Current Vaccination Schedule?

I'll also discuss with breeder, but wondering what the best puppy vaccination schedule is?

Has been long time since I last had a puppy and "best practice" can change?

Thanks.

I went with the second vaccination at 10 weeks option, as I think socialisation is too important to put off until after the 12 week mark

I went with the Nobivac for the second vaccination… but opted not to have the KC component with it as per my breeders advice and others with the same breed. You have to wait another 10 days post the vaccine until you can take them out in public but it means you don't need to do the third shot. The next C3 booster is due at 15 months I think and then I'm going to titre test after that and only vaccinate when necessary. Not all vets carry the Nobivac vaccination though and my vet said it was very safe.

Quoted from the WSAVA Vaccination Guidelines....

"Some products are also licensed with a ‘10 week finish’ designed such that the second of two vaccinations is given at 10 weeks of age. The rationale behind this protocol is to permit ‘early socialization’ of pups. The VGG recognizes that this is of great benefit to the behavioural development of dogs. Where such protocols are adopted, great caution should still be maintained by the owner – allowing restricted exposure of the pup to controlled areas and only to other pups that are healthy and fully vaccinated. The VGG recommends that whenever possible a third dose of core vaccine be given at 14–16 weeks of age."

Perhaps a read-between-the-lines attitude needs to be taken here. Perhaps this group does not have total confidence in the ability of 10 week finish vaccinations to offer full immunity.

Disease burdens are highly localized. I would say (1) find a vet who can talk to you intelligently about the best vaccination schedule for your area, based on experience and (2) follow that vet's advice. My vet says there is so much parvo in this area, and distemper epidemics are not unknown, that the more aggressive 3 vaccination schedule is worth the extra cost. She advises use of live, as opposed to killed vaccines. I don't remember the details re. which brands, but she had a rationale that made sense.

Thanks.

Is not so much cost, but getting out more around 11 weeks vs 15+ weeks.

Will discuss with vet and breeder.

Coming up to tourist season around here, so?

My understanding was that the Nobivac had been shown to overcome maternal immunity.

Thought rationale for giving 3rd dose when pup older @ 14-16 weeks was in case earlier dose(s) were ineffective due to pup still having immunity from "Mum" .

Nobivac is a live vaccine
