My Darling Gordon Has A Large Tumor

Sorry guys but I need to post this some place where people will understand how sad I am right now. I am an inactive poster but the vet has just rung me to tell me that my darling Gordon Setter, Ruby, has a tumor the size of a fist fused to her intestine. It is too big to remove. They have biopsied, closed her back up and now we wait for 5 days until the results come back. It doesn't look good. It is very large.

She only went in for a clip and vaccinations but I also told the vet she had been off her food & was running a bit of a temperature for the last week. Investigations led to this.

I get to pick her up tomorrow & she can come home while we wait.

She is a total sweetheart of a dog - the gentlest, most people orientated girl. She is a young 7 years old.

I'm crossing my fingers but without much hope.

I'm a little teary to say the least. I've had her since a pup and she is my little sweetheart. I've also got a little Kelpie who is wondering at the sudden increase in pats and hugs this afternoon.

Sorry to hear the news. If it is benign it may be worth consulting a specialist. My friends sheltie just has a similar situation, 20 cm growth attached to the bowel, spleen etc. Normal vet said no chance but the specialist removed it and she is recovering well

Oh, my own Ruby (staffy cross something) had a large mass on her spleen which was only detected when she was supposed to have cruciate surgery at Christmas time last year. The specialist rang to discuss her prognosis and plan of action, which was uncertain for some time. It took over a week for pathology to come back after the splenectomy. We were *so* lucky that it was a benign tumour.

She went and had the cruciate surgery four weeks ago and is recovering well from that too.

There is ALWAYS hope. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way...your Ruby is obviously as well loved as our Ruby.
