  1. hi bully express Sledding sounds like fun. I can imagine Lulu doing it, but can't imagine Jonty (although he'd have the muscle). I can't believe you have ridgies doing it!!!! The hardest thing Jonty does all day is pull himself up off the bed to move onto the couch and vice versa Is their a level of obedience for this sort of thing???? I might go have a look on Sunday I'd like to do tracking with Lulu too, she has a good nose and loves sniffing things
  2. Awwww he's a good looking rooster Makes me want to hear the pitter patter of little feet again. What is with that half sit on the couch / half stand on the floor thing - Jonty does that too
  3. Jonty was raised on Royal Canin Maxi junior and is now on the Adult version (he is two). His breeder was really happy with his condition when she saw him last week. I do carefully control his intake v exercise and he doesn't get alot of treats. Just curious (for those who know such things) would this puppys breeding make him Large or Giant?????
  4. Congratulations Erny... He is absolutely gorgeous  Sigh, so ridgie puppy clucky now ...
  5. I took a week off when we got Jonty and then came home at lunch-times for a few months whilst he was on three meals a day
  6. Oh, I'll be careful with what I put on it... I'm sure it must be a sensitive area :D In the end, work has let me have some more time off, so I can keep an eye on the little bugger for the next few days :D
  7. I don't think he could... it is huge and definitely wider than the entrance to his kennel. He could probably figure it out. He definitely can't drink with it on. I don't even like leaving normal collars on them unsupervised and it wouldn't last two seconds with Lulu anyway (mmmmm plastic) I can come home at lunch-time and check up on them as I'm not too far away  I don't think the stiches are bothering him, he just really wants to clean that area and I won't let him (evil mummy aren't I  ). I got some Chew Stop, if that doesn't work, I'll try the vicks thanks i haz flava
  8. Maybe try Canine Tranquil Formula by Vetalogica (link here: www.vetalogica.com.au/Products/CanineTranquil) I don't know about aggression, but I use it to help with anxiety issues, namely thunderstorms with Lulu. I read about it on DOL and bought it from a chemist. It just seems to take that nervous edge off
  9. Oh yeah, didn't think about eating or drinkin - doh! He's happy enough to have it on to sleep with, but walks around like the most unloved creature on earth or some weird cross between a dog and a vacuum as he refuses to lift his head up with it on  I can't believe how huge the EC is... I reckon he must be picking up a couple of extra channels with that on ;) I don't think work would be too impressed if I bought him in for three days, even though he would probably snooze under my desk and may stop people coming in and annoying me with stupid question
  10. Thanks Sir WJ Our laundry really isn't suitable for him, mainly as it's the cats area and she would be mighty peed off. We actually used to leave him in our spare bathroom when he was little, however OH only just got round to fixing up the scratched walls in there, so I don't think he'd be too happy for me to leave him in there again ;) I'm pretty sure they spend most of the day asleep, with the odd little tussle every now and then, so this Wound Guard product should be okay.... Cheers
  11. Jonty was desexed on Monday. I have been home with him since then, so have been able to keep an eye on him and deter him from licking his stitches and also from running around or playing rough with Lulu. He's been pretty good, but occasionally sneaks around that area whilst cleaning himself. He doesn't seem to be too worried by them. At night I put his elizabethan collar on, which is a PITA for everyone concerned, but at least he can't reach his wound. I have to go back to work on Monday and am a little worried about leaving him in the EC in the backyard with Lulu unsupervised. I'm pretty sure she could just pull it off his head and it'll probably end up chewed up then. I'm also sure that he wouldn't be able to get into his kennel (which is his favourite place if it rains) or around certain areas of the yard (he might get stuck or something  ). He should get them removed on Thursday, so need to do something Monday to Wednesday whilst I'm at work. Is there something I can put on / around the area the deter licking???? The wound seems like it's healing okay, and it will have been 7 days since the surgery.
  12. I had a ramp thread a little while ago. I actually borrowed one from Arty, but Jonty never really got the hang of it. He did eventually learn to jump in the back though, just needs a run-up first Thread is here
  13. That looks like fun. Might go if I can get all the housework done Thanks for posting
  14. Go ROM Well done to both of you... Good to see Ridgies can excell at something other than wiggle bums and sleeping
  15. Hi CM Do you know which chemist your friend got it from??? Sounds interesting and I'd like to check it out for Lulu when she has her "troubles" :D ETA: Nevermind, I found a store finder on their website :D
  16. Hi Willow I've been thinking about this for my two also... Sounds like it could be fun and challenging (for dog and owner). Check out TrackWest website for details.
  17. Thanks Cosmolo I have her details on a list the vet gave me... he wouldn't vouch for any, but he did cross off the ones he'd heard "bad" things about I'll give her a call.... Cheers
  18. Hi all... I need to engage the services of a professional with regards to Lulu and her behaviour towards other dogs when on lead. If anyone can recommend a behaviourist that could assist I would be grateful. Northern Suburb preferred, but have car will travel  ... PM if you like. Cheers
  19. So young... too beautiful for this world, heart, body and soul, .... Run free and be in peace Condolences to Chopp Chop and family
  20. I'd be interested.... as long as it is okay for complete novices who know next to nothing (maybe he can dumb it down for me and I can sound out the words pho-net-i-cal-ly )... Seriously, I love the relationship I have with my dogs, but thier obedience and my leadership need alot of work - especially recall - especially with the ridgie who suffers from selective hearing I am watching the ecollar thread - very interesting... Like RG I have no idea what training in drive is (glad you said first ).
  21. Hi HFB.... Sorry to read about Ebonys HD. DOLers have once again been able to provide some excellent advice and I know you'll do your best for her - she is such a sweet little thing who wouldn't We have a pool too, however are probably a bit too far north for you. We haven't taken Lulu in yet, but Jonty will only get in by standing on one of the kids boogy boards that I'd hold onto and push him around on. Eventually he'd fall off and then dog paddle to the steps and run zoomies around the pool. Of course that was fine last summer when he was only 3 - 5 months old!!! Don't know how he'll go yet now that he's 40kgs or so - don't think he'll fit on the boards anymore Also Kong make a floating Kong that has a rope attached to one end that he would sometimes dive in for. Best of luck....
  22. Thanks for the replies everyone Guess the vet was trying to squeeze an extra few bucks out of me with the second set of xrays :D malleerr, thank you for your concern. I don't think there is a problem there, but would like it ruled out in any case. The vet was concerned because of stiffness he was showing in his hind legs when she tried to manipulate them, but she also conceded that it could be because he was a little tense. However given Jonty is a large breed, I would rather be in the know now than caught out in a few years time. I spoke to his breeder about it also, and obviously his parents were scored before they were used to breed from so there (hopefully) shouldn't be a problem. I'll be taking him to see his breeder in a couple of weeks, so she can give me her opinion of him then .... I'm sure all will be fine :D
  23. On a previous vet visit a few months ago, the vet mentioned that she had concerns about Jonty's hips and discussed hip dysplasia. When I took Lulu to the vet yesterday (different vet, same practice) I asked her at what age I should have Jonty screened for HD. She suggested now (he's just over 12 months) and that they would do it again at around 2 yrs, for comparison. Does this sound about right????? I'm assuming that HD is something that, like most things, is better caught early on than later, so that strategies can be put in to place to manage it... Also, it is my understanding that the x-rays are sent elsewhere to be "scored"... if so, are some places "better" at it than others, and can I request where/who they are sent to??? Thanks
