  1. Bugger Kelly :D I was really hoping that it would have fully healed for poor little Chloe - as i am sure you were too!!!!! It must be that she is an older dog did the vet give any reason as to why it may be taking a little longer than usual??? Poor old Chloe - hopefully the wait will not be too much longer. At least there is a difference between the two x-rays so something is going on down there! That walk in the park will have to wait a little longer.....poor you and poor Chloe she must be hanging out to get to the park!! Fingers still crossed for you guys that it wont be too long, hang in there Kelly i know you must be devestated, but it can't be long now, and it was only 5 weeks since the last lot of x-rays, so maybe in another 3 weeks it will be fully healed. I am worried now that Mallee wont have healed either, i so hope that she has!!! Last night when she was lying down i had my hand on her rump and i could feel something moving in there - i told Brock and he told me to stop being so fussy over her, and reckons that i check her out too much, just let her go, but its really hard not to look for things when its been such a long time of things just going wrong. Well i must love and leave you. Chin up Kel i am sure she will be OK give her a big pat and hug from me and Mallee and have one for yourself also. I will try and post how Mallee goes tommorow night if not Friday till then take care. :D Antoinette
  2. Hey Kelly! Sending you and Chloe lots of wishes of good luck and lots of :D ;) ;) :D I know too well how you are feeling but we both have to stay positive!!! IT WILL BE GOOD NEWS.... i have everything crossed for you and so does Mallee. Mallee goes in on Thursday for her x-rays, so you must also cross your fingers for her!!!! I will be online tomorrow so will keep checking to see how you go, but will be off-line Thursday - damm- but hopefully will know by tomorrow afternoon how Chloe went otherwise i will be worring about you guys till Friday!!.....lol.....i am hopeless!! Will also update you with Mallee's result then if not Thursday night. Well - i jinxed Mallee yest after saying she has been going so well - we (Brock and I) came home from work for lunch yest, as we come home everyday so we can take her to the toliet etc, and found poor Mallee cowering in the corner of her cage, at first did not know what was wrong with her until we walked right into the lounge room........i have never seen a mess like it before.......excuse the language but there was shit everywhere....poor girl had had diahorrea really bad - she must have hung on for us long as she could but to no avail as it was not only all through her cage, but all over the carpet up the curtains all over her blankets all over the side of the cage.......... Poor little girl thought she was in so much trouble, i felt so bad for her that we had not been home to help her but we cannot be home all the time - so the lunch break was spent comforting Mallee, well Brock was, and i had the lovely task of cleaning up the lounge room. Since the op Mallee seems to have a very sensitive tummy and we had given her a denture bone treat that morning - one with beef flavour in the middle - it must not have agreed with her at all. Anyway enough of that - i will be thinking of you tomorrow Kelly - good luck with it - try not to worry too much think good things - as they say all good things come to those who wait - and we know that we have been waiting a long long time so it has to happen soon. Take care and i will check on you tomorrow. Give Chloe a big big hug for me.!!. Antoinette ;)
  3. Hello All, Corine - i hope Duncan is doing a little better, poor boy losing all that weight! You must be worried, try to stay postive, do you know when you will get some specific results yet, hoping for you that the wait wont be too long, nothing like waiting for results its a killer!! You must have great patience to get a litre of water down his gob with a syringe!!!....lol...now that would have been a sight, I can only imagine the struggle. We had a good weekend, Mallee seems to be progressing really well. Brock took her for a walk around the back yard on Saturday with no sling, and i couldn't believe it but she went to the toliet for number 1s and 2s all by her self with no sling, funny the things we get exicted over, this was a first for Mallee since the op, we have let her go with very little support but never with no sling at all!!! Mallee was of course so pleased with herself, trotting around with her tail up in the air saying "look at me, look at me" . The only thing now is that when ever she comes out of the cage she will not let you put the sling on, turns it into a big game, and when you do get it on her she constantly swinging around trying to chew on it. So heres hoping things are well on the way to improvement!! Her walking is really great at the moment, if anything she is gaining too much confidence and trying to do to much to quickly. Its getting harder and harder to get her into the cage when its time, so these all must be postive signs. The only thing worring us know, is when she comes out of the cage for good, what a stress that is going to be, but, we have to give her a chance and we have to be prepared that she probably will hurt herself now and again, and there will be nothing we can do about it. Next thing to work out is how to slow her down, our surgeon reckons we will need to tie bricks around her neck ....lol..... i don't even think that would help!!! She is just so full of puppy energy!!! Anyway i hope you all had great weekends also! Will have to post some updated pics soon, good luck this week Kel with Chloe's x-rays - we are thinking of you!! Antoinette
  4. YAYY!! Its so great to hear that everyone (everypup) is going well :D, but poor Duncan i hope he gets his tummy sorted out soon and that its nothing to serious!! Thoughts are with you Corine let us know how he goes. Well done Stella - hope she gave them a real scare so they don't come back! Mallee licked opened a hole in her scar not so long ago which we presumed was an internal stitch - it healed up well with time, but look iccky for a while. Mallee is doing so well at the moment, it is so tempting just to let her of the lead while she is inside and calm, but, we know we can't not until the next set of x-rays at least. I only wish though she would calm down a bit, she is only a pup so is handling it as well as can be expected!! She is still chasing (well tries to) cabbage moths, flies anything that moves so as we walk her around the yard i have to go on bug watch - trying to spot them before she does so we can change direction and go the other way, only problem is her eyesight is so dam good!!!!! She is constanly finding them. She has tried to do some pretty stupid things of late, last night while she was investigating the house - something that makes her so happy, as she has not been down the hallway in 4 mths as we only started letting her go down there this week, she tried to jump up on the spare bed both front legs up on it - scare the begezzers out of me and i quickly supported her while i lowered her down. When she is out of the cage and gets excited she tries to do zoomies around the lounge - so glad she is on the lead - she is rolling around every where lies on the lounge room floor with all four legs sticking straight up in the air and wriggles then she gives you this look of "look what i can do" She is sooo cheeky!!! Anyway its just so good that all our pups are doing well, fingers crossed it continues this way - onward and upwards.....lol..... I'am dreading next week and looking forward to it at the same time, Mallee goes in for her x-rays, I am anxious to see if she has fully healed, she would have to have wouldn't she its been 18 weeks on Tues!!! Also worried about what Brock will say if the surgeon says she has to spend any more time in the cage, but will deal with that when it happens, no use worrying about it now, hey?? Hope you all have a good weekend with your families and furkids - I might even take Mallee out past the front gate for a little look tonight if she is calm enough, which i doubt! Antoinette. P.S I have finally found someone that had a dog that had the same op as Mallee and it lived to be 9 with no problems what so ever, just like a normal dog - so that has really made my day, as one the hardest thing Brock and I have felt is not knowing what she will eventually be like, so fingers crossed for a good result next week.
  5. Hey Kelly - Just wondering how Chloe was and whether you have booked her in for her x-rays yet or whether she has already had them. Mallee is going great guns, which is excellent. Either next week or the week after she will be having her x-rays. We have been walking her more and she has already developed some more muscle which is just excellent, only problems is we are having trouble trying to slow her down as she feels so bloody good. Oh well thats the least of the problems, just glad she is happy. Antoinette
  6. Thanks for the update Kim - hope all goes well with surgery on Wednesday! Fingers and paws crossed for you guys
  7. Hey Koza - how Stella going?? Well i hope. Mallee was on morphine while in hospital - and it was terrible she looked all sunken in and drolling everywhere, almost frothing at the mouth - she was constantly wet it was HORRID. They everntually took her off the morphine and put an opiate (spl) collar on her which was similar but did not have the side effects that morphine does. Glad that that part of it all is all over.
  8. Hey Kim - Welcome to DOL i hope you can find all the info you need here and if not just post and i am sure someone will be able to help you out!! As for your neighbours dog - poor thing!! I have never heard of Prolet - Mallee was only ever on Rimadyl or Carporfen. It could possibly be a side effect to the anasetic (spl) that they would of given when she had the x-rays done. If you or your friend are really concerned you should phone the vet that did the x-rays and ask them about it. Sorry i can't really help you much - you could try doing a goggle search on the Prolet and see what comes up there and possible side effects. Pls keep us post as to how it all goes. Antoinette
  9. You are a champ Kelly Don't know what i would have done without you and the others on this now very long post!!! Mallee has built up some muscle tone, not quite as much as we would have like but she is getting there i suppose. The hard with with Mallee is that she is still just a pup, and we therefore don't really get many "quite" times with her - its always 100% go go go......We had her out last night in the lounge room and she just did not want to sit down, which i suppose is understandable as thats all she does, sit and lie down - she spotted her ted and that was it basically dragged me across the lounge into the dining room to get her ted and kill it......i had to laugh but Brock freaked out as she got hold of it and just shock the poor teddy bear to death. I told him to relax she will be ok as Iam sure if it hurt her to do that she would stop, but to see the smile on her face was fantastic!!! She is slowly being able to be a bit more of a real dog again, but i can't help but feel sorry for her at times. I am anxiously waiting for the next xrays - the count down is on. I can't wait for the day that i can take her out of the front gates for a short walk down the road. I must admitted the times i find it the hardest is when i see people, usual when i am driving home from work, walking all their dogs, and i cant help but think "do they know how lucky there are"!!!!!! ONe day soon i am sure we wil all be taking our little ones for walks again - i can not wait for that day!!!!! Will try and post some pics soon of Mallee being a smarty pants and walking around the lounge room with no sling Wooo Hooo Have a good day all Antoinette
  10. triple post - sorry guys don't know what happened there?????
  11. Yaay for Stella - glad to hear that she is doing well.!!!! How have you built the muscle back up - with swimming or walking? Just wondering as we are at the stage with Mallee that we have to start to really build up her muscles in the hinds legs in preparation of her hopefully finally coming out of her cage, we have done some swimming and she gets lots of on leash and sling walks around the back yard, but we have been wondering what way is best to get the muscle built back up swimming or walking?????
  12. Hey Kel, Mallee has the same thing on one of her hind leg scars - right at the top of the scar there is a lump and a bit of a skin tag - its like when he stitched her back up he miss aligned the skin so its not even - if you know what i mean!!! Gees these things are hard to explain!! I might have to take a photo of it....lol.... Anyway, sometimes if you touch it Mallee will give you an awful look and occassionally she will spin around and start chewing at it or licking it. Also not long after the op she had another smallish lump that was circular and really hard - i mentioned them both to the surgeon and he told me not to worry about it - the first one is like i said misaligned and the second one was an internal stitch that the body would eventually absorb! So hopefully fingers crossed this is also what has happened to Chloe. I would properly say that it is scar tissue - do you massage her scars often. Mallee's were alot bigger and raised until we started massaging them as often as we could and they are shrinking well. If you are really worried make sure you bring it up at your next appt - and make sure he sees you this time!!!!!! Anyway must go and finish of my work for the day otherwise i will be joining the dole que. Hugs to you and Chloe - i am sure she is fine. Keep me posted - and post some more pics of your beautiful girl. Antoinette xo
  13. Hi Karma - Welcome to DOL Sorry about your baby - i hope all goes well and that something can be done. Have you tried doing a search in the Health Section as there are quite a few post on cancer in dogs - and i think i can remember one about bone cancer. Maybe you should speak to your vet about seeing a specialist - they might be able to give you a second opinion and more info and what can and can't be done. I really feel for you it's so hard to know what to do in these types of situations. Hang in there and keep us posted. Sending healing thoughts your way.
  14. Hi Kelly - Hi All Glad to hear Chloe is doing well, although a little less running might make you fell a bit better. I know the feeling all too well, it must be something in the air as Mallee has been running flat out also. Trying to stop her from running seems to be more exhausting, and makes her play up more than just letting her have her silly little runs. Mind you, it is quite hard to control her when she goes off on one of her cabbage moth chases!!!! Trying to hang onto the sling is a real task!!!.....lol....... we must look quite strange to our neighbours. We have had no more problems with Mallee, and are tending to think that she did strectch her syatic nerve again the last time she went swimming, the rest seems to have done her the world of good, and we are thinking of taking her again as soon as she comes off heat......hoping that is soon!!!! But next time we go swimming not as many laps. Mallee is due i think in about 2-3 weeks for her xrays (i wont say final as the last time was suppose to be final) - and i know to how you are feeling, i have decided the easiest thing to do is go in expecting that her pelvis has not healed yet, as then i will not be too disappointed if its the case, also been trying to get Brock to think that she may not be able to come straight out of the cage, as he has his heart set on her being able to come out of the cage full time after the next lot of x-rays. WOW i think we will know what stress is when she is out of the cage full time...... Anyway glad for the update Kel - i had better get back to work and do something - 10am and i have not even started.....lol...... Keep us posted Antoinette.
  15. Scat - where did you get the caps from - we have Mallee currenlty on Cosequin - but the powdered horse form as thats what our specialist recommended as he reckons its better than the Cosequin Dog Caps, but we are finding it too hard to get the correct dosage and are now wishing we just had of brought the capsules!!!!
  16. Hey Scat - if you wont to put your xrays on the forum - to do mine i just compressed the image in Microsoft office picture manger to under 40KB - if you don't have that program you can do it in paint by going to Image then sretch/skew and reduce it by 50% or whatever and resave until it under the 40KB. Did you work out the dosage for the Glucosaime??
  17. Hey Shoemonster, Hope all goes well with Eddie today - poor little fella, he has had a rough trot! Nothing worse than waiting around for vets to phone when you have a sick one..... ......... I watched a video of your guy i think it was Eddie - running into the pool - it was on the dogs in motion forum - if i am correct????????
  18. Not sure about the dosage Scat - who got you onto those tablets - if it was the vet ask them they should know the dosage!!
  19. Hi Kelly Well we are feeling alot better after the weekend and Mallee seems to be happier than she was last week - thank god. I think we both went into a bit of a panic considering that she has been doing so well, and then for a hiccup to come along it really gets to you. The surgeons don't seem to be worried so i suppose that is one thing. Both Brock and i feel that she may have restreched her syatic nerve in her right leg again as that was damaged when the pelvis collasped and was strechted during surgery. We were told after the last op that she would roll her right leg and not be able to life it as good as the left leg until it repairs itself. Up until last week she had been walking fine with no rolling in the right leg, but since Tuesday she has been rolling her foot abit again, so all things seem to suggest that that is what has happened!! I can be quite a worrier at times, and do seem to only see the bad in things at times, and i think last week i was just having one of those weeks were you look to much at the down side of things. So heres to fingers crossed that she will remain ok and happy, and not to jumping to the worst conclusions all the time......lol....... I think we are now going to give the swimming a bit of a rest until she is either 100% back to the way she was when she first started with the swimming or wait until we definatley have the all clear from her next x-rays, as we just can't risk her pelvis again. Its so hard to know what to do sometimes!!!!! Anyway take care of yourself and Chloe - thanks for the hugs. Hope all is well in your end of the woods.... Thanks for everything!!!!
  20. Hey Corine, Mallee has not been seen by a physio, but we have had permisson by our two surgeons for her to start swimming - it has been well over 3 mths since the op, so we needed to do something. We are thinking that maybe she has restreched her syatic (spl) nerve again - as this was streched and damaged when her pelvis collasped. See how she goes and if any more pain we will take her back to the Surgeons..........
  21. Just re-read my first post and realised i forgot to add that maybe it could be her syatic nerve (not sure if thats how you spell it) as that was stretched and damaged when her pelvis collasped. Not sure if that would cause her any pain or not.???? I am such a worry wort!!!!!!!!!
  22. Hi All, Just thought i would update you on Mallee. Not quite sure how i am feeling at the moment, well i am - I WISH this was all over and done with. Mallee has been coming along so well of late, and then all of a sudden something is wrong!!! We are not sure what is going on with her, besides driving us crazy!! We took Mallee swimming on Tuesday night - she had a lovely swim handled it well, although be bit tired, she seemed well and happy enough, until it was time to get her out of the car, which we have to use the sling for and have always done so. When Brock was getting her out of the car she let out one of those terrible screaming yelps, but was fine once back on the ground, then did the same thing getting up the front step. Obviously Brock and I both were a bit stressed by it all considering that since her pelvis collasped we have not heard any signs of pain at all from her even after all the ops. We let her lay down on the lounge room floor to have a rest thinking maybe her muscle were cramped or something gave her a massage and put her back to bed with no problems. She was up and about in the cage doing her normal dance routine (much to our disgust) and seemed fine until it was time to take her out of the cage for her last toliet break of the night, when she step out of the cage with Brock's arm resting underneath her belly (the step out is about 5-6cm off the ground) she let out another screaming yelp, but walked fine out to the back yard, squated to pee in the sling fine and went back to bed fine, stepping up into the cage with no pain???????? Its so hard to describe how we are feeling at the moment, so many things running through our heads, so we decided to phone the surgeon first thing the next day and ask if we could have the xrays done early (i think they are due in about 2-3 weeks) as we were wondering if one the screws may have backed completely out - Guy (our surgeon) did not want her to come in and told us not to worry unless she is in constant pain over the next few days as he does not want to keep putting her under for x-rays esp if they show the pelvis has not fully healed yet and she would then have to go under again in another couple of weeks.........He said he and our original surgeon have spoken about Mallee several times since last x-rays and they both cannot see how or why she would take a backwards step in her progress at this time. All that said and done it does not stop Brock and i worrying. Brock is an absolute wreak - i have never seen him like this before - he is really starting to block me out and not taking it very well at all, he said to me last night he just wishes it would go one way of the other (well or not well). I just don't know what to do anymore this has been the longest 4 months of my life, the most stressful thing i have ever been through, just when you think you can see that light out the end of the tunnell some bloody Y%*^&^*# comes and blows it out !!!!! Iam so sorry for rambling on - but i just need to get this all off my chest... Anyway just to add to our stress Mallee is on heat at the moment, as we have not been able to get her desex yet cos of all the ops that she has had since 4mths old, and i think this is adding to her weird behaviour. Last night while trying to take her out for a walk she started to stare straight up at the sky and then started jumping up and around, then just stopped dead in her tracks went rock hard and would not move and had this really weird expression on her face, we literally had to drag her by the collar inside, where she finally calmed down. I think she may have caught a wiff of something as there were several neighbouring dogs barking and carrying on so maybe they can smell her and she can smell them. i have never owned a female dog before so all of this weird on heat behaviour is new territory to me! Does anyone know how long she will carry on like this for and if bitches do go a bit silly when in heat. So to cut a long story short we have decided to cut her breaks back down to 4 a day only for the toliet until she is a bit better. Again i am sorry for my ramblings on but just need to vent a bit and get things of my chest. I so want Mallee to be better. Brock and i have been together nearly 13 years and have never argued so much as we are now, it is just so emotionaly taxing. You think things are going well and then you get hiccups, i suppose it is all part of the progress but also so worring at times, i can't help but worry and sometimes think of the worse.
  23. Just a quick note on the xray i have posted of Mallee's back legs - they are taken post op after a bilateral femoral neck and head excision, showing the necks of her femoral bones removed.
