  1. post-8234-1145767978_thumb.jpgBridgiecat

Here is a photo of a Black and White, he was bred in the U.K. but shown to his title in Germany. He was an International, German and Dutch Champion and is the gt gt gt grandad of my girl Jemma. As I said previously they are uncommon here. Have posted a photo of my boy Panda to the photo section on black dogs.

  2. Basically any dog shampoo is ok to use in the hydrobath, but 90% have to be rinsed out including of course Aloveen, a good one is also Squirt but again it has to be rinsed out.

Fido's are one of the only ones I've come across that dont have to be rinsed out.

Another is Vetadine, an iodine based shampoo which is for non specific skin conditions and can be left in. Used to do a border collie x in it and his coat always looked great after his bath.

  3. More details please

Could be anything, can you give an indication as to type of grasses you have?.

Diet as 6 months is hard to work out, are you following diet that the breeder gave?.

If you think it may be diet then feed only a bland diet of chicken and rice or chicken and cottage cheese, and then slowly re-introduce what you have been feeding and see what happens.

Did your dog have this problem before leaving the breeder?

What shampoo does the groomer use?

  4. Dru and Wagsalot

This then autofill, cant do that with mine.

Just use the garden hose, my twin tank has the removable plate at the back of the bath, rather than on the side.

Still havent worked out how to do a re-size of photos but if any one is more literate than me and can give some advice on downsizing will post a photo of my set up.

  5. Troy's Mum there is definately an age limit, as Tassie has said it is to do with the growth plate, and as Agilityfreak has also mentioned it is to protect the dog from injury.

It is many moons since I did agility with my oldest and at the obedience and agility club to which I belonged the age to start agility was 18 months.

Obviously every club will set what they deem to be an acceptable age depending on the breed.

  6. So rather than the autofill, which is the permanent plumbing, I just fill from the garden hose, I dont wash any dogs in the same water, mine sits on a cradle and then I can wheel it around. Great when its hot, or showery as you can wheel into a garage or carport.

  7. I have a Conmurra Twin tank, which means you can put shampoo in one tank and rinse water in the other. You have to heat one tank at a time which takes about 5 minutes each depending on what temperature you want, but to save time I throw in a bucket of hot water.

Only regret is that its not autofill but then I have a mobile service so cant have that.

Sometimes when not on a completely flat surface the water can run from one tank to the other which is a bugbear.

  8. Owned by Shelties, he is Shelton from N.Z. on his sires side and Shadtree, Aanara, and Hillacre on his dam's.

At the time he was born I understood the breeder from Shelton to say he was only the 6th she had come across in NZ in her 30 odd years of breeding.

Bridgiecat, no its not bad, its just that they are few and far between both in NZ and here. They are more popular in the US and Canada and also in Europe. There have been a few bred here and there is currently a bitch in Sydney with US bloodlines and another with English.

They dont do so well in the show ring a.t.m as most judges simply dont know what to do when they see one, one in Syd. is owned by a judge.

Perhaps in the future we will see more.

  9. The two I have are:

Successful Dog Breeding The Complete Handbook of Canine Midwifery by Chris Walkowicz and Bonnie Wilcox.

The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies A Complete and Practical Guide

    by Muriel P. Lee

  10. Hilary Harmer's Book which Jed mentioned is available on Amazon from $US75 secondhand and new. Also abebooks.com have a 2nd hand copy at $US28, from a bookseller in South Africa.

  11. sheltiesrule, I always use a dryer as it helps biff the loose coat, and they come up butiful, boy are they my dogs?. Mind you I have a commercial one for the business, but use it on a lower setting.

A powerful human hairdryer is enough to fluff them up, just make sure that you dont use too much heat and I keep spraying the coat with water as I do it so its doesnt dry out.

  12. A season can last up to 3 weeks with prime time for standing starting as early as 7 days.

Goolge "Bitches in Season" which gives a good explanation of the stages involved.

One very important thing to mention though is that you dont want any accidents to happen so she should be kept somewhere safe that a male cant get to her. If you are at work then lock her somewhere secure e.g your laundry. If you want to take her out for a walk do so by putting her into your car and driving her somewhere away from your property, and preferably where there are no other dogs. Do NOT let her off the lead.

  13. Shelties generally stop growing at about 7 months, as far as feeding is concerned I keep them on puppy food for 12 months.

As for temperament then my youngest who had a litter last Oct has now decided to be the baby of the family again and has reverted to many of her puppy traits and she just turned three.
