  2. What is even more hilarious is the attitude of some ANKC breeders towards the general public and “puppy buyers”. It reeks of elitism and driving away the general public at a faster rate. With things like detailed complicated contracts, limited registration, desexing at 8 weeks and co-ownership also off-putting. It’s like viewing every puppy buyer as an aspirational puppy farmer or BYB. Is desexing at 8 weeks in the best interest of the puppy or breeder? Even tubal ligation on a female puppy will produce adhesions , guaranteeing when a full Spey needs to be done later it will be more complicated. To top it off vet surgery doesn’t commonly use laparoscopic techniques , it’s not widely available and probably cost prohibitive. No wonder “adopt don’t shop” and rescuing dogs is gaining popularity. The majority of dogs in my middle class neighbourhood are oodles. I don’t blame them for buying a cross breed poodle, they are readily available. The general public aren’t going to wait years for the occasional litter bred by ANKC breeders.

  5. So you bought your pup from a dogzonline member? You have to be a ankc member here I'm sure. Well last I heard Doesn't make sense. Although these days we are all sitting ducks to be called puppy farmers anyway... No one is safe.. You must be inspected to ensure you conform to the POCTA legislation. Even if you had only one and it lives in the home with you. You MUST have a kennel and run, fence mi immediately 6 feet (they measure it to the inch. Enclosed exercise area minimum 6 feet. Separate isolation/quarantine kennel and run. List of "staff" (will accept family members as staff) fire extinguisher. Evacuation plan. In event of flood or fire. Siginege of your vet and phone no Have I missed anything? So surely the blueprint of a puppy farm. No pass. No dogs... All tarred with same brush seems to me According to the rumour mill Victoria is introducing annual registration fees at double the previous amount. Said will be adopted by all states. Financial elimination of pet owners who cannot afford the increase..
  6. I noticed in the abc competition muster dogs between kelpie and border collie pups that many didn't like the border collies as they preferred the kelpie initiative whereas border's liked to be micro managed. Plenty of unhappy acd owners there hasn't been an ACD version yet. Some of mine work chooks, goats and cattle for their owners
  7. Oh yeah, I know that well, border collies are taking over on cattle work - if it suits farmers, and they seem to be conducting impressive quality team work - also I heard they reckon that they are even smarter that our cattle dogs! > The return of the brits by the backdoor hah? Right now, my job (I will self assign this, just like work dogs do without your consent) is to shed some light on questions people ask and (about my boxy head cattle dog) even though I have a good response, as I became a passionate about their story since I collected all pieces of the puzzle known around internet and accessible hard copies. However writing it down online will be of great interest not just for prospective owners, and also breeders (had one at the top of this thread showing lots of interest). Got some downtime today here in sunny Queensland and will revise the Australian History today on the ACD page (Wikipedia). And yeah, even though we humans sleep against eachother for comfort, we are all on our own in the end, inexorably deriving in the vast universe that has no end
  8. Just spent $18K on my Wolfie and cant count how many more thousands on my other 4 Lab Rescues all needing cruciate, I looked into insurance for this one as they have an "overbite" and may need extensive dental work in the future, but after reading all the recommendations on here l dont think l would bother now,
  9. Yes it sent red flags with me big time, l was trying so hard to be "Responsible" l thought this was the site to go to as Breeders had to be registered to advertise on here, l didnt realise they can still "hide" behind that and Puppy Farm, he said the parents had to be DNA tested, l thought this would all have to be done before he can sell "purebred" puppies
  10. Thank you, l didnt want to "shame" anyone, but if l dont get the Registration papers in the next week as promised l will be naming the Breeder not only on this site but everywhere l can, l will not support "Puppy Farming" under any circumstances, l am a Foster Carer for many Rescues and have 3 already, l brought a pure bred pup so that we could ensure that we were not contributing to Puppy Farming, we wanted a Bull Terrier as we had one many years ago and they dont come up very often in Rescue, we have a BullMastiffxWolfhoundxDane who has just cost us $18K for cruciate ligaments and other health ailments, we need a dog that he can play with but at the same time not do any further damage with rough play like he does with our BullArab, we also have a Rescue Jack Russell. I have had 4 Labs all with cruciates and all costing in excess of $10K and all Rescues, people dont want them when they find out how much its going to cost to repair and rehabilitate. This is the reason we wanted to make sure the Bully was healthy and that the Breeder was not contributing to an already overwhelmed system.
  11. If your pup is from a dual sired litter, pups would need to be DNA tested for pedigree/registration. So parents would of course need to be profiled too? What did Dogs Victoria say? They should know if breeder is registered with them.
  12. Just a pic of the vaccination? Major red flags Every puppy should have it's own certificate come with it and microchip paperwork The parents or the puppies to be dna'd
  13. apparently this breed of dog have pre-existing issues that Insurance will not cover, if the mother and father show "pre existing" health issues then Insurer is well within their right to deny payment, we were told that in order to insure our Labrador against hip dysplasia, we had to have "hip scores" of parents.
  14. Thats the problem we dont think the parents are registered going by what we have been told in text message, therefore l dont know how they have been able to "sell" purebred pups on this site when they actually are not even registered????
  15. Thank you, we have waited nearly 6months for paperwork to arrive, when l brought my Labrador, his papers were with him when he was picked up, and so were my Ragdolls papers, after taking so long l was starting to get worried, l may have supported a "Puppy Farm" and that would be the worst nightmare for me
  16. Yes l have proof of payment, name, DOB and address of Breeder, what we dont have is any further information, we got a pic with vaccination detail. Ive got text back from Breeder saying that parents had to be DNA tested so they could be lodged with ANKC, my understanding is in order to "sell" purebred puppies on this site this should have already been done, how can they pups be registered if the parents are not????

  18. You are pretty much on your own those who like stumpys keep them many breed them hence so many available for assessment when the register was opened. Others like the cattledog, of course there are others like my friend who prefers the wirehaired stumpies. Just as if you visit Tarana near Bathurst almost. Every property has coolies, majority Merle they are so popular, the patch pattern Merle. The whole reason there are so many different breeds is so many people have different expectations of what they want in their dog
  19. I do. Heard it's complicated to stay within the modern lines of regulation as breeding stumpies is like playing with fire it seems. Thus to remember that a stumpy tail is a natural irregularity. This type canine as in, descent from wolves are supposed to have one, for reasons we aren't aware of, only them to know, unfortunately their English is generally limited to barking, so go find out.. improved balance is my best guess. And you're right, I mean, if my eye would catch the ones from a stumpy that'd fulfil my need of a work dog, I would certainly disregard its minor irregularity as it'd be in full working capacities. Meanwhile I don't support continuity of ASTCD. First of all because it's a bit of a pretentious mouthful to pronounce, can't even say it, and the other because I don't understand why some would break the piggy bank deliberately to own one, but that's just me. Because to my modest understanding, they have the same genetic patrimony of an ACD and have followed pretty much the exact same lineage, provides the exact same features and also they work cattle by nature. Differences are negligible to us. Why is the ANKC ignoring the major differences between an ACD (5 types) and a CDoA (only 3)? Regular passer-by's aren't. So, would you like a recording of the next one that comes asking so I can prove my point perhaps?
  20. Last week
  21. Hilarious if it wasn't so tragic. Or the pending results so final
  22. Each time there is a dog/person attack, I think just how frightening it must be
  23. You would need to ask Hilton he knew the lines, too far back for me. Sadly he has passed. Ask dogs NSW if if they still have the book Hilton is mentioned in, it has lots of the early history of the breeders Why are you ignoring the very different physique of ACD v ASTCD? Also are you aware that breeding stumpy tail to stumpy tail parents Means two copies in a pup is lethal. Hence stumpy to tailed stumpy yields bigger live litters
  24. Just looking at the ANKC 2024 registration numbers with 48,820 recorded. This is a drop from 69,335 recorded in 2018. I tried to find the estimated number of puppies bred in 2024, it somewhere between 500,000 and 550,000. This means ANKC members are now breeding less than 10% of puppies sold in Australia. ANKC membership numbers keep falling, now sitting at 27,000 in 2024. Houston, I don’t think we have a problem. I know we have a problem!
  25. To date, I still fail to find any differences behind those 2, long and short tail, that's paddock talk. I know that stumpies are pricing on the high side, however I believe it's just posh and clumsy marketing. Feel.free to check out what kennel clubs say about them. They say short tails don't get caught in gates and also say they have better balance in a tight space. Thing is, if I had a tail myself, I reckon it'd improve my balance drastically, look at kangaroos for example, why is this animal has the reputation to be an excellent boxer? Because they would never kiss the mat, simple. Let me ask you one thing. The pups and grown ups you had then as protectors, were they Bagust's or Bentley's strains?
