  1. Oh, another one, Do NOT feed someone else's dog without permission!!! You might think its nice giving a dog a treat but you don't know what they may have allergy's too. My puppy is a example, he reacts badly to different kinds of food and gets very bad Diarrhea. (Which is not fun to clean up)
  2. So I've started making YouTube dog training videos, and I've been thinking about possibly making a video on dog park/beach safety. Now I know a lot of you don't frequent off lead parks or beaches because they can be very unsafe, but in reality a whole lot of people do! Some of these people don't really know what's going on, they just want to take their dog out for a fun play with other dogs and have something awful happen. So a small video on some safety tips for the park would be really great. So what are some rules or tips that you can think of to make dog parks safer? Some of the things I've come up with are, When entering a fenced in park, if there are dogs lingering around the gate, wait until the entrance is clear so that you don't accidentally let a dog out or cause a situation by pulling your dog into something they aren't comfortable with. Stay close to your dog (or keep them close to you) and pay attention! It only takes 1 second for something to happen, and you don't want to be on the other side of a park when that happens. Make sure you have effective recall! You don't want you dog to be playing off lead with a dog you aren't comfortable with and be unable to call them back to you. Or if somebody accidentally lets them out, you want to be able to call them back! Do not let a on heat female off lead at the park, there could be entire males there! (Or better yet don't bring them) Theres loads more, but I'm trying to think of a short list of the most important, and put them into a 3-5 minutes long video! So, ideas anyone?
  3. Oh no! Your poor puppy !!!! Make sure you get a report and photos of the wounds from the vet to give to the council. Also write down everything that happened now and any detail about the dog also to give the council. My aunties dogs where attacked in Tasmania, and with a detailed description of the dog they where able it and they case is now going to court.
  4. Maybe try and get into conversation with them about the dog. You could make it known somehow that you're willing to take the dog if need be? Something much more subtle that "oh your little beagle was so gorgeous, can I have her?"
  5. Rover was desexed at 6 months, and he didn't start cocking his leg until he was about 2. And then there's Riddick, who is almost 6 months, and started cocking his leg when he was about 5 months.
  6. It's worse if they do own the breed. I met someone with this GSD, sweetest little girl. Next time I see them shes on a check chain!!! A 6 month old, very submissive and gentle girl on a check chain? They said it was cause the "breeder" (BYB I'm sure) had told them they need to keep her "in line". Because GSD's have been known to turn on their owners due to a chemical imbalance in their brain, and if they'r afraid of you they won't attack you, just other people... Glad you enjoyed it
  7. Lordy - if my boy could learn to make my dinner (the way I like it, not the way he'd have it, LOL), I'd even be more than happy to share it with him . ;) I can see it now. A lovely raw steak, scattered with a delicate later of cold roo mince. Delicious!!
  8. Would be great to see the expressions on some DOLers faces if that ever did happen though. Mine included
  9. And I'm saying you made the hasty assumption that this person was one of those who didn't want to be educated. (Though I messaged her and believe different.) I'm sure that after dozens of trolls finding there way here and trying to gain information, you can get a bit annoyed with it all, but the way I see it. If you are polite and respectful to every single one, you try to educate without being nasty about it, then maybe there will be one who listens. Then theres something you've changed. Rather than a opportunity you've lost because of hasty judgement. If this person turns out to be a awful BYBer, then at least I tried my best to be polite and helpful . I've sometimes called yellow labs gold. I didn't know you weren't supposed to ..learn something every day!
  10. I've learned over the years when to take the time to educate and when it is a waste of time as the person isn't interested. So why do you think puppy farmers still do it, after all, surely people have tried to educate them as well? Doesn't matter where the dog comes from, only takes too much loving and they'll become a barrel. Theres a difference between a puppy farmer, dogs shoved in tiny cages and bred like cattle. And a person who love their dog, perhaps doesn't understand everything in regards to hip and elbow scores. Bred their bitch once to a purebred male and won't breed her again. Then what gave you the idea that she wants to be a registered breeder, because even you have now said she said she won't be breeding again. Proved my point. I said she won't be breeding this girl again. She stated her idea that if in the future she does decide to breed her next dog, she would like to become registered. For her own peace of mind if nothing else.

  12. How do you know what she wants? Have you had some personal conversation where she told you her deepest desires? No. Because you have no idea who this person is. So, Why doesn't someone list reasons to become registered, and maybe create another loving registered breeder in the future, rather than just making someone else hate purebred dog owners. Someone coming on to whinge about $7 id tags is hardly going to want to pay $300+ to become a registered breeder. lovemesideways dosn't it bother you when people think your lovely labs are fat/lazy/stupid because mass produced generic labs are sent to homes that feed to much/dont exercise thier dogs/ don't train them that go on to produce more of the same. It certainly does. (They change their minds after meeting my 2 though ) But I know Labrador who has bad hip problems and a undershot jaw, he came from a registered breeder. Many who are overweight, again from registered breeders. A puppy coming from a registered breeder doesn't always mean they're going to be a sound, smart, amazing dog. Or have a owner who doesn't love them a little too much when it comes to the biscuit giving. It also annoys me when someone attacks someone rather than trying to help them. The way I see it, theres a opportunity to possibly educate someone here, rather than just attacking someone. How do you know what she wants? So, Why doesn't someone list reasons to become registered, and maybe create another loving registered breeder in the future, rather than just making someone else hate purebred dog owners. She basically said so. So you have no reasons to become registered then?

  14. How about you all give her reasons to become registered, rather than abusing her for not being. She's had the litter, whats done is done.
  15. I think the bit I bolded is what raised warning signals for people. The bands are $7, postage included. To say they are too expensive made me wonder and I obviously wasn't the only one. Well personally, I would pay thousands and more if needed on my dogs, but if I could do the Exact same thing for $10? I would certainly rather that option! So possibly the OP means she would rather not pay $7 per band when she could buy something similar for 10c. Then again I could be wrong.
  16. Kazzie Ignore everyone who's making a fuss over nothing. People on DOL can be very opinionated, and basically come across bitchy. They're nice when you get to know them though... Well most of them anyway And congratulations on the little ones!!! Hoping to see lots of photos !!!
  17. Good too see I'm not the only one who suffers from the specific problem
  18. The myth is this is the case for every dog, and it isn't. Be it by virtue of nature or nurture some dogs just don't push the boundaries or have any particular desire to usurp possition. While you'd have hell to pay with your girl over one lessening of a rule(in this case sleeping on the bed), others wouldn't with their dogs. I think the case for most dogs is that they're above their owners so thats why there isn't an issue. But you're right it depends on the individual dog. Do you mean to say that most dogs are "above" their owners in the pack? That they see themselves as the boss? Or am I interpreting that completely wrong

Exactly, neither of my dogs will ever have any problem with being let on the bed or couch or any higher surface of any kind. Just because something works for one dog doesn't mean it will work for any other.
  20. Never seen him scoot on the ground, and it doesn't seem to be at any particular time. He'll just be lying there and all of a sudden I'll get a gross whiff.
  21. If a dog sleeps with you on the bed he will become dominant or If a dog sleeps on your bed he is dominant and see's himself as the boss.
  22. Yeah me too!!!!!..... Riddick: "Oh Hai!!! Mums totally comfy.. she doesn't need to breathe "
