LOL) and thought this would be the best place to try and find a new Vet for my Chihuahuas .As there are quite a few Vets here, I thought the best and easiest way would be for someone to recommend a Vet to me, rather than I do the eeny meeny miney mow thing and still not know which one .Any help with helping us find a new Vet for or furbabies would be greatly appreciated. McIvor Road Veterinary Centre 29A Michael Street Bendigo....ph:- 5443-7749 This is a good centre, lots of people go there. Must book ahead for normal ops like teeth cleaning, speying etc. Ring up for normal consults. Very popular so expect a waiting list. I use them and I'm happy with them. I found them ........I dont know..........commericalised. If thats the word. Bendigo Animal Hospital 294 Napier Street Bendigo ... ph:- 5443 3322 This one is good also. I've never had to deal with them, yet. But have had dealings with them when I've picked up and injured dog. Staff there were friendly and very helpful. Ring them later and they tell you how the dog went and adopted out too. Was thinking of them for my next visit. The others I havent a clue. Good luck with whoever you choose. hopenfox Posted November 15, 2005 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Hi mareschi, I've been going to the McIvor Road Vet for 12 years and am very pleased with them...A con for them, is the 'head' vet, Sue has changed over the years, becoming a lot more 'careful' in what she says (eg. Ask advice and she will often say "it's up to you", she's not that talkative either and you have to squease it out of her - answers to most questions are yes, no or maybe - she's not a people person). She's a very good vet though, and I would trust her with any opperation on any of my pets. (She's removed lumps from my rats, desexed my ferrets and a rat and opperated on my guinea-pigs and chooks with great success.) Several friends go to the Eaglehawk Vet. Clinic and rave about it... mareschi Posted November 15, 2005 Author Share Posted November 15, 2005 Hi there Thanks for info Yes I know Bi-Lo thats my local...Supermarket that is LOL Now , McIvor Rd Vet .Thanks for that info Hopenfox a woman told me today(while out walking dogs) that the head lady is not very friendly and doesn't really make any attempt at conversation , and I can't handle that especially if one of my dogs is in whelp and I am there for hours and I don't get spoken to the whole time LOL .But she did say she was a very good vet.Suppose you can't have your cake and eat it too. But I am a bit greedy I want both , I like to have a good relationship with a vet if you know what i mean Thank you so much for that and now that 2 people have told me the same thing i think I am definitely leaning towards Eaglehawk. Now I cant seem to count how many extras she has. I like the personal touch too and I am prepared to go miles for. I have another vet at Broadford too and she is wonderful. Caroline. Jim Posted November 18, 2005 Share Posted November 18, 2005 In my ever so humble opinion, for whatever that opinion is worth, Dr Sue Collins is the single best vet I have ever come across and she played no small part in the success of our kennels. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty on so many occassions I have lost count. Yes, she is far more comfortable with your dog than she is with you. Part of it I think is that her brain operates at a speed far in excess of most people (certainly mine) and she's way ahead of any conversation we may feel is needed. All she's doing is quietly saying to herself..."Give me the dog. Let me fix the problem. Let me do my thing now please. Would you please shut up now and let me fix the damned dog" While trying not to sound rude to you and I. Thus you get the smile, the uh-huh's etc. And not a whole lot of anything else. What you are seeing is her impatience to get on with the job at hand...making your dog well.... without offending you. And the first part of that is her priority. If you want the bedside manner, with almost the same skill level, ask for Sandy. As you can probably tell, I have the highest regard for both the abilty and humanity of these particular ladies. If you want to chat with Sue btw...get her into theatre. Now you're in her territory. She's non-stop talk in there. Take a notebook with you. you'll learn heaps. I am a woman I don't shut up for 5 seconds LOL But if you can recommend her in such a lovely way as that then I'll give her a go. So if I want her to talk to me then I'll just have to break a chihuahuas leg in three places and take a note pad with me. EASY. No surgery, with a syringe case for a splint. Chihuahua was feeding a week old litter at the time...JUST to make things even more interesting.
