  1. Sorry, I lived in the North so only know Northern vets.

I am sure their are plenty of top ones in Hobart. Why not suggest they go to a dog show and ask the exhibitors, they would be sure to know of someone. Their is a show on in Hobart tomorrow. :)

My apologies that was today their was a show on. But check the shows on in Tas. on the Events Diary on DOL.

  2. Why not go to Dogzonline puppies for sale page.

Yep, have done. Just thought I would get some opinions of recommended breeders, as Dogzonline is where my friend Deb got her puppy from that has had a multitude of problems

Oh Wow! No, she didn't get the puppy from Dogzonline but from a breeder who is listed as an independent breeder on the puppy pages of Dogzonline. If your friend's dog has problems she should take it up with the breeder.

There is no way I would buy from the DOL puppy pages without a personal recommendation. Word of mouth is the best way to do it.

A personal recommendation isn't much good unless it comes from a known ethical breeder or a person whom may have purchased and is more than happy with that breeders service. I would personally still be wary of breeders that only breed for profit. I only recommend breeders that I personally know and will never knowingly do you any harm with the dog that is sold.

  3. I have done both - done it myself, and used an agent. Even with a cluey exporter breeder, which I had last time I imported, and the fact that I work in a border related business myself, I was glad we had an agent. You only have to stuff up one thing with the vaccinations/treatments and the records to blow your whole timeframe and then you are really relying on the indulgence of the exporter or your own bank balance to board the dog for the extra time. The problem is not the countries of origin most of the time, it's our own requirements that require deft handling. The main thing with choosing an agent is choosing a good one - the good ones are worth their weight in gold, the bad ones - well, with those you'll be on the same level doing it yourself.

    +1

You stuff up one piece of paperwork no matter how slight and the dog can stay in the country of departure for another six months.

One test even one day out can cause a delay and all tests may have to be repeated.

Ah, but there are all types of breeders and you must learn to sort the wheat from the chaff.

I would do my homework and speak to a breeder that health tests and has/is producing top dogs in their field, ie = Show quality producing champions for the show ring or a breeder that produces quality obedience dogs that are also titled or a breeder of agility dogs that are also titled. Go to dog shows and speak to the breeders their and they will also give you guidance. :)
