RubyBlue Posted November 21, 2011 Share Posted November 21, 2011 I put this in a thread on the puppy page but didn't many responses and was wondering if anyone who regularly reads the health section may have some ideas. I am getting a puppy soon and have heard about the Nobivac DHP vaccine which over-rides the maternal antibodies so the course can finish at 10 weeks. This sounds like a great idea to me as he'd be 12 weeks over the Christmas weekend and two weeks extra socialisation couldn't possibly be a bad thing. However I am having a really had time finding a vet in Melbourne which uses this. We have it if people request it. But even though we're of the 'less is best' with vaccines, we still generally stick to the regular protocol, that is until we're 110% sure that the Nobivac provides complete coverage and is also safe for a puppy's immune system (it's clearly different from the others if it can override the maternal antibodies). Also, be specific - say that you are wanting this particular vaccination, and that you want the vaccination certificate to specify that her next vaccination would be in 2014. At that time they claimed and stated that their vaccine had been altered and that the protocols of giving puppies their vaccinations at 6, 12 and 16 weeks still stood. HOWEVER, the new version of the vaccine over-rides the maternal antibodies sp that if for some reason new puppy buyers didn't follow the protocols or delayed on the vaccination process the puppies should still be covered for a period of time. Hope this helps, I feel from what we were told at the lecture by the companies vets that if you delay vaccinating for 2 weeks your puppy will be still able to go out in public. kosmology Posted November 28, 2011 Share Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) Sorry I'm not in Melbourne, but the Nobivac vaccine seems to be all the rage here in Perth. I opted out of Nobivac because I'm no too keen on the intranasal KC component for pups, and instead went for the usual subcutaneous C5 brand. I had to ring around a lot to find anyone that had a vaccine I considered okay, that's how I discovered Nobivac was popular here. My vet in northern NSW had just started to switch to Nobivac too at the beginning of this year, and she was a bit alternative, so I assume it's okay!
