  1. Is this aimed at general dog owners or everyone?
  2. I think if both dogs are socialised, they could get along. A little OT but, What is a "aussie bulldog"? ;) Haven't heard of them before. Is it a recognized breed?
  3. Poor old man hope he is found. I'll keep a eye out on gumtree and trading post. On another note, am I the only one who wouldn't give a dog away for free? I think put a reasonable price on them so you know that who ever wants to purchase, can afford to pay vet bills. Then when they come to pick up, don't take the money.
  4. Rover will give a alert growl and/or bark if he sees someone at the door or outside. We haven't discouraged this as a few times he has alerted us to strange people at the door and in yard. One day there was some guy in our yard for an unknown reason, Rover went to the backdoor and barked 3 times. We let him outside and saw this guy bail over the fence and run off as big "scary" black dog was let out the door and came running towards him. Little did he know that Rover would have just wagged his tail and tried to lick his legs . (He loves summer, cause summer means shorts and lotsa legs to lick ) He has once barked in a way that made me think, that he was deadly serious. I was waiting to turn left and a guy got stuck waiting behind me. He starts beeping his horn, revving his car and inching slowly forward closer to my car (even though there where cars coming and there was no way for me to turn!). Rover was laying on the back seat. I was getting a little stressed from this guy, who I could see in my mirror was getting more and more agitated. Finally he gets out of his car, slamming the door and comes stomping towards me. Big guy too. I was freaked out so locked the doors. He comes up and slams on my window with his fist, swearing and yelling. Rover was on alert in a second, he stood up, growling deep in his throat and gave a few loud barks. The guy jumped back and then looked at Rover, who was staring out with window, growling, ears forward, tail up. He went to take a step towards the car again and Rover stepped closer to the window, barked again, still growling. The guy jumped back, and I looked back from rover and saw there was a break in traffic so drove quickly away. Second we drove off Rover completely relaxed again and lay back down. The way he stood and moved, I've never seen that before or since. It didn't look like he was at all uncertain, every inch of his body language said "Piss off and don't you care come closer." When the guy stepped forward, so did rover. There wasn't any hesitation. I could be wrong and it could have been fear or uncertainty. There have been other times when something just weirded him out and he barked or growled. At a shopping trolley in a random place (middle of a oval), random guy with a beer, kid in a hoody riding a small bike. In those situations though, the way he sounded and moved was different.
  5. It hasn't got bad extension in it's mouth also. True, but just look athe the topline, reach and drive and you can see how stretched it's muscles are - awesome *Nods wisely like she knows what you're talking about*
  6. Wasn't because Rover was up there cause he did the same thing when it was just him. Plus he can do anything to Rover, an rover just shrugs and trots off. He's been meeting friends at the park since he was 4 months, so he knows all the dogs. Just seems odd for a sudden change? He still seems to be panting. Not the loud open mouth panting from yesterday, just a quiet soft pant. It has been getting warmer here (Sydney) so that may have some effect! But you're right, i know him well and it seems odd. I'm gonna give my vet a call and see what he says!
  7. I've noticed that since this afternoon Riddick seems to be panting a bit excessively. For example, upstairs in my room and I called rover onto the bed. Then called riddick up. (they usually sleep in crates but occasionally in my room) as soon as riddick was on the bed he started panting loudly. So I kicked him off, continues panting for maybe 10 seconds then stopped. He isn't thirsty as he just had a drink about 2 minutes ago. Eveything else is normal (eating, drinking, pee, poo). No signs of obvious discomfort when I poked and prodded him. There have been similar incidents all day. We met with some friends and their dogs at a park. Riddick was off lead and playing with a female shepherd and when they took a break, I noticed he was panting so took him to the water bowl and he had a drink. Then we go back to the group and he starts panting again. Wasn't interested in the water when we went back over. So I know panting, as well as a sign of some illnesses, can also be a sign if anxiety or stress. It could be nothing but really it just seems out of the ordinary. He's sleeping peacefully on the blanket next to the bed now. I'm fairly sure that if I called him up onto the bed, he would start panting again, where as if I sent him to the mat in the corner he may not. Any ideas on what it could be? He's a 7 month old entire black Labrador. If he's still doing it tomorrow then we'll be off to the vet just to check it out. Rather be the over protective mum than miss something important.
  8. I stick one in a crate where they can see me training the other. Find it actually builds their drive. When I then swap them over, dog that comes out of the crate is just bursting to train!! I would let spot howl and whine.
  9. Considering the direction this thread has taken...
  10. Alright here's my 2 cents worth We need photos of your puppy by the way
  11. I loved the course but the administration are completely ridiculous. They seem to finally (FINALLY) be getting their act together. I still haven't received my official certification because of constant miscommunication with the staff administrators. There has been about 5 administrators since I did my course, and some assessments I sent where not received. So whatever you mail, be sure to scan in, follow up on it Constantly or you're going to end up in my boat. Which is very frustrating.
  12. Rover came to bring my mum out of her shell She's made so many friends and found more of a purpose in life because of him!! He introduced me to my true obsession with dogs. How much fun training a dog can be and how completely forgiving when you're being a twat Riddick came to me to push me into positive reinforcement training. Give me confidence in myself. Help me learn patience. and introduce me to new friends ! (and to slowly pull those darn spitz lovers into the Black Labrador loving world )
  13. I'm a 2 hour drive, but can't take the dog home myself, and can't assess dogs behaviour. I can pick up and drive somewhere. Happy to do it.
  14. Glad my sleuthing skills alerted you to this. The ad is a complete lie also. Talks about the "sweet loving dog" "FREE TO GOOD HOME!!! This poor darling red kelpie pup needs a new home! She needs a home that doesn't have intimidating dogs.. Someone that will give her one on one love! She is very sweet when she warms up a little. Very smart, Very alert and timid. She's just not suited to our home and I don't want to scare her anymore with our other 4 dogs.. :[ it will be sad to see her go!!! Someone give her a loving home!!!!" Thats what the ad says.

  17. http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_...roducts_id=5948 too small for a labrador right? Damit
  18. When you post a question, you'll get answers. Not everyone is going to agree with you and yes some people will jump to conclusions based on the limited information in your posts. If someone has stated something that is incorrect, then simply correct them with more information. Being rude and swearing about it is just silly.
  19. I've had the same thing happen when I interrupted a dog fight. Pulled this Labrador off someone's dog, the owner of attacked dog came up and started screaming at me about letting My dog attack someone. I Politely interrupted her and stated that it wasn't my dog, I just happened to stop the fight and was her dog ok? She was very embarrassed. I wasn't mad at her though, very emotional about something happening to her dog so could you really blame her? I'm guessing the guy was probably embarrassed at accusing you and being wrong. Hope the GSD is ok! Maybe stick a spare lead in your pocket when you go walking next?
  20. No agreement with breeder Hard to find facts when everyone thinks that their opinion is 'fact', vets included. I have already made my decision though, not desexing Riddick until I think 12 months or later.
  21. Oh dear GOD!!!!!!! Anyone not watching, they just showed a clip of this guy with his girlfriends little dog in a elevator. He was Kicking this dog. Then calling it back, dog crawls back to him, stand up on his leg tail wagging, and he kicks the dog again. Apparently the dog suffered no broken bones.
