe, the person who owns the dog might know more. I've not met a groomer yet who has even asked me the best way to groom my dogs and some who, on being told the best way have said, 'That's not how we do it here.' She didn't go out of her way to respond (other than saying she'd do a show clip, which isn't what I asked). She showed a complete contempt for people who provide notes on how to groom their dogs. So what if they provide notes? Just what is the big deal if they do? At least they care. She thinks they're fools.

But not 25 years of respect for clients, the people who actually give gashmir a living. And now, after I've pointed out that he/she is just rude about those clients, she gets all hysterical and calls me a troll. Hmmm.

You think your clients, the people who do nothing more than make a list of items that they'd like you to cover in their dog/s grooming, are fools and liars? Given the first post of yours I responded to, all I was after from you was what you'd do in grooming a wheaten. Needless to say, your responses have revealed that those clients aren't clueless but perhaps their groomer is.

It's a wonder you actually have clients given your contempt of them. Thriving for 25 years! I keep other local groomers business cards by the door, ready to hand to painful people. Can't please everyone and i simply don't need the business. Fascinating. You must be a very good actor. ETA. Noted that the contempt wasn't denied.
