  1. You really should lose your obsession with collars. It takes nothing for a person to remove a collar from an animal they found. What if your dog snaps his break away collar if it gets caught on something (as it's designed to do) does that automatically mean you don't care about him? Maybe stop assuming that your way is the only right way, there are plenty of people who chose not to have collars on their dogs because of a LOT of experience.
  2. Maybe the prong collar should be named the fluffy ducking approach collar because it's clear to see that the people who are violently opposed to it don't have a clue and just react. I don't have a need for it on my dogs but have seen it in action and it's a great tool for certain dogs that are destined to be PTS. Talk about ignorance dictating policy yet again Corvus, I think you should really apologise to K9 BTW.
  3. Every second dog here is a malt shih tzu cross or staffy cross and the FB page for pets, every day I die a little more inside
  4. Unless people step forward and willingly allow themselves to be test subjects for new drugs then animals are needed. If you have ever taken anything prescribed by a doctor or bought painkillers etc then you have taken something tested on animals. I'm not a supported of inhumane research, but unless we give up modern medicine or people agree to be tested then we need animals in medical research.
  5. Good to see you are getting professional help Luke. Growling at you needs to be nipped in the bud before it escalates and you are in a much worse position.
  6. Are there any training days coming up in SA? I have a coolie who has worked on a dairy farm and has the basics but needs more education, which I do too.
  7. People do manipulate the system and unfortunately it is going to impact those who have a genuine need. Pers and PF said it all though, couldn't agree more.
  8. Impossible, it's a genetic mess that desperately needs to be outcrossed, SS said so
  9. Oh don't get me started on him prime example of how to do bad science and promote your bad science ideas to push your own agenda.
  10. Might be accurate for your breed, but what about the other breeds? We've already seen that you quoted inaccurate data for chi's, and if they are relying on owner reporting for breed then the whole database is suspect. The problem is people are too quick to trust scientists and think the sun shines out of their bottoms. You are proof of that SS because you keep posting links without thinking about the content critically. The decision makers are doing the same, guilty until proven innocent is right, doesn't matter that there is no credible data to back up their ideas, they are just jumping on the anti breeder bandwagon.
  11. and the reason I'm giving up, there is too much ignorance and bad science to combat.
  12. We should perhaps be clear that this is a list of both congenital and hereditary conditions complied by LIDA. Some of the conditions are listed as a result of a vet seeing a dog in their clinic that the owner says is that breed and reporting the condition for the database. There is no indication in this list which are genetic and which are congenital as a result of (for example) one reporting. I will give an example: The listing of Vaginal Hyperplasia for Pyrenean Mountain Dog was the result of a vet seeing a puppy of that breed with a mild case of this condition (which later corrected as the pup grew) and reporting it to the database. All you need to do is send your evidence that the disease listed is not present in your breed and they will remove it, I know this because I have done it. So basically, they just list diseases for a breed with no proof If what you said is true and they'll remove a disease from a breed list if you show evidence it isn't present then what are they using for proof it is present in the first place? If they are using data from vets and the owner is the one reporting breed then that is very scary because a lot of people report their crossbred is a purebred or it is from a farm or BYBer who doesn't care about health. Surely you can see why this data you are relying on is suspect.
  13. Forget what their policy is in the UK, do you believe that we should be having an open studbook for all breeds here in Australia? You keep posting about the UK system, so you must be trying to tell us something. Do you think the ANKC should have open stud books for all breeds?
  14. So can you clarify that what you have said above is true, you'd like to see an open studbook for all breeds, even those with no health issues? A yes will suffice.
  15. I thought I was the gardener? I make a good effort to keep the inbreeding as low as possible in my dogs. Then why not respect the fact that you aren't the only one who can successfully breed healthy purebred dogs, if you can do it so can others in their breed. You still haven't answered the question about what will be achieved by opening the stud books on breeds that don't have health issues. Opening the stud book so that dog breeders breed by type is exactly what the Gardener wants, along with his view that the world will be better off with crossbred dogs, which BTW is a consequence of opening all the stud books.
  16. You know, suspect that SS's gripe about purebreds boils down to the old show versus working lines. A permanently open stud book means there is no breed, you have said it yourself, breed type, but not a breed. Do you outcross your poor inbred ANKC dogs?
  17. No, I'm not over reacting or looking for things to be outraged over, I just can't stay silent while the same ill informed opinion continues to be posted. If the subject matter weren't so serious then I wouldn't care. I'm not the only person here who sees what I see BTW. You try talking to someone who has an extreme view but refuses to concede when they are actually wrong. Why the buggery would anyone want to open a studbook for a breed that has no health issues, it's madness, yet that is what SS is saying. SS is overreacting and taking what is happening in a few breeds and applying it to all, which is baffling.
  18. Just a small selection. But SS is apparently part of this whole thing, unless they outcross their ANKC dogs, which means they aren't ANKC breeds anymore. Or SS is doing the same thing that they condemn above.
  19. Maybe you haven't read all the same posts we have, because it is all there in black and white if you read them all.
  20. Pat Rafter, your wife needs to get with the times, he is so old school. The thing is with SS, they have posted some insulting things about breeders and other things that are a result of a combination of ignorance and an agenda. The insulting posts were where SS has said that by their very definition purebreds are unhealthy because they are all inbred. When some people attempted to discuss the fact that there are some breeds that are not in "crisis" as asserted by SS and perfectly fine the way they are, SS ignored that and continued an uneducated diatribe. So basically, SS insulted every registered breeder on DOL. Now if you are going to come out with views that go against what is known to be correct and factual and alienate a large group of people on their own specialist forum then you need to be wo/man enough to own it.
  21. SS said he/she has ANKC dogs earlier in this thread, but maybe not then
  22. Only if you equate inbreeding and ANKC as the same thing. I see it is disucssing some current issue in dog breeding that seem to be very uncomfrotable for a few people, to the point they make personal attacks. I do not find that amusing. You have basically said that all purebreds are in crisis and all are inbred and that is the cause of all the issues. Now you are trying to tell us that you are also breeding purebreds, which by your definition makes you guilty of breeding genetic messes that are all unhealthy due to the fact they are inbred because they are purebred. You said it earlier, your own words. So, do you breed unhealthy dogs then? You pooed pooed poodlefan when she tried to explain that some breeds are perfectly fine and are not in dire need of rescue from animal rights people. You refuse to give any information on what breeds you have so we have to guess based on your posts.
  23. i wasn't thinking of the gardener i was thinking SS sounds alot like someone i used to debate the same subjects with a very long time ago on here infact. sounds very similar to this other person that use to frequent the boards. perhaps they have come back under a new name? we still don't know who this person is, they aint telling us. You have to love the front of someone who doesn't breed ANKC dogs telling the ANKC people how it should be done
