  1. It's not just PDE though, it's the rspca and other groups pushing the don't buy adopt and lumping registered breeders in with puppy farmers. There is a real backlash against breeders and you only have to talk to the average person in the street to see the general attitude and it's very negative. You have the gardener led fad for crossbreds and I don't see community attitudes under attack at all, it's very specific about who are being made the bad guys.
  2. I don't know what the solution is. Breeders were vilified for advertising puppies and breeding more than one litter in a blue moon and now there's a problem. We try to tell people to buy from registered breeders but there aren't enough puppies to meet the demand. There are a lot of people who just want a dog and don't want to wait, they don't see things the same we do so they won't go on a long waiting list. They also won't make it through the vetting process. They are the ones who buy from pet shops or DDs and unless we stop them having dogs altogether I can't see how that market can be stopped. Education isn't enough because people refuse to change their minds on how they think dogs should be kept.
  3. I also requested videos Sure thing. This is Gabe, he does agility Agility Bulldog Also an agility Bulldog My link And another one (this dog has a heap of titles) My link You can't paint and entire breed by a few bad examples. I know some Bulldogs down here who are quiet energetic. They have no issues keeping up with my Samoyeds in the generals ring. But wouldnt it be great if those examples were the norm? Wouldn't it be great if someone can come to a forum and say my dog cant walk very far without being in distress and have the normal response be thats not typical instead of it being typical? To me they are normal. As I pointed out, the Bulldogs I'm use to seeing can move very happily. What Bulldog person came on here saying their dog couldn't move? I've seen people who don't own Bulldogs making comments about a breed they don't own. I'm not saying that the whole breed is fine but I am saying that seeing one or two bad examples isn't a good enough reason to blanket an entire breed as unhealthy. Well thats true but its been every bull dog I have seen and I love them they are awesome temperament wise and I hope that maybe the bad breeders will get run out of the breeding business and let the professionals do it. And every Bulldog you met was a pedigree was it? How many dogs are we talking about here? I hope bad breeders vanish too. It would be wonderful. yes they were pedigreed prob talking maybe 100+ in the 10 years in my vet tech days. I love the breed and am not knocking or trying to good bulldog breeders What you are saying now is very different to what you said above, do you really wonder why BB people are defensive when this sort of thing gets trotted out?
  4. Ok fine have it your way, the bulldog is awesome and the healthiest breed in the world there is nothing wrong with them and I suggest everyone go get one because your vet bills will be nil since they are no healthy. Is that better? There is no denying it and I still don't agree with how they are built in the majority I have seen. Have fun denying that things need to change for the dogs. If you are going to make claims then they need to be accurate and you should be happy to stand behind them. It sounds like a massive exaggeration to me. No one ever said there aren't some BB breeders doing the wrong thing, but the claims that every one of them is unhealthy is incorrect. Did you bother to watch the videos of the happy active BBs?
  5. So you saw over 100 purebred registered BBs. Say each breeder had 10 dogs (being generous) you saw that is about 10 registered breeders who show in that area. Really?
  6. Someone telling you their dog is pedigree is not the same as the dog actually being a registered purebred. You ask some people if their dog has papers and they say yes, it turns out it is some photocopies of some dogs pedigree and they got it from the petshop. So basically you have no proof those BBs were bred by registered breeders.
  7. I'm only doing minimal training, mainly to move my lambs around. I'll be over in Canberra for about 5 weeks soon though so I hope to go to some training days.
  8. The type of illnesses you think you can diagnose from photos are not specific to BBs. How can photos of general illnesses tell you the health of a specific breed? You were the one who said all BBs are unhealthy so don't be surprised when people make an effort to prove you wrong.
  9. I also requested videos I just went and checked YouTube, found a video of a BB whelping a litter of 7 and one of a BB running amok while out for a walk. Took me less then 2 minutes to find them. Are you sure they weren't animatronic because apparently that's impossible
  10. I wouldn't determine the health of a dog via a photo. I'm not sure how anyone could. I've seen enough in real life to know that bbs are at a severe disadvantage. Breeders can justify it all they like but action in a positive direction is much better. I'm glad to see that they are working toward fixing these issues. And photos are great ways to determine health, we use them in a vet nursing assignments all the time. You have an existing bias so I don't know why you want to see pictures and videos of BBs. You've already decided they are inherently unhealthy.
  11. Who do you think would be putting up pics of their dogs if they had issues bad enough to identify from a photo? There are plenty of brachy dogs that are happy and healthy, they just don't get the same attention as they don't support the AR argument that EVERY brachy dog is unhealthy.
  12. The only way you could tell state of health was if there were close ups of body parts that were affected such as skin, teeth etc. like you'd find in text books. There is no way to tell health from a stacked picture.
  13. I'd take a camera and take a picture of her and when she asks say you are gathering evidence to show harassment. What a sour old bitch, hope she doesn't cause any more trouble.
  14. That is not an attack, but an observation, there is nothing personal in there, just a presentation of facts.
  15. I don't know, your second post and first thread is saying that a AR type video is food for though, you tell me what that makes you?
  16. I actually said second post, you can go back and see what I said, it will still be there. When I see a thread like this I automatically check the post count of the poster and it was your second post. If you have been showing dogs for as long as you say then you should have a good idea of what is happening. To spread this type of video around does the purebred world no favours. When the public see this sort of thing they extrapolate it to all breeds, especially on top of PDE and other negative propaganda. Have you seen the numbers of puppies bred and the numbers attending shows, it is dropping sharply. People are tired of being called puppy murdering shonks. I don't think domestic dogs will disappear but you'll be hard pressed to find a purebred, they'll all be DDs.
  17. But she started this thread, she didn't just join in. Why join a forum of purebred dog breeders with your first thread is about what "they" are doing to dogs. It's just another nail in the coffin.
  18. Where pyrs traditionally left in the paddock alone dogs? Did they have reason to leave their flocks? I can see why they would have an off duty mode if they weren't full time guardians.
  19. Sorry, meant to use stimuli rather than distractor. I'm such a dummy these days, I should come with an interpretation manual  I live in the country and can only find other dogs by driving to some random strange dogs and have to hope they stay far enough away. If I'm too close he won't ever look at me so no chance to catch that behaviour. I have a clicker so that's no problem. Just need to practise it because it is counter-intuitive and will take a bit of getting used to.
  20. That may be the case and its you prerogative how your husband your dogs. But that's not advice I'd be willing to give others, if I was thinking of others, of course.   I don't think Clyde husbands her dogs  She might however be responsible for their husbandry I don't think you can expect strong dogs like guardian breeds to switch off when taken away from their paddocks. If you breed for non reactive dogs then you would dilute down the valuable guarding trait.
  21. My coolie is a real dickhead around other dogs so I'm thinking of trying LAT (hadn't heard of it before). He recalls fine when working but is really reactive with dogs. Biggest problem is finding a distractor at the right distance away.
  22. The second post you made was the first one in this thread, why have you joined?
  23. That's true now you mention it, it is very specialised and I'll remind the old coots of that next time they are telling me my dog is no good
