Snorting In Shihtzu Pup

I recently, 2 days ago infact purchased a 9 week old pedigree shihtzu puppy, he's the most lovely little thing but he snorts when he breaths sometimes and when he's excited, he also makes little sneezing noises, does it sound like something i should be concerned about? i mentioned it to his breeder and she said its probably just because of his flat face, im thinking of taking him for a vet check tomorrow, anyone have any advice?

sounds like an elongated soft palate, common in the flat faced dogs. If it's happening regularly then definately see a vet about it and see if it's at the stage where it may require surgery down the track. Meanwhile do not let the dog get too hot and make sure it doesnt scoff down its food until you have it checked.

Your puppy could just be "snorty" but regardless, I recommend that all new puppy buyers get a health check for peace of mind. Mention the snuffles to the vet and say you would like that checked out in particular.

Thanks for the replies, I tried getting him an appointment today but they were full so tomorrow morning it is.

Just an update, hes perfectly fine now and no longer does it, the vet couldnt find anything wrong with him either
