If he's just a pup he might be teething? I used to give my girls chilled carrots for the teething and then I'll give them loads of stuff to do whilst I'm not home. In summer I'll make up a soup stock with some bits if meat and stuff and freeze it in a kong, scatter some treats round the yard and lots of toys ( which I rotate to maintain interest). My boy took a liking to a few pieces of wood. I just painted it on lightly, one lick and he decided to change his hobby. My bitch crossed the room just to avoid the smell.
