If it works so well then why can't any scientific studies prove it does? There are none, zero, zilch. If there is an effect then it would be detected in double blind studies correctly controlled. The fact that the effect can't be replicated suggest the effect is a combination of placebo effect and just plain getting better. If you want to read all the arguments we had a mammoth thread not long ago. It is just water, you can't even detect any active compounds, shaken water is still just shaken water. Homeopathy should not be classed as an alternative medicine and I feel it is important to give people both sides, especially when they are putting their animals at risk on the anecdotal word of someone else.

Morphological methods of distinguishing dingoes from hybrids are extremely unreliable. I wouldn't be confident of stating either way without a DNA test quite frankly. That is the main problem with the culling - there is no reliable way of choosing how to shoot hybrids only and alot of information concerning the dingo is biased and colloquial - not based on scientific research. Obviously my word cannot be taken as gospel because the only way to determine 100% is to get your hands on them and test them. But they just have something about their appearance that isn't dingo. I have done scientific work with dingos BTW, I'm quite fond of them and am not advocating shooting these guys based on my word. I may actually be putting out the word to rehome some shortly, 100% pure. If you are interested in seeing some of the work I was involved in watch catalyst tonight, my buddy has a story on his PhD dingo cognitive work.

I've got a bit of experience with pure dingos and sorry, but they don't look pure.

As you might also remember, I have no emotional investment in what others want to say. And it's funny that you talk about remembering, like I've forgotten everything. I might go away and come back again in another six years, but I doubt the bullying and intimidation will have changed. BTW: You should be finished your PhD. Three and a half years should have been more than adequate. Well you seemed to have to be shown your old posts to jog your memory earlier, you completely denied saying anything until it was reposted word for word. You called people a bunch of names and then you accuse them of bullying when they talk back I've taken breaks during the PhD, once to restart in a different state and the second because of debilitating ill health. I don't care if you think I should have finished it earlier, it will be handed in soon and all is fine. BTW, I've also worked on projects about dog attacks and can say with some authority that you are talking out your bottom on the topic of this thread

you'd be surprised at how many PhDs are here. So next time you are tut tutting at us, the great unwashed mass remember that some of us are way ahead of you in tertiary education ;) Oh yes. jdavis has a PhD. You told us so six years ago. And you might like to change; "some of us are way ahead of you in tertiary education" to "some of us were way ahead of you in tertiary education," although I can't see how it matters other than you think it's all about rankling feathers. I really don't know any other PhD's who'd bother. Actually, I did not say I had a PhD 6 years ago, I was starting it then so why would I claim to have completed it 6 years ago, your memory playing up again So, didn't you recently post that you were beginning a Masters, not completed a PhD? While it is common to talk of such things, I think you need taking down a notch or ten because your posts reek of your own desperate need to outsmart the poor "uneducated dupes". The more you lose an argument the bigger the words become and then you start on the insinuation that we are all just easily impressionable simpletons because we don't agree with your stance. Fact is, police can go where they like if there is a belief that a crime is in commission and in fact one state doesn't even require their police have a warrant to search in some circumstances. You are wrong, it's pretty simple. The police have a right to enter a property even if some numpty has an ACCESS DENIED sign up. You are also wrong that the victim of this dog attack was the cause, he wasn't even in the yard and he got attacked. Imagine if some heinous crime such as making a crap you tube video was occurring and they had to get in fast before it caused an Apocalypse, they'd have to shoot the dog and I don't blame them!

Well some of us dupes who agree with Jeff actually have more education than you so there goes that theory huh PW. You might think that the posters here are a bunch of pink velour wearing shut ins, but you'd be surprised at how many PhDs are here and how many think you are wrong on just about everything that comes from your fingers. So next time you are tut tutting at us, the great unwashed mass remember that some of us are way ahead of you in tertiary education ;) I only have two Honours degrees. I are unedumacated. We can no longer be friends, one simply cannot associate with an uneducated dupe, oh the huge manatee

Well making videos are worthy of execution, so does that trump the rights of the dog? I'm truly confused about how things work in PW land
-
Here's an ethical dilemma for you PW, you have a very stupid guy in a house making a very stupid you tube video and the police could stop him uploading it and arrest him, but he has an ACCESS DENIED sign on his fence and a dog out the front barking at them, what should they do
-
This is what happens when people don't understand the true meaning of hybrid vigour and mistake it for heterozygosity as sandgrubber says. Goodbye lines clear of certain genes.
-
So basically you are saying that they should arrive at the call out, yell out to the occupants and wait for them to come out. Then, they politely ask the resident to secure the dog/s so they can enter the premises. If the resident doesn't come out or refuses to restrain the dog/s then they are powerless and just have to leave. Hostage/domestic violence victim etc just has to take their chances and too bad if they die while the police figure out a way to get past the dog and the ACCESS DENIED sign.
-
Wow you are a lucky guy, two visits in a month from the hunky men in blue uniforms  I should have my ACCESS DENIED signs ready for this afternoon, who's with me on a crime spree, we'll clean up!
-
I believe this is correct. People have a legal right to access your front door. This means you are responsible if your dog bites someone who, having entered your property, is going to or coming from the front door. It was established on this very website, nearly six years ago by Jed, that a person/s can be restricted from entering your property, by having a sign clearly displaying: ACCESS DENIED. Then anyone wanting to enter your property has to take alternative steps. Trespass is a French term meaning "a path through" No trespass means no path through. Access denied means 'No! You cannot open the gate and walk up to the front door' ETA: It wouldn't hurt to have a lock on the gate as well. So I could rob a bank, police see me run into my house, they come after me and I yell out stop, and point to a sign that says ACCESS DENIED and they stop, shake their heads and go away? COOL!

I look on ARAZPA later, but the number in captivity is too small to maintain them as a species for very long. Then there is the issue of the different phenotypes from different regions, which makes each subset captive population even smaller. I'm pretty sure Wilton has devised a very accurate method to determine purity based on phenotype of living dingos now, whereas before you had to have the actual cleaned skull. I'd talk to the WA dingo people though, but as others have said, not much they can do and you can only hope they hurry up and move away.

Exactly, they don't have the might to tackle the hard targets so instead they overdo their attacks on soft targets as they have to be seen to be doing something. But nothing I say is going to have any impact so I guess you can just wait for the new rspca driven laws and see the effects yourself. MrsRB, do you think a check chain is a cruel training device BTW?

Compare the number of horses who endure rollkur with the number of battery hens in Australia and tell me which issue needs more attention.
-
Having a book published is no guarantee the author knows what they are on about, all it means is someone published their book. I've left the horse world behind, so the gradual push by animal rights groups to eliminate horse sports won't affect me. I've also decided to walk away from registered dogs, I think all the damage has been done and there is no going back. At least there are enough researchers out there who understand and support animal conditioning to counteract any rspca hysteria on training. I'm not referring to rollkur, very few people support this or do it so I can't understand why it needs much attention. I can't think of any other animal training in the zoo community or dog related training that warrants the rspca's special attention either. Guess the rspca needs the PR machine to keep rolling or the donations dry up.
-
I wonder how many horses he has jumped in his life then. Great, now he's an expert on showjumping
-
They may be doing some lobbying but they don't put as much effort into production animal welfare as they do for soft targets. Battery hens are a far more serious issue than tail docking, why not put the same effort into the more pressing welfare problems as they do targeting dog breeders? I've been following factory farming issues for about 26 years and still hens are in tiny cages. There may be some lobbying but if they were serious they'd have made more progress by now. They don't have the balls to tackle the real welfare issues.
-
When the rspca put as much time and effort into getting hens out of battery cages and sows out of stalls as they do into harassing dog breeders I might gain back some of the respect I used to have for them. Until then I refuse to support them or attend any of their events.

All fingers will be crossed that the water goes lower than expected, good luck -
Well unfortunately the world isn't full of clones of you, it is full of people who cannot manage a dog with human aggression. Do I want those people being in charge of a dog that can inflict serious damage on me, my pets or other innocent people, no. There is a reason for the media dog bite hysteria and it is because of people who don't know how to handle or don't care enough about their dogs. Harsh reality is some dogs are too dangerous to risk being let live. You might be capable of spending unlimited time or money on a dangerous dog, but plenty of others aren't and it is the innocent dogs and owners and the community who pay the price.

Toowoomba Help For Pets In Need
Are You Serious Jo replied to Bullbreedlover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just spoke to him, said they've already donated and petstock did a run out there today. So they may give discounted prices but not sure if they'll give more outright donations, can't hurt to ask though. Others will probably donate goods though.
