Apbt's In Germany

I read a German translation the other day regarding the legislation that governs the APBT. Ultimately, the APBT is a banned breed, except a person can aquire a licence to keep them. To aquire an APBT licence, the applicant has to sit an approved dog behaviour course and pass an exam to obtain the licence. Once licenced to keep the APBT, the only restriction was mandatory leashing in public and an adequate enclosure to prevent escape.

The German/English translations are not always the best, and I wondered if anyone knew more about this licencing system???. It seemed to focus upon responsible people owning the breed and concentrates more on the ownership, not the breed it's self.

In Germany, BSL varies from state to state, just as in Australia.

There are also federal government import restrictions. Information on import restrictions are on German customs website

You could also try Googling on 'Kampfhunde' (the german word for fighting dogs). For example there is a Wikpedia site that lists BSL. It is in German but you can use Google's 'Translate' facility to tranlate the page from German to (poor) English.

The first list which breeds, the second list what kind of restrictions. Muzzle, on leash, a person can only walk one dog at any time, permit for keeping needed, certain colored collar...

Depending on the state it can be very easy, or almost impossible to get the permit to keep them at all or even without permanent leash / muzzle

Bavaria is, as usual, much more strict than everyone else. On one website I've read that only 5 SBT's are living in Munich. You need very good reasons if you want to keep a restricted breed there as to why it REALLY has to be that kind of breed.
