  1. The key word here is "neighbour". If a dog that lived in adjoining property to yours and gotten into another property and attacked the resident dog, are you telling me you wouldn't be at all concerned? I'd be worried sick my dogs would be next. That makes it my business IMO. The statement by the OP was: I believe the OP would have been nosy by reporting the owner just because she suspected they had a PB. What eventuated afterwards is a different story... Well, as it turns out the OP did mind her own business. I wouldnt' be minding any more if I were in her shoes. Really? She did the right thing..... Damn Pit Bulls and their stupid owners.......

  3. Mind Your Own Business. Would you be saying this if it were your dog that was attacked in it's own yard? That would be different now wouldn't it..... ie: different to a neighbour who has nothing to do with the situation ringing up the council. MYOB
  4. fine an dandy, but do YOU own an American Pitbull terrier? and do you have first hand experience with dealing with the laws, not just reading legislation. This "legislation" is what the law enforcers have to stick by. It's important that it is adhered to by both the DLG and owners of restricted breeds. When dealing with the laws it pays to know them. That is what PPS is trying to tell you and it is correct. I don't like the stupid law any more than anyone else here. Unfortunately, it's the way it is and that is that. Knowing the law has helped many an innocent dog from ignorant and power obsessed council rangers. You'd be wise to read up and learn.
  5. How many breeders temp test their dogs? How do you know the dogs weren't ANKC reg'd American Staffies? This owner was out and about socialising his dogs and it seems people like yourself were too ignorant and judgmental to give him the time of day or at least see the good in what he was doing.
  6. Sounds like he was being careful. That's not stupid, that's being responsible. I'd shorten my lead if it were one of my Rotties and I didn't know the person/dog walking past.
  7. Yes you can. We do it all the time at our clinic. Followed by a description, ie: colour, size, etc. The NSW gov't push for a breed name but stuff 'em. No particular breed, no breed written down.
  8. I said "an accurate as possible description given". For example: Breed: X Breed or NA Description: Medium/solid build, Short pied brown and white coat, etc
  9. That's true - sort of. Basicly: No ANKC AmStaff papers = Pitbull = restricted breed (Unless ofcourse you can prove papered AmStaff parentage). DogsNSW (the NSW canine council) has an agreement with the NSW State Government that their papered ones will be spared from the evils of BSL. The AKC's doors were re-opened for a short while in the 70's to add new bloodlines. This happened around the same time as the name change and the SBT was recognised. Many UKC and ADBA - APBT's became AKC American Staffordshire Terriers. That's why so many are dual registered. 30 odd years doesn't change a breed if nothing else is added. They're still Pitbulls. Actually - The AKC even claim the American Staffordshire Terrier as the true Pitbull. Red noses can and do occur in AmStaffs. It just means they don't fit the standard that's all. Back on topic - Pittylover - Nice pic. Your little lass sounds lovely. Most vets I know prefer to treat Pitbull/Staffy types for the simple reason that they are so easy to work with. Least likely to bite or struggle. If only people knew the truth. That's one of the many reasons the AVA wouldn't support the NSW Gov't in their witch hunt. I am a vet nurse and I can say truthfully that our surgery does not support BSL. Any dog we chip that has no papers - no matter if it has a bull head and muscles or looks like a Silky terrier, it is written down as a X breed with an accurate as possible description given. Some vets are knowledgable when it comes to breed id, some you're better of asking the dog. Most don't want to get involved with BSL. Same goes for the AVA.
  10. That's an excellent point Kavik and Poodlefan, I agree. As the saying goes - Great dog, shame about the handler!
  11. Obedience is fine. Just concentrate on working your dog on "both" sides if you plan to do agility. I've seen so many left sided obedience trained dogs struggle when crossing over to agility.
