Change Of Colour In Dogs Nose ?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Ok , Bella is getting older and I'm getting paranoid about her health

She's a 7 year old Cattle Dog with no health issues other then mild arthritis ( being treated)

But I noticed her nose has gone from full black to being a bit blotchy and paler in the middle.

Someone said to me she must be lacking something and to get blood tests done but that seems a bit drastic considering she's hoovering her food , is active and her usual loving self . So nothing I can pinpoint .

Is it normal to get colour loss/changes in dogs noses ?

Not sure if it will show clearly on the photo , but she liked posing for it

There is a condition commonly referred to as winter nose or snow nose. The dogs nose normally goes lighter during a certain period of the year and then returns to normal. It also seems to become more common with age.

Nasal depigmentation can be due to "snow nose" or be an autoimmune disease such as discoid lupus.

This looks very mild and more like snow nose or age-related change imo but if you're worried you should see your vet.

If it starts bleeding or becomes ulcerated it could be a sign of something more serious.
