  1. Rijbiz, how would i know what content of lead a fish does contain?

Sorry I have no idea. As I said I only feed mine tinned sardines a couple of times a week. Just knew that the fish was cheap at Rouse Hill because we used to buy it there for ourselves.

I can only tell you that we don't buy the Basa ourselves as it comes from Vietnam and I've heard that its pretty polluted - my opinion only. We always bought Australian fish.

I believe only the larger deep sea fish contain levels of mercury etc but again I'm relaying what other people have told me and I don't know all the facts. I don't think it would apply to anything you caught in Australia (at least I'd hope not).

Good luck with your fishy meals, I hope your dogs enjoy them

  2. Also, where do you buy? As I have had a look at my local fish shop and is quite pricey, not wanting to spend any more than $5-10 per kg (Depending on how fleshy the fish is) Im in Sydney, close to rouse hill/parramatta if anyone can sugguest a good quality low cost location thats close to me to source from ...?

I can't advise on feeding raw fish as I only give mine canned sardines, but the cheapest place in the area is Woolworths at the new Rouse Hill Shopping Centre. You should be able to buy something like Basa in your price range.

Saying that, Basa is imported from Vietnam and I would also check out lead content etc which you get with some bigger fish.

  3. Really sorry to hear Sierra is not well. Both of mine have had something similar in the last couple of weeks.

The only thing I have done different is as soon as they finish their antibiotics I give them a dollop of natural yogurt on their biscuits.

Don't know if it actually works but my vet advised me to do it to replace good bacteria.

    They definately enjoy it

  4. I too feed Eagle Pack Holistic. Find my guys go really well on it and even the vet said they looked fantastic and asked about their diet.

Used to use Eukanubra but it didn't seem that special for the price.

Have also used Advance and although the dogs love it, they definately do better on the Eagle Pack.

  5. I get "Inner Health Plus Dairy Free" from the health shop. Not cheap but a great alternative and you can take it too  Obviously keep it in the fridge as its full of live bacteria. If you decide to go this way, make sure you let them know its the dairy free.

I give one capsule daily as maintenance.

  6. Just spoke to Brierdene, they sound so nice and are Show people with Afghans, and I've booked my two in for two nights while we do the Royal :o

I always use Brierdene for my Ridgies and I've never had any problems.

The owners are Afghan breeders (Khandu Afghans) and also show judges. Very knowledgeable.

    Would definately recommend them.

  7. My BMD Zephyr is approaching 13 months old and I still have him on puppy food, (Eagle Pack Holistic Large/Giant Breed Puppy). Just wondering when you all switch/ed to adult food? Because he's a large/giant breed, I've heard he can stay on puppy food up to two years old! But i've also heard 18 months, so just wondering what you all think. Thanks :)

I've got four Rhodesian Ridgebacks (10yrs, 4yrs, 15 months and 12 months) and I feed them all Advance. At six months they go from Puppy to adult food and I also don't feed them "large breed" varieties as I don't want them to grow too quickly and become "bum high". Hope this helps.

  8. My GSD has been attacked quite badly in the past week by flies. I thought they had died down a bit and didnt put fly spray on her for a few days and now the poor thing has been really bitten. When I discovered she had been bitten I put fly spray on her head and near her ears but I didnt want to hurt her on the already sore bits so I missed them. I put some paw paw ointment to heal them but all that did was seem to attract more flies and dirt. Today they are icky.

I have bathed them with some salt water and applied some Dettol antiseptic cream and she is inside. Is there anything else I should do? How often should I bathe them? She still has some of that black crusty type stuff (not sure if its fly crap or dirt from the paw paw ointment) on there but I dont want to clean too hard in case it hurts her. I would love to put some pawpaw ointment on while she is inside but I have NEW CARPET :) . I really dont want it all stuck to the carpet if I can help it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh and my staffy hasn't one single bite.

One of my girls gets this quite bad in summer and I used to apply Panalog (available from the vets), until someone told me to rub vaseline on her ears. Decided to give it a try and although its not the best look (greasy ears), it really does work - just wash it off when we have a show.

I also spray them with fly repellant available from most horse stores.

  9. Just wondering what dry food breeders feed to large/giant breeds? Any extra information on dry foods welcomed.

    thank you in advance. :)

I've got 4 large breed dogs and feed them Advance, used to feed Eukanubra but swopped after I found out that Advance is the only one made in Australia from Australian products. I have no problems with this food and their coats are great. Do not feed them large breed variety after 6 months old as I find it makes them grow too quickly and they can end up "bum high".
