  1. Yeah, you're right. I would too.
  2. No, my sis inlaws hubby came home and buried them. I think they are still thinking that they were baited because when people would walk out past the back fence the puppies would bark and have a carry on. But the vet they spoke with said it could have also been a snake bite. Dreadful to think that a person is capable of killing like that. Surely if anyone had a problem they would either contact the council or leave a note in the letter box. Both my sis inlaw and hubby are so distraught, i think they just wanted to put them to rest asap.
  3. Thanks for your kind thoughts guys! I couldn't imagine that happening to my doggies. We have 3 too. As you say it would be your worst nightmare!!!
  4. Yesterday my sis inlaw phoned to tell us that all of her 3 dogs were dead!!! She went to let them out of their kennel and they were lying there. They're not sure if they were baited or a snake had bitten them. They were 3 lovely little dogs. They will be missed!!! Such sad circumstances.
  5. Thanks everyone for the replies. He is two years old, but i'm not sure if because he is such a small dog (2.5KG) that it takes it's toll more???? The kennel did take him with the cough but he stays in with the cats, apparently cats can't get it. They seemed happy to take him. Thanks for the honey idea, i'd rather give him that than the cough syrup all the time. My other two dogs haven't got it yet............is it only a matter of time? or would they have had it by now? Thanks again!!!!
  6. Hi everyone, My pom has got Canine cough after being vaccinated against it. He has now had it for 4 weeks. Is this normal? He has had two lots of antibiotics and is also having cough syrup. He was borded at a kennels (he was in isolation) last week and they said he was better, but since he's been home he is hacking again and coughing up clear liquid. Could he be alergic to something at home? Seems strange he was better at the kennels........ Any help would be appreciated.
  7. Erny......you are amazing!!! Thank you so much. You've given me heaps to start with!! ;)
  8. As for the dog aggressive dog, i took her to a sheep herding clinic a few months back. She was a different dog (she's a kelpie x). I should explore this type of training more for her. She actually befriended another dog there. I have taken her to a behaviorist in the past but due to my slackness didn't pursue it as i should have. I think it's time to take responsibility. Thanks again
  9. That sounds like a great idea too! Thanks!! With a bit of know how and effort i'm quite confident that i will have better behaved dogs sooner than i thought
  10. What great advise!! Thank you. Tonight i'll be picking up and putting down the lead all night..........especially if it's going to make for calm puppies. As for the loose lead exercises.....could you please elaborate a little. Not sure what you mean. I'm very much a novice. Having had dogs for years you would think i would know better. Thanks again. Awesome advise!!
  11. Thanks so much for your replies! Lewis & Lyn, i hadn't thought about that reinforcing the bad behavior. As you said it makes me feel better.....maybe a bit less guilty about not walking them as often as i should. Will give the training seperately thing a go too. Thanks again
  12. Howdy everyone, We have 3 dogs in our house and things are getting out of control. I have never been the most "dedicated" with obedience training but something needs to be done. First issue is walking the dogs - because in the past they haven't been out on a regular basis, every time we get the leads ready to go for a walk they go mental. I know it's my own fault (no flaming please) but is there any way to settle the dogs down before we go for a walk or is it a matter of each time we go out it will get easier. To top it off one of my dogs is dog aggressive so walking her is a stressful experience anyway. Any suggestions? Also my little pom has NO obedience at all. Where do i start? Just with the sitting and staying commands? The other 2 dogs could also do with some general obedience, do you train them seperately or all together? I've always thought of myself as a "doggy person" but i'm realizing that i don't think i am - don't get me wrong i love them to bits. They are inside with us and we have cuddles etc so please don't think that they are neglected in the back yard. Any suggestions on getting started on training 3 unruly dogs would be appreciated. As i mentioned i realize it's my fault and want to change so that my furkids get the best out of their life too. No flaming please........this is sincere!!!
  13. Hi everyone, would it be ok to us time out in the loo when the dog is out side whining and barking for no reason? As long as you use a marker. And if so would you leave him in there for only a few minutes and then straight back outside? thanks,
  14. i saw one in our local pet store for about $85...not sure of the brand. Might give it a go though
  15. That's interesting. I'm definately going to try holding his nose. Of course lastnight he didn't do it.........i kept waiting and waiting so i could try some of the suggestions! :D
  16. Thanx for all the replies. He does seem to be worse when he's excited. Will try some of the suggestions though. It has put my mind to ease! Thanks again :p
  17. Thanks so much Roxie........ should i still go to the vet or just try those couple of things you mentioned? Hopefully he'll grow out of it! Thanks again!!
  18. Yeah......exactly. It sounds like he is going to die but then he recovers and he is fine. Because he gets over it really quickly and is back to his normal self i don't investigate further. Sounds like i'm a bad mum.........but he really does seem ok. :p
  19. Hi everyone, I have a 14 month old pomeranian who seems to choke on his own air sometimes. His little fit lasts about 15 - 20 seconds each time. He doesn't seem too bothered after it happens, but it sounds awful. Anyone else have this problem? Or heard of it? Thanks,
  20. Just off topic for a sec.......sorry. Is it common for a kelpie to be dog agressive and have "issues" with lots a stuff?
  21. I just bought a bark collar for my 12month old pom. Used to be dead against them but we were desperate as we are out at work all day. When he has it on (not very often now) not a peep out of him. He does press his luck when he doesn't have it on though. It doesn't replace good obedience training but it might eleviate a bit of the stress. As for putting it on a dog of 6months old...........depends how desperate they are if it's a choice between that and getting rid of the dog..... Also when my little man first had it on he did a total of 1 1/2 barks. That was it. He soon new that this big thing around his neck could get quite unconfortable if he barked. Not the nicest of options but if desperate.......
  22. Why don't you put the dog in a kennel. It might be a more relaxing holiday for everyone involved..... Also "Cesars Way" is a great read, talks about dogs make up and pack behavior. Kmart sells it for about $17
  23. At our obedience class the trainers supply 1 water bottle that just has water in it (to squirt trouble makers) the other water bottle has vinegar in it and water - but that's just to keep the equipment clean when a dog pee's on it.
