  1. it's just over 2 weeks until the Global Rally against Breed Specific Legislation on the 13th July. Please go along and show your support and help put an end to these unjust laws.

Not because you're a bull breed lover, not even because you're a dog lover, but because you want the basic right to live in a safe community.

  2. Copied from the Arctic Breed Rescue Facebook page, because they said it so well

ENDING BSL - ONE DOG AT A TIME

Picture this. There's a storm, part of your fence falls down. Your dog is spooked and flees to the safety of your front doorstep, waiting for for Mum & Dad to come home. Some dropkick reports your dog as being "on the loose" - on his own property, mind you - your dog is subsequently seized. To add insult to injury, your dog is then deemed to be a restricted breed.

    The rollercoaster begins.

16 months later, one very dedicated owner, thousands in legal fees, wonderful legal representation, one unhappy Council (boofnhoo)... Rocket is reunited with Dad.

Rocket has not been allowed to see his family in over a year, but judging by that wide-ass smile on his face, he knows he is loved. He knows he is one of the lucky ones - who's family will fight to the death for him. If only all animals were as lucky.

July 13 will see a public rally, calling for the end to BSL, being held around Australia. ABR are proud supporters of this event, and will be sharing the details with you all.

For now just do a happy dance that this boy is home. I am!

  3. Sometimes I take Jackson's bedding out of his crate to straighten it up and tuck it all back in and I find the tray is wet and so is the underside of his crate mat. I thought the phantom bed wetter [Angel!] was to blame, but we keep them closed when not in use so I was quite stumped. I'm 99% sure that Jackson isn't peeing in there. Could it be condensation build up? The room they're in does get condensation on the windows, but I've never noticed it on the crate trays before.

  4. We have enough laws. They're not enforced. Plain and simple. Councils need more money to hire more ACOs to enforce the laws that already exist.

I can't walk my dogs in the morning without having to cross the road at least once to avoid an off lead dog. Usually yappy ankle biters with little dog syndrome. I regularly report off lead dogs and council does nothing about it. Two working dogs up the road are constantly out and seriously injured my neighbour's cat, but council did nothing about it and they still walk their dogs off lead. How was that not a wake-up call for them?? They're not bogans. They're intelligent middle class homeowners with kids and their own business.

A couple of weeks ago I rang to report two offlead Lab crosses in the park on our street. One had attacked our onlead AST before and I'd heard from lots of other people that they'd had trouble with it too. It was a weekend so I had to ring a switchboard and wait for a ranger to call me back. It was 2hrs later when they called me back and because I didn't know the exact address where they lived they couldn't do anything. The dogs were long gone.

I don't know what the quick fix solution is, but enforcing leash laws and jacking up fines for dogs at large would be a bloody good start in my opinion.

  5. A large warehouse type pet supplies shop, I'm not a fan of the whole puppy side of things(and do often quietly steer people towards rescue if possible :p ) but at the moment it's the only job I can get. We do have welfare league cats in though rather than just selling byb ones and it's more pet supplies, we don't have zillions of apuppies all the time if you know what I mean, I just try to avoid that side of things as much as possible.

Fair enough. I was just hoping you weren't going to say you work at a pound/shelter.

  6. We get a fair few people in at work asking if we ever get amstaffs and we always tell them to go to a registered breeder and get a papered dog because apart from the BYB aspect it's not worth the risk of having a dog that could be identified as a pitty

What industry do you work in?

The breed does matter in the eyes of the authorities in regard to community safety to determine what breeds are more likey to attack on a hair spring trigger........unfortunately whether we like it or not, the most severe attacks and maulings continually feature the same style of dog...

Not true. This is what the media has taught you to think because they don't report other attacks. Or if they do they don't name the breed.

  7. If these are the dogs I saw on the news they are NOT freaking pit bulls. They look like some type of American bulldog cross. I am so over these "witnesses" calling any attacking dog a pit bull.

Doesn't matter what breed they are. They are dangerous dogs and should be dealt with accordingly,as should the owner.

No one's disputing that, but in the bigger picture it matters a lot that the media are calling them the wrong breed.

  8. My ears were burning

I'm pretty sure under the FAQs it says that all the leather we use is premium bridle leather. I could be wrong though, it's several years since I wrote it! If you have any concerns about the hardware feel free to email me. I wasn't trying to hide anything with trick photography. The buckles and d-rings are all stainless steel or solid brass. All our products have a ten year guarantee also.

There are squillions more photos on our Facebook page > http://www.facebook.com/ruthlessleather

Thanks very much for the suggestions :) I should mention that I'm dealing with an extremely intelligent and strong bitch that will open up cheap rings, snap plastic and undo anything else by rubbing it the right way on a tree/fence/brick work as soon as your back is turned  Failing collars are not conducive to solid training. Poor quality collars caused this issue in the first place.

It's really very difficult to buy anything leather online without being able to feel the quality of it, isn't it? I did like the look of the "no frills" collar by Ruthless Leather but for $135 I can't even see a mention what type of leather they are or even a picture of the buckle. Call me stingy but I have bridles with a lot more quality leather and workmanship in them than this and they don't seem good value in comparison. These look the part I suppose but the k9pro leather ones seem more "transparent online shopping experience" to me. Call me sceptical.

All suggestions very much appreciated. I am not much of an online shopper.

  9. i want to see the pic straight after, did they all get one each , or did one grab them all

I gave Trixie hers and while I was looking at Jackson's to see if there was a paper cup the others all grabbed theirs and ran away. I never did find out if there was paper. I guess I will soon enough!

  10. How long did that photo take to get

    Happy birthday !!

How long do you think I can get five dogs to sit there with petit fours in front of them?! I only took 8 photos and this was the first one. Jackson was struggling with the whole "sit and wait and they're not all for you" concept!

so L-R it's Chopper, Bruno, Trixie, Jackson and Angel, right?

I dont think I've ever got my 5 to even stand side by side for a photo, so I'm impressed at your training.

and that's good news about Trixie too.

That's right :) With this many rescue bull breeds in the house it's very important that they all know how to do what they're told!
