Animal Lovers That Dislike Children
SkySoaringMagpie replied to LizT's topic in General Dog Discussion
We're going to need shots of Zac (Irish Wolfhound for those who don't know him) and Cakes together - but be prepared for IW slobber!! Perhaps what is really needed here is a cowgirl outfit for Pancake and a saddle for Zac. -

hey wait for me, Mags. I'm bringing Pancake out to the specialty shows at Easter to meet you. I'll ask you if she looks nice in her little dolly dress. Hope you have selected co-ordinated booties and a bonnet - will she be travelling in a LV knock off handbag or by pram? -

Dogs aren't capable of much, so you don't have to put yourself on the line and be vulnerable as you do with other people. One can also project pretty much what one wants to onto a dog to meet one's own emotional needs because a dog can't correct the narratives and scripts that humans come up with. I think the people who put their dogs in sweaters and skirts while simpering "come to mummy", while pathetic, are often less dangerous than people who consider themselves on special mission to demonstrate their superiority to the great unwashed. This manifests everywhere, and perhaps nowhere more strongly than in rescue tho' trainers, breeders & exhibitors also get caught up in it. There's a whole rant I have brewing in my head on this subject and it's been brewing for a month or two but this thread is probably not the place for it. I'll probably inflict it on Diva or Telida Whippets over lunch one day instead -
There's a lot of good local info in the pinned thread and there is no Australian book, so if it were me I would make the time to read it. The canine controls each publish basic information on showing. Some also run classes for newbies. The book with the best advice on etiquette and politics for newbies is Caroline Coile's "Show Me" which has a very good chapter titled "The Secret of Success" towards the end of the book. She's North American but her advice about that stuff applies everywhere. Pat Hastings "Tricks of the Trade" is also worth a read, again, an American book.

Irish Native Breeds On Television

They are just getting off the ground I think, I saw one at Forbes last year - I'm not a huge terrier fan but I thought he was great! -

Your mixed metaphor is strangely appropriate. Assume you don't want people to answer because you knew you were saying something that would get a rise. A bit tacky in a thread where people have talked about their pain about not being able to have kids. -

The full notice: Please be advised that as of 4.30pm this afternoon a decision has been made to cancel the Tumut Show Dogs Section along with all other outdoor events on the Showground. Unfortunately many many roads into Tumut are cut by floodwaters, and the treacherous nature of these roads makes it unsafe to hold the show. The road into the showground is also unsafe and for the safety of competitors, dogs, judges and steward the decision has been made to cancel. The BOM is forecasting more severe weather for the region anything up to 200mm in the next few days. We do apologise to competitors. Please cross post and pass on to as many people as possible. In my breed, some different styles - all unmistakably Salukis tho', and very influential ones. Vandal Impulse Sarona Kelb Alexandra of Daxlore And these are all English Salukis, American is different story again, as are desert bred dogs like this, the sire of my Bahraini girl:

Hi RV, there's a terminology issue here that is often misunderstood. There is only one type per breed. The breed type is what tells you when you look at the dog - "that is definitely a Saluki" - rather than a Sloughi, or an Azawakh, or a Chart Polski, or a heavily patterned Afghan etc. There are different styles within a breed. The styles tell you (usually) what the heritage of the dog is likely to be, and while we all have our preferences about style, it can't override the breed type.

Rant From A P*ssed Off Show Secretary
SkySoaringMagpie replied to Rebanne's topic in General Dog Discussion
I guess we all have our pet peeves. Mine is "chatting". I work full time in a demanding career, and have 7 dogs and a property to look after. I have time to answer a question, I do not have time to listen to the cute thing that BooBoo did, or long winded reasons why someone wants a favour. Either I can do something in compliance with the regs or I can't. 9 times out of 10, it is dependent on how far show arrangements have progressed, not whether you were in Africa saving starving babies and missed the gazette, or whatever. I far prefer email, because that way I can get to it in my own time and both the exhibitor and I have a record of what was agreed. -
Yes, you'll see the best poodle in each variety plus the best of each age class then. So not as many as you'll see for breed judging but you should be looking at the cream of the crop.

Usually on the first day of the Royal the catalogue is posted online. I'm sure Sway will update us when it is.

Some of the passes are single use only passes without pass out. DG, if you don't get a pass out and you are successful on Saturday and need to go back Sunday, go to the office window and ask them for a pass for Sunday. This would also apply to breeds on Thursday where a pass is not required for entry.

Sorry about that Bug, that was my stuff up with quoting.

That was partly my fault, I ranted off on a tangent about Facebook after experiencedfun mentioned the eyeglazing factor of some bragging. As Diva mentions, context counts for a lot. Edited to add that I introduced the word naff, and I used it about two specific behaviours, neither of which were about putting BIS/BISS at the front of a dog's name.
-
Especially if you've altered your dogs eye colour from faulty to correct in the very same picture you had posted previously. ;) Have no idea why someone would do this, eyes can change a lot depending on the light and the angle of the shot so why not just take a flattering photo? Unless the eyes were bright yellow or something...
-
Yep, especially if all they ever post is brags. I'm interested in your brag if I have some kind of two way relationship with you or you post interesting stuff about the breed or you're a newbie. If not it just becomes part of the never ending eye glazing stream of PR on FB. Also, while I'm here having a bitch, it is naff to post show PR pictures of you and your dogs in the weeks leading up to a speciality or major show. It is also naff to post obviously photoshopped pictures - I saw a hilarious one the other day where the coat on the back of the dog was perfectly still and at the front it was blowing in the breeze on top of obviously photoshopped grass

Working Out Genes For Colour In My Dogs

Hard to think of something appropriate to say that doesn't sound "wrong" or somehow presumptuous, but I take my hat off to you for following through. Give sweetie a pat for me.
